Road trips: 2019
That time of year again to be thinking about flyins!
Picked up a 10X20 'party' tent with velcro walls from Menards plus 11% rebate.
Also four 'screw type' stakes and four tie down straps.
I found the stakes in the pet department.
My present 3 10X10's are a good 5 seasons old and getting a little 'ratty' with two of the tops having tears in them.

Looking forward to seeing you out there, Sam!
My recently widowed 85 yo Dad, who was a Navy flier in the 50's, recently moved to town, and much to my surprise picked up this decent foamie at Hobby Haven. He had it put together in one evening and I radio'd it up the next day
Got him a RF-8 with a Knife-edge download to practice on, so I hope to bring him with me on a trip or two.
He says the absence of rudder pedals is confusing

Toledo show 2019 (cont)
Americana:
Toledo Mudhens. Something to be said for minor league baseball where a mortgage need not be taken out to go to a game.
Fortunately, the city didn't tear down all the buildings in the 70's when 'modern' was the 'way to go'!

GCRCC static show.
Local club's members bring in what they have built over the winter; always held in April.
Hempel's 65% DR-1
Three 400 oz servos per aileron.
ZDZ 500 2 cylinder. I believe owner said only two of these made. I only know of the ZDZ 500 being a 4 cylinder which Brian Omeara has in his 164" P-47.
Hand carved pilot.

June 6-8, Warbirds and classics over Michigan at the CARDS club in Lansing, Michigan.
Miles: 276
This is the first event of a total of 7 coordinated by the Warbird & Classics Alliance (WCA) that will occur this season in the mid west: Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Wisconsin, Minnesota.
66 pilots with a 'ton' of planes.
1000' all grass runway.
My new 10X20' popup from Menards. Glad I bought it. I wanted something that would keep the 'elements' out and the side walls work great: also, everything in the popup is dry when there is a lot of dew the next morning. It weighs 134 pounds but a lot of the weight is in the top and side covers so I only store the frame in the carrying case and put the top and sides into a plastic storage bin. Also, need corkscrew anchors and ratchet type tie downs on all four corners to insure against the 'winds'. Zipper on one end allows easy access. Edges are connected by velcro.

Went to home depot and got a storage case with wheels to store the 10X20" popup top and sides, including the tie down straps and corkscrew anchors.
Bought two more tie downs and anchors for the center two legs.
The total weight is too much to carry so I got the case with wheels.

New plane.
While at Lansing, Michigan's flyin, I purchased a Ziroli F6F hellcat that has been shrunk down to a top flight size of 86" (not sure why the original builder would do that).
It's, virtually, brand new with a new zenoah G-62 with a spring starter and Robart retracts.
Very nicely done with a paint scheme that's different.
Got it downloaded to my transmitter.
Glad I have other planes that I can reference as I forgot how to mix the two flap channels together and get them to go down slowly and, also, get the choke servo to the desired toggle.
Had to reverse a few servos on the transmitter so, after everything was working I re-bound the receiver.
Engine is idling nice at around 1900 and max out at 6700 rpms.
The plane if very light so I'll be able to fly it at small fields versus my 'hog' Ziroli F6F that needs a lot more runway to take off, especially with just a GT-80 for power.
Full size Ziroli that I built several years ago. 96"
