Joern, I noticed that fancy artwork on the tail of your P-47. Is that because of the ban on the Swastika in your country?
I’m interested because the swastika on my Focke Wulf is backwards because my grandfather (now deceased) who escaped Hitler’s Germany prior to the war was always quite upset by that symbol on any of my models. So I’ve always looked for that stuff on German planes ever since. A few years ago AMA touched up a photo of a stuka in Model Aviation to remove the swastika, and that set off a debate censorship vs. offensive symbol.

@ paladin
this swastika, we call it 'Hitler Kreuz' (-Cross) is actually really officially banned here in Germany. As I will not join any scale events I thought I better avoid any discussion with who what soever...
We have many (older) peoples here being upset if they see this sign, you will not find it on a Germans model airplane... (except scale competitions?)
okay, I don't care and created something like JW, my initials ;-)
I choose the captuered bird design because it's easy to see - why should I use a camouflage and have problems in flight?
have a nice (flying-)time

Joern, I’ve often looked at that paint scheme for the same reason. Its got camo but yet its got yellow for visibility, Like you said perfect for modeling. How did you cover it? Glass or silkspan and dope maybe?
During the last landing last week I let the sun fool me and flared to soon and tagged a wing tip and shattered the monokote on that wing (at some where around 18 years old it has gotten brittle). I’m tempted to recover it and do the job right, but it’s a perfect fly-in plane as it is.

paladin,
it's cover totally with glass 50g/dm² and 25g/dm² (oz I don't know), I used a one component PU resin, called G4, normally for making wooden boats waterproof. then filler (spraycan for cars) and after sanding painting with a brush. Yellow is two component car coulour, green is just 5 14ml pots Revell. Everything else is Revell black and white, handpainted with masking tape.
For a warplane painting with a brush is ok - I think - my current project TF Sea Fury I will also use glass but it should be spraypainted - I plan to make it a Reno design (Riff Raff?) Engine Saito 100, retract Robart as the Jug.
A broken monokoted wing I would cover with the same material (monokote) again, just try to get the sheeting nice flat again...
regards
Joern
