Both the VQ and the KMP ARF's are in that range. RV Man and I did a comparison building thread on Twins forum.

P-38 lover?......my kind of guy!!!!
You want kits? Hope this helps.
The ones that fit that bill that I know of are Robart at http://www.robart.com/kits/images/index.htm and Yellow aircraft at http://www.yellowaircraft.com/prop/index.htm.
For built up kits that you can build or customize, here are two more.
G&L Hobbies at http://www.glhobbies.com/P38%20LIGHT/1_6P38.htm
or get the VQ as a non covered version at http://www.vqmodelaircraft.com/ It already has foweler flaps, but plastic center pod and is completely a built up plane.
There is another kit at G&P Sales at http://www.rcairplane.net/
Aero Tech in the UK makes a "Quick Build" with much plastic at http://www.atimanufacturing.co.uk/
KMP also has an arf, but mostly composite. Check posts about this bird and comparison at rcwarbirds.
I would also suggest that you go to at www.rcwarbirds.com There is a whole section on just the P-38's.
Good Luck,
Twinman
PS Did I miss one? Yes, Wing Mfg at http://www.wingmfg.com/
opps one more.... http://vicrc.com/P38-Lightning.htm
PPS Currently own two out of five total have owned. Got it bad.......I need a life!!!
Sorry if that is not enough.......is my best shot.

Thanks! This is absolutely awesome! My intent is to build a scale model and perhaps convert to electric for contest, if not gas will we be just fine. I would like to do some pylon racing. I've got a buddy who's flies an F82 electric for pylon racing and it's OFF THE HOOK!

Thanks again,

Scooby Flyer!

Default CBA Kit

In the Fighters section of rcwarbirds there is a photo & a brief description of Tim Johnson's P-38 as follows -

"Tim Johnson from Owatonna Minn. with his great looking P-38. Tim says this is from a CBA kit and weighs 49lbs with a 120" wingspan. Two 3W engines for power. Good looking P-38 Tim!"

Does anyone have any details on this kit - have done an internet search but I can't find anything.

Thanks in advance.

Jason

Wow! I think that's the biggest 38 I've seen yet! That bird is beautiful. If I remember Ziroli has a big bird equivalent in size.

The Zeroli kit is "Only" 114 " and this is 120". Send a PM to STUKA BARRY. He owns one also and knows where to contact the manufacturer. Last I talked to Stuka, he said the manufacturer still has one or two....Drool.

Place still not set for this fly in.
While I would love it in Houston or Corpus, is really too hot and humid in mid summer.

You definately have a point there, it would have to be in the morning hours before it get's blazing hot! Since it takes damn near 2 days to leave the state of Texas from where I live , don't know if I'll be able to attend! Seriously though, it would still be a kick in the butt! Will keep following to see when and where.

Thanks Twinman! I'm starting to narrow in on a few options. I drop Stuka a line to get some info about the big guy. I pretty excited about the 38. It just so happens that I've got a group of guys that are converting the big war birds to electric. I figure that the 38 is an ideal candidate. Plus, if I can find the right bird I might try and pylon race it with the big guys (well have to see about that).

Pylon Race a P-38?? If you look up on the internet Lefty Garner and the "White Lightning" he did just that at Reno....Might want to reinforce the wings!!! Tee Hee.

FYI on the CBA kit. Jeff Q. has one for sale in the warbirds section. Tim Johnson (pic. above) lost his last year. If I remember, he lost the elevator for some reason and it went in at full throttle at about a 45 degree angle. The largest piece left was about 3/4 of the elevator itself. It almost evaporated when it hit the ground. He already has another one ready to go though. I'll see if he has any pics of the new one.

If I recall correctly the first year they did giant scale pylon racing at Madera the P38's and A26's ruled the roost so they changed the rules regarding twins and now they have all but disappeared from from that venue

Hi George, that p-38 fly in would be fantastic!! I've got an Art Johnson 94" ready to go, and a 90% finished Ziroli p-38 with two 3.6 mokis that will be ready sometime this summer. Consider Buds Feild in Council Bluffs Iowa. Its right off I-29 and 1 blk south of Ameristar Casino!!!!!! Grass feild about 100' wide by about 700' long!! Its surrounded by 50 acres of beans or corn, take your pick. I would travel to see that many p-38s!! Lets get a tally of whose interested. I also think you should consider including all multi eng warbirds because you would have 10 times more aircraft show up and I would like to see them ALL!!!!!!!! The weather is ussually pretty nice here.

have had several responses to this on the thread in the twin forum, I think what we need is a host club to pick up the ball and put it together. I have been trying to get my club to do it, but so far they do not want to exclude the singles.

You ough to consider the air force museum in Dayton. Nice runway for bigger planes. Saw a gathering there last year and it was awsome.

Guys/Gals,

I need some assistance as I have been trying to get plans/specs on the 120" CBA P-38! Robart listed the retracks, but when I called them I found they no longer make them and they would not give me any specifications: strut size ect. Spoke to Mitch (downnlock) and he does not have any spec's. I would like to have a copy of the CBA P-38 plans as I bought this partically built one at an estate sale. Also, from the info I read what size engine should I use? Planned on two DLE 50's. My "E" mail is [email protected] and if someone has time to talk to me my number is 360-683-3504. Can't do anything until I get the gear ordered. Thanks for your time and assistance. George
