Anyone else want a DH-2 (WWI-pusher) kit?
I think one of the most distinctive, unique, and fascinating aircraft of WWI was the DH-2 (its the British plane in the dogfight picture below). This was a single seat fighter/reconaissance plane used to fight back the Fokker Scourge of Eindeckers. DeHavilland put the prop in the back of the pilot's nacelle so that he had a clear shot with the machine gun. This type of pusher is so different from other WWI bi-planes due to the nacelle design and the tail being place at the end of the boom/strut structure.
I think we should write to Balsa USA to get them to make a kit of it. This would be the ultimate WWI 1/4 scale kit! Write to Balsa USA at [email protected] if you agree. Perhaps they will kit it if they know others want one.

Guys if you want to scratch build have a look here,
[link]http://www.alanmorgandesigns.co.uk/pages/plans.htm[/link]
Also have a look at the Spad A2

This 1/4 scale model features built up wings, a rotating dummy rotary engine, carbon fibre tail booms, completely hidden r/c gear, a fully detailed cockpit and true to scale control runs. Full details of nacelle moulding, control run pulleys, and strut fittings are shown on the very detailed plan set. Plans are supplied as a set of nine A0 CAD drawings.
C.N.C.rib sets are available if required.

I don't know what is on Balsa USA's list of planes to kit but I did hear that a 1/3 scale Ercoupe is next on the list after the DVII kit! The Ercoupe is going to be a good kit.

Do Arizona do a DH2 yet, or is it still just the DH1? I spoke to them 2 years ago and they said they were going to do one, but maybe they have been sidetracked into other prototypes.
Are there any large scale plans available in the US for the DH2?. The largest available here in Blighty is 1/4, by Alan Morgan, mentioned above, and there is a very nice set available for a smaller ( 63" span ), more accurate version designed by the late Peter Neate, which formed the basis for my 1/3 scale version. If you want to draw your own plans, a good starting point is the excellent Windsock Datafile with scale drawings, which are probably the most accurate available.
Eindekker, the pic you posted is an Fe8 or something, and not the very, very similar DH2. Some brainbox will enlighten us as to its identity very soon no doubt!
Apologies for posting another photo of my DH2, but the novelty of being able to post photos hasn't worn off yet!!
Ian.

Ha ha, long time betwen posts. I have always been keen on the DH1/2 and recently finished a small 1/12 sport scale DH1 model. Some pics below and a blog entry is here:

Still a bit of a newbie at modelling and would like to build a larger DH1 or 2. Does anyone know of a larger semi ARF kit available.

Wow, I had forgotten about this post! The neat part is that last year I finally found a used DH2 for sale! I snapped it up & got it in flying condition late last season. It's a neat airplane to fly. Tons of "character.

I was on the lookout for a DH2 for a couple of years. I spotted this one on RCU and snatched it up. Great flyer with a Quadra 50. I'll have her at the 2010 Ohio dawn Patrol... Bear

There is a .60 size DH-2 I saw on a lazer kit cutter site. I can remember the name of the cutter. I have the plans, I got them from RCM. It's another plan I want to build and fly someday...

DH-2 is one of my 'faves'! When I finish my DH-5 I am building it next using Datafile Publication to generate 1/4 plans. 'CT scale', as mentioned above, would never deliver after 1 year so I got a refund. Maybe they are better, now.

I'm going to start build one real soon. I have the wood parts thet came today from the Lazer cutter. I have Peter Neate Plans, I liked them better than the RCM plans. Not that they are worse , it's just a little smaller.. I'll post some pictures after I start on it....

Even though I don't want one, it would be nice to see at shows. It would be great to see a 1/4 scale dogfight with the Fokker DR1 at a show! [8D]

Eindecker pilot,
I am pretty sure the painting you posted is of an F.E.8 and not the DH 2. I kind of like the FE 8 better as it has a "croissant" nose rather than the "hoagie" nose.
These pushers are certainly cool but how does one balance them without sticking 5 lbs of lead in the nose?
