G'day Peter,
The Tyabb airfield is about 50 k's southeast of Melbourne on the Mornington Peninsular. They hold a warbird airshow annually. The Temora Aviation Museum usually send several aircraft down here. If you go to their web site you can sign up for a free newsletter which is usually a good source for the dates of upcoming events.
If it's the Boomerang you're most interested in, Suzie-Q has her own web site at http://www.boomerang-flight.com/ which has the most comprehensive restoration photo section that I have ever seen. A modeller's dream.

Puma,

I just wondered if you could share with me what you bought in your bulk timber pack and where you got it from?

Also, how true to scale are you going to build? Are you going whole hog with Litho plates, fabric etc, or just tissue, dope and paint?

If you don't mind me asking, what did you pay for the Kittyhawk retract set?

And finally, what would you expect your final boomer model weight to be? Any ideas?

Regards,

James.

Hi,
Well I'm still here looking, haven't done anything else as I'm waiting to get a good picture of the fuselage near the tail wheel to check its shape...

Hey guys,

I didn't realise there were so many modellers on this site from Aus.
Good to see so many from melbourne too.

I would also try and get in touch with noel. Nice bloke.
He built and flew the wingeel? at last years nats, he is a great builder.
I suspect he might have a mould for the bommer, as i think he makes several models, one for comp, one for practice, etc.
He may lay one up at a price??

Merlin,

Do you know if they are flying past any other towns/areas? Or if they are landing anywhere? Would be nice to get some closeup detail shots.

Hi,
If anyone gets near I would appreciate a shot of the fuse near the tail wheel showing the taper of the fuse in that area.

Roger,

I am not sure if this site is amongst your favourites list, but if not then it should be! Fantastic detail shots during a full restoration of a full sized Boomerang. Go to: http://www.boomerang-flight.com

Awesome stuff!!

Jym,
The Spit is based in Temora so will not have to fly far but I don't know where the Boomerang is coming from. Probably Queensland I suspect. As far as I know the only fly by is over the parade down the main street of Temora.

Thanks for the info.

Does anyone know of any other books on the Boomerang apart from the Wirraway-Boomerang-CA15 book. I already have this one. Puma said he had several books on his "subject" but I can't seem to track down any others.

Also, has anyone used the Scale Model Research photo and 3-view pack for the Boomerang? Is it worth getting?

Regards,

Jym.

Flyguy, I also fly at TMAC, the bloke you are referring to is Lionel Weeks. He also has the B17 and is building a B29.

There was a boomerang, Winjeels and Wirrayways at the Caboolture airshow this weekend. The Boomer did a biut of a display but not as impressive as that done by the Yak3.

cheers

Sorry about the lack of replys. Some ******* stole my digital camera a month ago, so no more photo's of the project. My P40 has been taking forever to get going... the undercarriage finally arrived from Custom Retracts in NSW, and I must say SUPERIOR QUALITY indeed. Cost approx $600 and the mains are unreal... however, tailwheel is a little unscale...but I can fix that up. Have been concentrating on getting the flap assembly on wings cut out.

I hope to get started on the Boomer soon, guess I will commence templating the wings up and getting them together. However, I think seafury mike said something about a glass fuse for a boomer?? any way of checking this out pete??

Anyone else got photo's of their Boomer projects?

hi flyguy,
yes both my wife and I are regualr fliers out there. She even has her bronze wings and has her heart set on a T-28. She saw one at Caboolture on Sun and could not shut her up about it hehehe.

We are normally there Sunday late morning to beat the rush, quite often I have my yellow and white Astrohog plus my spitfire.

yeah Lionel's B17 is nice but wish he would stop flying it like an aerobatic plane - can't say the B17 was supposed to do knife edge flight!!

cheers
