Anyone know a source for the silver covering on the Petie II? I can get close with some Ultrakote silver but just close.
I've decided to put dual flap servos on my plane and mount them like the ailerons. I've had problems with slop in the control rods since I got the model and I want to button everything up before I put the DLE 20 on it.

Flew it with the DLE 20cc Gas on it today. Very nice combo. I was using a 15x10 APC Pattern with a Jtec compact wrap around pitts muffler. It was spinning well above 9K on the strafing runs. Lots of fun and definately faster than the Saito 1.00 and APC 14x8 I had on it.

Flew it four more times this weekend with the DLE 20. 10oz tank and I'm flying about 12 minute flights but could fly 15 or so with ease.

Very short video of my DLE 20 in action. My World Models P-51 with a DLE 20. It has a Jtec Wrap Around Pitts muffler and an APC 15x10 prop. About 10lbs.
Scoots along pretty good.

Spinerrow, do you have any good side shots of your P51 showing what it any parts of the motor stick out of the cowl as I've got a H9 Blue nose I'm looking to run on a DLE20 also, and are just wondering how clean I can get the lines overall with that same motor (I understand both models are the same scale - or near enough)

Fantastic, that's exactly what I was hoping to see (or not see in this case), very little of the head etc sticking out through the bottom on the cowl, as even though I'm building the H9 BlueNose ARF, they are the same size, so should come out looking the same - which will tie in nicely with all the (printed) scale detail that the plane has, and that which I'll add to the cowl since the exhaust will blow away from the visible lines meaning I can safely add the extra detail.
Totally stoked!
Now I just got to wait till January and my 40th before I can gain access to it and build the dam thing.

I still fly mine every chance I get, she still amazes me how well it flys. The speed range and stability is amazing, especially when flaps have been dialed in!

Kind of an old thread but I just ordered mine over the weekend...after reading this thread several times over and exhausting the youtube content I can hardly wait. Ha, ha
I have a DLE 20 from a crashed H9 P-47 (on the maiden too) that'll be powering her. Thanks for pics and stuff SpinnerAce.
Is everyone still digging the Petie?!
Oh, one question, I've read the assembly instructions several times and I was wondering, are you really supposed to put epoxy on the hinges? I've never done that in a "build" so I figured I'd ask the question.
Thanks,
Aaron

One thing I hated about the model was the flap setup (and the Toughlon low temp covering). I ended up putting a servo on each flap and that worked much better. I ran mine with a DLE 20 with15x10 and 15x11 props and a JTech compact Pitts Muffler. An 15x11 works better with the standard Jtech Pitts wraparound muffer and the thing hauls ass! I clocked mine on radar coming out of a shallow dive (hopping over the tree line to 5ft off the deck) at 113mph on radar. The mechanical retracts were OK (and I flew off grass) but once I put E-Flight Electrics in there, that was the Nervana setup. I want another one bad but I think I'm going to go for the Giant Scale version and a DLE 35RA next time. With my grass field, the bigger ones have much better ground handling (fewer nose overs from the divots and such in the field). Still I have everything to build the 64.5" version. Decisions, decisions....
You'll have fun with it for sure.
Last video I had made of it before it died: http://youtu.be/P7LoeHmhhew

Wow man sorry to hear about your plane...at least you got to fly the hell out of it.
And I've definitely watched your video a few times...it gets me amped for mine. Ha, ha and I've seen the retracts video too they look sweet.
Thanks for the response!

Just curious...Ive noticed alot of subbmitted pics lately showing the rx to be , well, just sitting there without any protection. Maybe Im just oldschool, but I keep my Rxs rapped in foam, to prevent vibration induced failures, and protect from crash sdamage. Lots and lots of pics I see, there is no protection......strange to me... have I lost it?

Most of the posted pictures in a thread like this are build pics. I'm sure the RX was protected before flight for most people.
How about the epoxy on the hinges? Did I read that right in the manual?

Man my right flap has some play in it...like 1/8-1/4". I should measure but it sure seems like too much.
I was putting control horns on the ailerons and even with pre-drilled holes it was a *****. Ha, ha I hate those things. Glued the stabs on and have aileron servos in...that's about it after putting the flap servo in and messing with it.

Damn man I was afraid of that...but I don't see how two servos will help? I'll have to check it out further I guess. I thought the slop would be there regardless because if I hold the threaded control rod there is still slop.
