It all depends on first your ability and to what degree of scale do you want. It can range from 150-500 hrs depending on how much detail you want. Full cockpit, sliding canopy, hiden pushrods and switches, type of finish etc etc. I think I put some where around 500 hours in to complete mine. I did not keep a stop watch on it, just an educated guess or what we call a SWAG. This is not a ARF or even a BARF (coined by Gordon Banks). They do build into a very nice model of the P-51 Mustang that you can be proud of.

Go back a few pages, I did a build along in this tread. That is my Mustang. I built two, one to pre-paint condition for a customer then mine to finish. I still can not believe my luck in having Lee Archer signing my plane. Just getting to meet all the airmen was such a once in a life time moment for me. To be able to set and listen to their stories told directly from them. Scale Modeling over the years have allowed me to meet so many American heros that I would have not had the chance except through modeling and my experiences through full scale flying as well. As I always tell young people if you want to get high GO FLY!!!! There is nothing like it, being up about 5-6,000 ft above the earth on a sunny day, with your plane trimed out so that you can just fold your arms and watch the scenery past below you. Or doing touch and goes in the hour before sunset with no breeze. Awsome.
This is also why scale modeling is so dear to me. I can own just about any aircraft through modeling and enjoy watching something I created fly. OK off my soap box....LOL

I received my Comp-Arf P-51 today. It sure is big!

So far I have the following items for it;
P-51
Sierra Retracts and struts.
Robart 6 inch wheels
Sierra 6 1/2" spinner
3W 80xi
26 x 12 Mejzlik prop
1' prop shaft extension
New manual 80% complete

What I still need is;
Scale exhaust
Cock-pit and intrument panel
F/G frame for canopy

What would you guys say is the best for each of the items I still need?

Keleo has a scale functioning exhaust. you have to be very patient but its worth it.
Inzpan on the cockpit dash
Aero Accesories has a scale add on kit for this plane.http://aero-accessories.com/P-51Kit/P-51.html

Larry Tudor (one of the reps) is the person doing the manual. If you contact him, he whould be able to set you up with a copy. It is not complete but much better than the one supplied with the kit.

thanks Graham....your tips and inspiration on your P51 with the Alsa Chrome really helped ... especially the flashing off earlier with the hot blow dryer!

Matt,

Simply stunning - they look great together - only one more squadron of the 353rd FG to go know!

What's next on the board?

Best regards

Are those Mustangs painted??? Looks more like Flite Metal... SOOOOOO realistic. Beautiful!!!
Did you use the Alsa Chrome?

Jason, hhhm I do have a Ziroli fiber fuse kicking around I could use for that last squad...you have good point there! haha Hope you have something new in the works...I do have Vailly FW 190 set up to do next ...plans are on the wall, wood is cut....just need some glue!

Benny, yes Alsa (easier on compound curves than flite metal..).....Graham turned me on to that stuff (check out his Mustangs and P-38!)....used a blue base coat with a few variety of lighter blues and blacks on different panels...the Ziroli was a black base coat with a few varieties of blues on different panels...more noticible in sun light...still need to do some more rivets, panel line detail, and stuff...
