In reply to your earlier post that P-51 pilot has a heavy hard plastic parachute & maywest vest, I have one. Put that set aside & if you still want a seatback parachute & maywest vest go to cotswold collectibles website & do a search for them . They have lots of choices for many characters from ww2 to pick from.

RE: FiberClassics P-51 now Comp-ARF P-51
those birds and pilots are looking good!
I had trouble with my Seirra tail wheel also...it bent due too a rough landing strip. I replaced it with music wire which is way stronger than what was supplied and now all is good. Make sure the collar lock is there too so it only has the spring play to work against and not more, and also that there is a flat for all screw points to lock into, and thread lock everything! Sounds like the collar lock is missing maybe???
I also slipped a rubber sleeve over top of the spring to make it look more authentic, which I then painted, and it still had spring to it, but a bit less so it works better now actually. Was too springy for me before.

Alanjets, Love that paint scheme. I soldered a copper tube to the front hole of carb and ran tubing inside fuel cel area to get 0% pressure, helped with carb adjustment. Not my idea, found in one of sites.
Rick,
thanks for the tip, that will take lots of weight off that pilot.

Your welcome about the pilot weight problem. I am also wanting to know did you try the web site that I told youabout to find a parachute, seatback or backpack type to use. I was able to get one from parted out william bowman character. It fits very well and looks good.

Rick,
I love the William Bowman figure, but does he have a plastic parachute also? I am concerned the little fella is not the proper scale, if he wasn't sitting on his parachute, he could barely look out the window. I thought about stuffing his clothes with foam and use the head off one of the correct scale, (but heavy) figures I have collected over the years....don't know what to do.

Great info on the pilot
love the inflight picture Alanjets.
Did some more tonight. I have masked off all the roundels, vertical fin markings and the Sqn codes on the fuselage.
Sprayed the grey for the bottom. After this sets up in a few days I will begin the two top colours. I will complete the fuselage first before moving to the wings.

Taped the bottom off with 3M foam tape. Should give me a nice feathered edge.
I plan on applying the grey tonight, and the green tomorrow.

I have the grey colour masked off. Just waiting for the garage to heat up, then I will paint the green.
After it sets up, I will remove the masks to reveal the fuselage. All marking have been done previously, so it will pretty much be done. There will no doubt be a few areas to touch up.
More pics to follow

Green paint is on
Will take the mask off in about an hour, after the paint has a chance to set up.
I am getting excited, its like unwrapping a Christmas present.
Will post some pictures of the unwrapped P-51 Fuselage. [8D]

The maple leaf will be added later. I was going to do it ahead of time but decided it can be added later.
In a few days I will take either my steal wool "0000" grade or an old brilo pad to smooth out any lines and rough areas.

my mate has had a few more flights on his. Still ironing out some vibration bugs with the scale exhaust system. Here is a link to some quick flybys (after the spitfire). Taken in my iphone so sorry for no zoom.
