Thanks, that's an interesting site. Too bad it's only the exhaust stack and not the whole exhaust kit. You have to buy the $90 kit from CARF so you can throw away two plastic exhaust stacks and replace them with the better looking resin ones for $49. $140 bucks for half of better looking exhaust kit. :-)

Say, anyone with Keleo Creations exhaust Kit want to sell me there old CARF ones cheap, LOL??? I can turn around and add the resin ones to it as a more sane approach... :-)

If interested I took my Sony nex camera to the wright Patterson afb museum. I Only kept the zoom lens on and focused on just little details you generally can't find in books and the internet easily. Kept the flash on too so the details would pop out. There are two mustangs there. One of the very first A model types with the diamond tread tires and original engine I stall. The the later D model is there and focused on drop tanks and the real nose cone profile - it's seems much stubbier than the typical RC p51 prop like the Carf prop. Of course you'll have to scroll through to find each plane. A took hundreds overall so enjoy if you like detail.

Hi Mike- hope you received my PM. My "sent" box never shows sent messages??

Latest at Toledo, No prises this year; oh well, it was never my intention to build a trailer queen with this one.

Still need to balance and test run, will post pics when in the air.

Peter.

Question to anyone who has flow there mustang. I feel like there is too much slop in the elevator. I thought it was the linkage, but I think its the rod that runs through with the phenolic hinge holes being a little large?? We already have a problem with fitting a full size servo on each side, leary of flutter and overpowering the servos. Anyone else concerned? Have a fix?

Thanks

Hi Dr.,

I have Robart hinges with pockets on the surfaces.
Can you sleeve the holes with carbon or brass tube?
Perhaps the next size up rod and fashion the end like a drill bit (flatten then sharpen the sides) then spin it to ease it through?

Balancing mine now, took 2.8 Lbs. in the nose

P.

I think the answer was no last time it was asked somewhere but here it goes again in case there's a new kid on the block, does anyone make a 1:4.4 scale cockpit for the CARF Mustang that is prepainted and mostly assembled like the 1/5 scale http://www.iflytailies.com/ one? I haven't seen a CARF in person with one installed but the pics I see somehow make the cockpit and pilot figure seem a tad undersized.

With the tallies cockpit, do the legs general fit or are they usually removed?

Also, these two pilot figures look they should both work. What is the 'normal' way to secure them in their seat yet be removable? Velcro on their butt? Actual working 'seat belt'? No doubt multiple ways but I've always just glued them in before but not this time.

Lucky, the 1/5 cockpit fits fine. This is it. I do think the 1/5 pilot is a little anemic, but the 1/4 scale would probably look too big…. :-(

Tying up loose ends. Peter, you needed three pounds in the nose, I need three pounds in the tail..LOL. All the switches and fueling/air/charging ports are hidden. air gauge is in the dash as an instrument. Magnetic switch goes right through the fuse, too cool. I thought about putting the fuel vent inside the big cutout, but love the ones from dream works, and you can easily close it off.

After seeing the pics, I don't think a 1/4 scale guy would look too big at only a quarter inch taller and hopefully wider. They are wire frame pilots so we should be able to shape a slightly larger pilot in? I would think so anyway from just comparing product descriptions. Taller pilot would also let you slide the seat back so it's not covering up that right side panel instrumentation?

On a different note, where did you guys get your cockpit railing from and install it? I see the pictures and the nice drawing Peter did but just a little more detail on how you actually attached the canopy to the rails and install the rails into the airframe. did you use 4-40 ball links or something like that through the canopy railing? Just a tad more details needed before I feel comfortable ordering stuff for that.

dynamic balsa sells the rails. I just sat down and started winging a lot of it. Very happy with the end result, but a PIA to do. When my plane is done, I'm gonna open another thread and download all the pics at once. I've photo documented most of the build.

clever air gauge spot, I like it. so that's the magnetic switch solution for the starter? slap the red thing on the side, good to start, pull it off after start and no juice to the ESC/STARTER?
