Ziroli A-D1 Skyraider
I have just gotten this plane at a swapmeet It is just the airframe. I am looking for informationon C\G servos, motor, retracts, and any other information you guys would be willing to share.

Here are a few pics from the plan. It looks like 5 1/4 to 5 5/8 with gear down. Mines almost done and I'll be balancing soon. I found some other info...
"I balanced mine with the gear down and set the cg about 3/4 of the way back in the cg range. first flight was effortless and it was a perfect spot for the cg.i didnt have to change it at all.
his designs are well proven and i would do as he recomends" from a thread on another site.

Looks and flies awesome. You must be very proud of your work. My next build will be one of these, but probably something closer to 1.6m wingspan, but it wont look anything near as good as yours.

When I get home from work I’ll measure the cowl for you. I've seen a few builds where they made the cowl diameter larger to accommodate a multi cylinder engine. I think they were on the RCSB site

Had a mishap a while ago with my 100" Ziroli Skyraider.
Came a little too hot on the landing, had a small (really small18" the most in height) bounce and upon contacting the runway once ore with the mains, one of them gave way breaking the lead edge and ungluing the two main ribs in which the retract assembly was mounted.
I always thought that the design of the landing gear mount on this model was not strong enough. Having a full spar in which the partial ribs are glued to without the pass through thru the rest of the rib to the trail edge, is not solid enough. Also a 1/8" plywood rib to mount the retracts on a 30 - 35# model is calling for perfect landings or frequent repairs.
I decided to do some beefing up of the A1's center wing lead edge and ribs in the area around the retracts. I made the two retract ribs out of 5/16" aviation plywood and double them with the original 1/8" rib. Also doubled with 1/8" plywood the balsa ribs on each side of the retract ribs. Did the same on the other retract which had no damage in the bounce.
Also installed two hardwood stringers tying the four ribs together for added strength.
Added triangle stock to tie ribs to main spar and lead edge pinned with 1/8" wood dowels. Not much can be done to strengthen the lead edge due to retract location.
After cleaning the damage, this are the areas that needed reconstruction. The right sisde was opened to beef up the area so what happened on the left area does not happen again.

Both sides repaired. Also triangular stock was epoxied to main wing spar/rib joint pinned with hardwood dowels.

Adding center pylon with releasable mechanism. It will carry an additional napalm tank or an external fuel tank. Have not finished yet. Pending installing release mechanism and painting.
