Skyshark Hawker Tempest questions
G'day everyone
I am thinking of building the Skyshark Hawker Tempest. Has anyone built one yet. If so, do you have any comments (pro's and cons) which will be helpful with the build. Also can anybody with a good knowledge of RAF Squadrons during WWII tell me if there were Polish Squadrons which flew Tempests. If there were, can you supply info. I want to if possible do an authentic Polish paint scheme.
Thanks in advance
Regards
Toz

RE: Skyshark Hawker Tempest questionns
Toz,
I built one about five years ago and have since sold it to a buddy of mine. This is a great flying airplane. I used spring air retracts and a Magnum .80 Fourstroke for power. I believe it weighed six and a half pounds. CG the tempest a 1/4 inch forward than the plans say. This calms down the elevator sensitivity (famous Hawker trait). Also, make sure you make the landing longer (taller) than the plans shows IF YOU FLY OFF OF GRASS. This will help the nosing over problem. The full scale Tempest gear shortened it self as it retracted into the wing. If you need to make the wheel wells longer do it. Other than that build it as is and send pics!

You will need to keep the tail as light as possible because the plane will require tons of lead in the nose to balance. You might want to check out this thread: [link=http://www.rcscalebuilder.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=616&PN=2]Skyshark Tempest[/link]

Hey there. No, I did not sell my D9 on the weekend. I will put it up on the major online auction site.
Brian Buss, who also flies at Marymoor, is currently building the Skyshark Tempest. You can ask him about it when you see him at the field.

Good Stuff!!!
Great info. I still need the info from anybody with a good knowledge of RAF Squadrons during WWII. Were there any Polish Squadrons which flew Tempests. I need some authentic Polish paint schemes.

RE: Skyshark Hawker Tempest questions
Toz,
No, no Polish Squadrons flew Tempests. There were Polish pilots flying Tempests in other Squadrons. But I have never seen a photo of a Tempest with Polish markings or badges.

RE: Skyshark Hawker Tempest questions
Thanks Christer. Great information. I should be able to find something suitable for my Tempest. If not Polish, then I will try to find an Australian tempest.
Thanks again
