yeah can imagine it would do

mine is not so much expensive as time related. Lots of little jobs to complete.

Need to get either a rebuild kit for the tiggy caby or a new carby! Can not for the life of me tune it, it wont sit nicely at idle, it comes down to a a few 100 over idle for a few secs then drops to idle which I dont understand and unsure really if it is caby related or igntion?

It has a new igntion. It is not the throttle servo as I have watched that with the cowl off.

Hope you get the 47 out and keep the greasy side down!!

my money is on the carby back a coupla of years the old Z=38was doing a similar act, and I ended up stripping the carb down blew it out with hi pressure air ans then checked the 2 littile holes in the nrck with a wire and made sure they were clear reassembled it with a new hit, checked the in let needle for hight , and had no more trouble.
Ihave been told that an air leak can cause the same simtum, assuming we are talking about a gasser.

yes mate it is a petrol engine, aka "gasser"

I blew it out the other day but will also poke a wire down those jets. How do you go about check the inlet needle/float for height?

Will get a new diaphram and fir that so hopefully all of that will cure it.

cheers

Pete

you bend the little tabs on the pump lever I got a little tool from the place I/we get our kitts from it kinda look like a W the outer points rest on the body of the carb and the center point is to just touch the float lever. also on some models carb's a straight edge will work. don't remember if tool is for all carb's or just certen models I think you can Google walbro service manual, in the one I printed years back I have page 6, 18, 26 tabbed

Ps make sure the main needle is not sticking

ok will check that, cheers

Pic of the CUB, you can see the damage.

Pic of the mustang chin inlet area, I have epozied the chin layup to the bottom cowl. Needs a little CF soft tape to strengthen in. Bit of a trim then and is ready to paint.

At least that will be another model ready to fly again.

gents,
you will have heard about our lovely wildlife in the land downunder. This little one was having a bit of a visit in my shed last night, maybe he was escaping to the shed from his nagging wife?

Consequently not a lot of repairs got done last night. Will call the council today to see if they can remove the damn thing.

cheers

ahhh we are not allowed guns here so cant do that. besides it's only a diamond python,. harmless unless you make them angry. they would rahter hide then confront you.

Will ring some animal welfare groups today to see if I can them to come and get it. It's a native animal after all and they do a good job of catching rats and mice etc. though I do wish it would eat the damn bush turkey that is digging holes in the back yard - cheeky damn thing!!

well the joe blake, that is snake to you septics seems to have vanished, either that or it is hiding behind my cuboards ...

More work done on the P51, cowl inlet layup is nicely attached to the bottom cowl and I have primed the part ready for some top coat paint to be applied.

Trying to figure out what the actual colour is proving problematic. Seems the Blue Nosed *******s of Bodney used a few different shades of blue.

Think I will take the spinner over to a paint place I know of and see if they can can match it. 1 litre is way overkill. Not sure they would do a half litre of it. will see.

Other alternative is to try and find the FS colur and I did find some references to it but I am concerned it will be different to the rest of the nose and will stand out like the proverbial!

I am hoping to test fly the P51 on Sunday as Gratton field has a Warbirds day on.

Vampire. Thieves at HK gave me a $20 credit for missing inlet ducts, seriously how pathetic.

Failed retract is in the post so hopefully it will be here by about Wed this week.

Be nice to get that thing completed and flying.

Then have the repairs to the cub to contend with. Damn P47 is pushed back yet again grrrrrr

Took the Tiggy out on Sunday, first flight was ok but engine running very rich. Landed and pulled cowl off, retuned then off again and engine seems quite nice now. Got 4 more flights in. I swapped back to using Castrol 2T mineral oil instead of the Castrol TTS synthetic racing oil and the MVVS 30 seems happier on the 2T. Go figure!

Pics to keep Bob happy

I needed that well I have got some inspection done on the corsair and it don't look good, stripping all covering and finding a lot of little cracks, so will have to pull some sheeting to see what the blkd's look like, I know the last one in the fuse tail is broke, so if it does not look like it can be repaired to be safe it will go in the dumpster. Don't remember if I told you a bout my weeks, did a dumb thing with my weeks bipe, added to much power just before lift off and it torque rolled in to the ground glad I was using plastic bolts as it came apart .some damage so that is more winter work to look at so most likely will not get to build my new cubby

That enough bad news so

hmmm is the corsair glass covered or just film? Should be easy enough to fix if you can get inside, repair that damgage then a layer of 3/4 oz cloth. Good as new alsmost.

Bugger on the bipe, that sucks. I feel your pain, I'm sick of reparing models, want to get on with the 47 and get it done then build new wing for seafury.

Ok guys, the weeks report ....

Out for a fly yesterday with just the tiger moth. good day of flying and lots of yakking as you do. Some photos of the tiger ...

Got the P51D ready to fly again, cowl painted, retracts cycled, engine run. It is pulling like a horse!

They should keep Bob happy for a month hehe

Also have done some work on the P47, sanding around the canopy. Will squirt some primer then redo a few rivets. Then onto working on wing retract rails.

I'm back from Europe from visiting my dad. Trying to get over my jet lag. The weather here turned to $#!+ so I started building the upper wing to my Camel F1. It's really nice to see you Pete having fun with the Models again.

PS: I don't think those pictures are enough for Bob.

I mate nice report and great photos, weather hear is turning cold 5deg c for low's and lots of wind 10 to 20 and gust to 40 so no flying and the weather guys are saying will last another week and a bit of a warm up maybe highs of 30 c for the coming week.

the corsair was film covered and it is a PITA to get off, so far most of the little cracks were just in the sheeting so ca has most of them firm up got the #2 blkd repaired, so all that is left on the front of the fuse is replacing the sheeting I pulled but that will have to wait till I get the tail end figured out as the horizontal stab was brook lose, so will have to figure out how to get a good joint as it does not look like I can get all of the old epoxy material out, and like I said it will have to be a good solid joint or the bird will go in the dumpester, and still have not been able to get started on the WEEKs repair.

cheers Bob T

Ps have not heard from old tom in a while when my computer took a dump I lost his addy and few others, hope he jumps in hear to let us know he is on the right side of the grass

he has been off scoffing that good Hungarian vino again

Good to be in the old country no doubt?

did some more on the 47 today, primed where I had repaired the hanger rash, red-did some rivets in that area and got the wing up on the bench. Now to figure out where I left it ...

Bob,
dont be too quick to throw that bird in the bin, Remove some of the sheeting where the stag goes through and you can most likey dribbe some epoxy in there to get a good joint as well as a little stiffening up as my be needed.

Don't envy you with your winters, seriously I could not survive there. I got sick enough last winter here and ours are very mild compared to one of yours. Only good thing is that you get losts of building in.

I am actually starting to enjoy the planes again and spending time happily pottering in the shed - when there are no damn snakes lurking that is

Life is starting to get better for me but has been a bloody hard year. As my ex used to say "Smith you have a rubber ars e , you keep bouncing back up" She was right on that point.

Now apprantly Hobby King have delivered something today . . . turns out the idiots sent a whole new Vampire instead of the ducts and wing retract! What the!

So a bit of a win!

cheers

talk about overkill!!

No going to sell it to a mate of mine who wants one, will do a deal with him on it.

Now I will simply purchase a set of retracts for it and get mine in the air.

Well on the Corsair pulled all the plastic off the fuse what cracks were in the sheeting are done got a good laminated splice on both sides of #2 blkd so front is done for now, pulled some sheeting at the stab and found the stab parted with the platform so it turns out an easy fix, now the question is how to separate the ell's and rudder with out destroying them as I used Robart hinge pins and they are solid, may just cut them and try to drill them out.

Suggestions hear would help ! weather is still the pitts, wind still 10 to 20 and no let up in sight \, so that's the latest form fly over land.

You can cut the hinges off flush then take a bras tube the right size and cut some teeth in one end and chuck the tube in a hand drilland drill out the stub. I'll get a picture of my brass tube I used on my Extra in the morning. Hold off on yours till I can get a picture.

I then just plugged the hole with balsa and re drilled for new hinges in the same spot. The glue hardenes the thin layer of balsa that's left and it worked well on and aerobatic plane that has a lot more pressure on it then the warbird.

You could use a cheap soldering iron to melt them out also:

or an expensive one too ...

Good job Bob! See told you it would not be so bad. Both ideas to remove the hinge point will work. You can also insert a Robart hinge pocket in the enlarged hole or do as I do which is to epoxy brass tube into the balsa. Roghen it up on the outside first with some 80 grit.

cheers
