spring clips?

Sorry Pete. I messed up. It's been a while since I payed attention to the retract lines.

It was these thread on keepers. They do hold the lines tight.

Pete

That's what I call a farrel also I gave up on the plastic Tee's and,, fittings and went to all brass, I also use the air tool oil as Tom has suggested.

With our lousy weather still have not got out to fly as yet [:@]

yes I am starting to use the brass ones too. Where are you getting yours from?

Might investigate air tool oil, assume a couple of drops just after the filler and it will find it's way throughout?

Rebalanced the cG on the Seafury, with gear up it is nearly 1/2" rearward compared to gear down. Will add the lead over the weekend then it will; be ready to fly again.

Yup 2 drops is plenty and I put in in the line going to the control valve as it spreads nicely

mustang work: retracts seem to be now ok, replumbed them to how they should be for a UP3

Soak testing them now

no wonder engine would not run at full rpm, pulled the tank and it had a big split down one side!! Bloody hell! [:-]

so now need a new Dubro 24 oz tank.

no progress. still trying to figure out best way to fix the retract mount problem. Not sure how to tackle it to be honest. Might have to get a mate of mine involved as I'm stumped and it has put me off completing this bird.

Hay Pete

why not go with what you have ? as I kinda followed your lead on the mounts and except for hitting a gofer hole mine have been fine and the outher problems have been the pilot as I have not been able to greese it and tend to drop it the last half foot, by the way our field is grass and aproch north to south is over some 30" pines. mine wieghs in at 30 + pounds

no mate the mount is far too weak, will have to grind it all out with a dremel then splice something in there. Just not sure what yet. Was thinking 1/2" marine ply but unsure at this stage how to do it.

Inspriation will strike me! Or a ligtning bolt [:-]

I know yours is different since mine is in the stock location. I think i have 4 plys glued together. It's close to half an inch thick. All I remember is I over did it on purpose. LOL. I'm pretty sure the screws will pull out or the gear will bend before the wood breaks.

It was kind of funn going back through the old pictures. I'm starting to get the itch to fly it again.

thanks mate, my problem is that I made the opening for the cyclinder far too big due tothe angles the retract goes on in the scale location. It left the mount structure far too weak. Then compounding this when I had to get angles right I ground down on the top of the mount and further weakened it. angles are pretty close now but nothing of substance left.

I'll get some cardboard in there to trace outlines etc then grind it all away and start from scratch. ******* of a job!! [:@]

Went out to Grotton field yesterday for warbirds. Was raining when I got up so texted my mate Ron to see if he was still going, he said he was so I headed out, it is about 1 1/2 drive. Was stil raining when I got there so we sat about under the sheds for about 2 hours drinking coffee and gas bagging as we do

Finally cleared up so unloaded the Seafury and had a fly. New engine, GT80 is running very sweet, I am not running it on 98 octante ULP, and 40:1 mineral based oil. Richened the mixture a couple of clicks as well. One of the leg gear doors ripped off in flight but apart from the the seafury is performing very well. Flew it for about 10mins then in for a nice landing.

Spent 45 mins way out in the cow paddock amongst waist high grass looking for the gear door. eventually somebody came over and said they had found it half hour earlier!! [X(]

thanks guys!

anyway had a 2nd flight and threw it about a bit. With the 21x12 it really unloads to a nice note coming down hill and is very fast. Good vertical now too. So very happy.

On to the 47!

some work on the cowl tonight. Glued in the guide tubes for the cowl mounts and then glassed them for a bit more strength. another job done.

Might tackle the antenna tomorrow.

Leave the retract rail issue for last

Tom,
do you still have those profiles for the ribs that the gear rails slot into?

I need to make some new ones probab ly out of half inch marine ply. I will shape these to correct angle then epoxy in place beside existing ribs. Not sure if I kept the cut out waste sheet or not. I normally do.

cheers
Peter

I used spare ribs that a friend gave me. Aren't they on the plans? I'll see if I could find my plans. They are tucked away in a deep cavern. If you still have your plans you can scan them on a printer and use it as a template. If not I'll email you one you can print out.

Hi Pete, i picked up a one of Erny's M.D. Sea Fury's that had been started and the previous owner had lost interest.
Is your Sea Fury one of Erny's?
I am at the moment fiddling with a 3W85 and wrap around silencer trying to find the best position. On my other big gasser's i have put the cylinder down and the wrap around exhausts also poking out down and behind.
What sought of set up for the engine and exhaust have you done?
Could you show a pic. if possible.
I have been thinking of putting the cylinder on the side and modify the exhaust to come out in the correct position on the side.It would take a bit of mucking about with the exhaust stingers.
What does yours weigh? with the GT 80 in?
Thanks Dave.
