Pete,

Been reading your thread for quite some time. Good ol' Bob has been asking for some of us Minnesotans to help prod you along. Here is a pic or two of my build. I love your build and if I would have read about it earlier I would have incorporated some of your mods. My flying buddy across the street has done alot of the same mods you have and possibly a few more. Get er done it is a great build you have there and no two ways about it you'll love her in the air.

Cheers,
Z

Bob,
sound like you will have a nice family time and well done on getting the Corsair repairs sorted out.

I went out flying Sunday, took the old Astrohog to shoot touch and goes and the little Pica Spitfire. Nice flights and came home about 11 qas it was too hot and humid, storms lurking so thought best to get home and get the Disco under cover.

Did some work on the dummy antenna installation. Inserted a piece of 4-40 rod the protudes about 2 inches. Then got out the old plans and made up a block to suit the inside contour next to former 6C.

Cut it out to suit from a block of balsa and knotched where the stringers go using the scroll saw. I marked where the hold needs to be and then split it in half. Recessed a couple of rare earth magnets and slotted the other part to take the shaft.

Glued it back together and it works quite well. Will hold the antenna in place nicely.

Now to get the block in place is tricky as I cant get my hand in there but I can feel a length of 4-40 threaded rod inserted through the hold where the antenna will sit.

So will put a 4-40 captive nut in the hold on the block. Insert the threaded rod from the top. Put a couple of blobs of 30min epozy on the block then thread it onto the threaded rod using the captive not on the bottom.

I can then pull the block up into postion. I will then use a shaped lock on the top with another nut screwed down firm to hold it in place while the epoxy cures.

As I'm away all this week with work it will have to wait till the weekend.

Then to put some finishing resin over the antanna mast and sand/paint etc.

Final cowl fitting is next.

Then painting . . . .

Sorry Bob did not take a photo for you.

cheers
Peter

Bob, it does hey!

Z yeah mate I'm plodding along with it. Away on site quite a lot during the weeks so that limits my time. At present we are are in a very hot and humid summer, loads of huge storms too. She is like a sauna so not pleasant to get in and work.

Maybe I should get in there and lose some of this lard while I'm at it hehe

Will do some more Sat morning though heading down the coast to have lunch with my Mum, roast pork yum!

That bird of yours looks nice mate. As for the mods debatable as to their worth as they delayed this build considerably. Anyway I did enjoy nutting them out them implmenting the changes.

cheers

No Worries Oz,

Thanks for the compliment on the P-47. I haven't been in the hobby as long as others but my neighbor has done a great job of helping me on the way. CRJDriver got me started and has got me to a point to where I can get a plane built and flying. There was a lot of consulting and his efforts in the final product on his part. Pretty lucky to have a resource like that close by to answer any questions.

I also have a Top Flight corsair I unwittingly acquired "third hand" from the deceased NCIS who I see you've crossed swords with in the past.... that I can't seem to get motivated to just finish the bloody thing off. A nice big Bonfire was one option I considered after a spirit or two. But it is a fair air frame that should be finished. So I plod along, one step forward and two steps back. Finding every excuse to not put effort into it. Besides Bob T. needs someone to keep that fine thread moving along. I know it is not if but when you will finish the P-47. Besides there is a good value in the free commentary this building thread provides. A chuckle or two I have valued along the way.

Bob,

It is the Top Flight 1/5. It is not a terrible build per say. He just went a little off of the reservation on some things. What I'm trying to get past right now is he planked the fuselage and there are problems here and there with that. So shaping and sanding it down nice has been a problem. I've had to remove planking because it wasn't bound together and redo that. The list of piddly things goes on and on. So a correction here or there is what I'm trying to get through before continuing. Hence why no posts in your thread. I really haven't made progress per say. Just trying to get it right to move on.

G'day CJ,
good work there m,ate, looks very nice! You should be proud of it.

Z, yes mate I did have quite a few rund ins with him, think he may have been lonely or something but seemed to like confrontation! PITA but as Bob said may he RIP, we are all modellers so must be good in all of us!

Sounds like you have quite a bit of rework to do on it. Must be a bit weird working on his model, well now yours?

Not a lot happening with me, was out at site all of last week, only back Friday afternoon and tired from it. Lots of family stuff over the weekend and driving to different events.

Have decided to build the other vampire I have and not sell it.

47 wise I did a trial fit of the mounting block for the dummy antenna, my method will work ok. Just need to open up the slots for the stringers a little and add a bit of stick or something so I can use that to orientate it correctly. Might be able to get that epoxied in place tonight. Need to put a coat of finishing resin over the antenna mast.

Then onto getting the cowl mounts just right.

Those are the last jobs before painting it.

Merry Christmas too All!!

cheers
me

yeah I coinded that phrase and quite like it too.

Man you have a good fleet ready to go now stop breaking them. Do wish the Drgon lady was available again, they are a really good sport model, wack a G-23/6 in the nose and you have aq very nice model that is also good to transition into warbirds.

My Discovery needs new tyres but is only getting a couple of older ones on the rears with life left in them. I have those tyres on previously and 2 still have about 6 to 12 months of life in them. Probably need shockies at some stage too.

Vehicles are like women, always something that needs spending on them!!

Today we mourn our dead and loss of innocence.

I pray our weak willed leaders make the hard decisions and take action before more needless blood is lost in the name of appeasing those who would do us harm. 3 dead, 2 innocment Australians and 1 lunatic who we graciously took in as a refugee.

RIP the 2 Australians lost at 2AM this morning. May the filthy gunman forever burn in hell.

Oz,

Sorry to see the outcome today in Sydney. Unfortunately I don't think anyone will grow a set anytime soon to remedy that virus in any of our countries. Don't really know where it ends. Pitiful actually.

On a lighter note I was thinking women are like airplanes. You need more than one model in the hanger because they are all fun to fly but each one flies differently. But alas I'm thinking back to the days when I wasn't married. I suspect wifey would take exception to my pondering.

I agree mate they are like a cancer and we will need to cut it out sooner rather then later however not sure we will survive the operation.

I would suggest wifey would be most displeased. In my case I am single and lots of models is rather appealing! A lot of fun too and when one gets demanding it is time for NEXT!

yes mate you are 100% correct. We had 8 years of labor and the greens (very left wing) before the current lot got in and during that 8 years the illegal queue jumpers flooded in.

No one wants to takle the problem. Guess it will take a mass casulaty event here to make them wake up. But even after what happened with you with 911 it has gotten worse. I just do not understand why they let these people in knowing full well they do not assimilate.

47 progress. I did epoxy the antenna block in what I though was correct spot but it did not work correctly so had to carefully remove it. I'll do a lot more dry runs and try again. Think I rushed it as I was keen to get that over with.

We have more huge storms predicted for tomorrow so luckily all my meetings are in the morning and the moment the weather radar shows anything nasty I'll be out of here to rescue the car.

Off to the dentist this afternoon
Maybe I won't be such a cranky Project Manager after my tooth is fixed LOL

well the telly says your people took care of the problem, it's just to bad about the two innocent captives.

We are finally getting some snow so we will have a white Christmas, I think it's what left of the first of big storms that hit our left coast last week, my bro tell me they are getting a series of storms. So much for global warming

Yeah the TRG boys got him, just deserts but not before he took out too innocent hostages.

like usual "that" camel crowd are making themselves out to be the victims pushed forward by the rapid green/left morons. Makes me sick, so insulting.

I'd love a white christmas here, mind you if we get huge storms we may get a white hail christmas.

So bloody hot and humid at the moment. Yuk

Looks what is under my tree!
