I just caught up on everything. Not been getting my notifications. RCU seems slow.
Been busy building my Sukhoi. Still waiting on Wing Tube sockets or the Camel. Got a 9 to 5 starting in January so the building is going to slow down for me.
Pete, get some pictures of your antenna mount. I'm having a hard time visualizing what you're doing.
CRJDrivers plane is awesome. I'll have to get up to Owatonna some day and fly with those guys. They have some really nice planes there. My 47 would be just average there.

Hi Pete.
Couldn't see you dealing with those useless buggers at Xtreme. They took 9 weeks to get me some servos this time last year. You should've heard some of the BS excuses they tried on me.

not to mention their prices, I dont like paying retail for anything
problem these days is no one wants to keep stock, I know I don't. Sales are far too slow these days.
Nice model, fly well? Twins worry me, drop an engine and ....
I'm looking forward to getting the F4U in the air. Simple and easy model.

I finally did the socket head screw driver extension only to find out I don't have the #8 x 1" socket head self tapping screws anymore and dubro don't seem to have them listed either
Not sure what I will use now.

You can use brass inserts that are threaded on both sides. It is tube like, machine screw on the inside and a coarse thread on the outside. You thread them into the wood like a machine screw. I forget where I got mine from... I think the largest self taping screw I saw was a #6. I'll check our LHS in the next couple of days to see if they have it. If they Do I'll get them and send them to you. Just hold off till I can check.

thanks guys.
I found some #6 x 3/4 which were ok in length and yes got the cowl fitted but the metal was so poor that they stripped out very easily.
Got 2 out ok but the others I had to cut out using the dremel and a burr bit. No damage thank goodness but I am now re-evaluating how I am going to mount this blasted cowl.
I'm resigned to the fact I will have screws on the outside.
Perhaps a 3/4 piece of hardwood epoxied in where the cowl mounting blocks would go but have it shaped on an angle like the mounting blocks.
Then a button top screw in from the outside into the wood.
Bah thought I was close.

The only thing about the screw/s they seam to vib loose, so I have cone to the plastic inserts for each size and rubber backed croned washers I went with MC master carr for a supplier only thing you have to buy a box of 100, but the way I go through hardware thar is not a big deal

Not finished yet but the hard bits are done. Just to line it all up them do pilot holes on the cowl flaps etc.

It's the morning of Christmas Eve here in Indiana. That means it's Christmas Eve on the other side of the world.
It's been a long time since I started building my 47. You on this thread were my first internet friends and are still my friends. I must be getting older cause I'm starting to reflect back on all the things I learned from here. It's made me a better builder.
More then that I appreciate your friendships. Thanks for being great people.

sorry mate had a busy Christmas and only just on here now. I agree with all you have said and can honestly say during all my difficulties in life over last few years the friends on here have really helped to keep me moving on and to rebuild my life.
So here is a glass raised to all of you.

Santa was good to you. That Corsair looks fantastic. Wifey kept asking me what I wanted for a gift. I told her I have everything I needed. She went and got me a gift certificate to Tower Hobbies she knows I'll use it... so good on her. Now to some progress. Have finally completed the cowl mounts and quite pleased with it. Cowl is rock solid.
Now to finish the annoying dummy antenna mount. That is last job before painting.
Humidity here is horrible, like a thick damp blanket all over you so no painting for a bit. Not even with slow thinners.
Might have to build/assemble the second Vampire

Very productive day. P47 is ready to paint. Weather permitting of course. Humidity is way too high to even think about it yet.
So contenting myself with Vampire #2 build/assembly.
