Pete I will definitely keep you posted on the Corsair. It will be a while yet, Richard is still finishing the molds. To do a full composite Corsair takes 38 individual molds!!! Once that is done we will both get one flying each and get some flying in and confirm the design is good before I sell any. In the mean time I will be doing some P-47 kits to sell. Don't know if you have followed Richard & Patsy's new facebook page - "RAP Fun Factory". They started this to post their modelling stuff and not load up the Bundy club page with too much of their own stuff.

Cheers!
Mick,
ok I had heard differently, no worries. I prefer my version as it sounds like something Aaron would do hehe.

Will be good to see the Corsair, I was following some posts Richard put up on FB a few weeks back. No Have not seen that page, I'll go in and have a look shortly.

Mind you I have so many projects to do!

Heading out Miles/ Chinchilla way this afternoon. Gets me out of the office if nothing else.

cheers

not a lot to report.

Saturday fixed the retract problem on the FMS corsair, had to replace the whole starboard unit and replaced the gear door servo twice. Rubbish little turnigy micro servos @#$^#%^@

Fixed the u/c front strut on the Tiger moth. Mowed the yard, contemplated my navel for a bit. where does tht fluff come from? LOL

Started to get P47 ready to do a bit and by then it was nearly 4pm and too late in the day for painting so off to my couch to see what I could find on Netflix. I'm streaming via AppleTV. Huge time waster even though the content here is nothing like the amount you have in the US. 28m vis 250m probably to blame.

Sunday was Mother's day here so took my Mum out for the day and we had fish & chips by the beach.

Fingers crossed I can get back into it next Sat. I'll get the camo marked out during the week so that will save a little time.

cheers

good piccies mate. That looks like a nice flying field you have there. We have a motorway bordering our Nth/East end which restricts us quite a lot. The Western end has heavy bush/trees so if a model goes in there it is pick up pieces, if you can find it! and if the snakes don't get you!!

Finally got my Australian Defence Medal. :-) 10 years of RAAF service.

Thanks Pete. Yes, we are fortunate to have about 22 acres dedicated to our flying machines thanks to the benevolence of one of our club founders. The only real obstacle is a set of low power lines on the west end, other than that it is very clear. Congrats on your service. I invested 21 years of my life in the USAF, I often miss those good 'ol days. I look forward to seeing you finish your Jug up as it has been the inspiration for many on this thread.

Congrats on your service metal, and now that your winter is upon you get the jug done, but we can't let this thread die just to much fun with the bantering ie B/S

Chris,
that is a good career mate. I only did the 10 as there were no slots for promotion back in the 90s when military got cut to the bone under yet another socialist goverment hellbent on pandering to parasites grrrr

Funny at the time we grumbled and moaned but now look back with great fondness.

Hey say one of your photos of the P47 line on Best Pilot's FB page!

cheers

mate i need to get painting done before we get any really cold weather. I'm away on a work trip Wed & Thurs. Hopeing to get the marking out done before the weekend. Sat is forecast to be a beautiful day so I will be into the painting as soon as it warms a little bit, probably about 10am.

Aim will be to get camo on cowl, wing. Squirt the red on front of the cowl and yellow to rudder. Mind you I have to fit the ailerons and flaps too!

Agree mate we need to get a couple more build threads going on here.

cheers

good luck with that mate, mother nature is the typical female! Always trying to annoy us males!

Excellent news you sorted out your programming, at least that is one frustration out of the way for you.

Weekends progress.

Fitted the ailerons and flaps. These are now completed.

Painted the green on the cowl. Have also now marked out where the red will be, rubbed that area back and will squirt with primer to give the enamel something to bite into.

Marked out and painted the camo on top of the wing.

Coming along nicely.

Hey Pete, good to see progress. What are you using to mask the soft edges on your camo?

Mick,
all done freehand using a Paasche dual action airbrush. I feather the edges slightly using some cut & polish.

cheers

Pete, you are braver / have a steadier hand than me! I recently did a camo job on my Robart Jug, used a 3M product made specially for masking soft edges. It is like a cylinder of sponge foam with a sticky edge to lay it down. Looks like this -

The above pic is not my project, just to show what this stuff looks like. I am pretty happy with the result, the only tricky part is to get a consistant softness to the edge you must maintain a constant angle of the spray gun relevant to the foam cylinder. Not impossible but not that easy either when spraying a line across the top of the wing, up the side of the fuse and over the top of the fuse and down the other side!

The only negative of this stuff is that I had to buy a box containing enough to do 3 models and that cost me about $100!!!!! I need to build another couple of models quickly to use the rest of it.

Here is how mine turned out -

The Robart Jug will hopefully fly in the next fortnight. If that goes well I will have it at Bundy Warbirds.

Cheers!

hay Mick

That's the same stuff I/we one of my flying buddies use but we generally split a box and if you take care it can be used twice.

I like your jug looks great

you mean wheels I am thinking. From memory I got them from aerotech. Robart or Sierra also do them.

The ones on Mick's P47 will be Robart I think.

Mick,
is that the P47 that Greg had?

I thought of using that 3M stuf but could not locate any and as $$$ are very tight I thought I would have a go. Wasn't that hard even though the airbrush was playing up. As the splinter style camo pattern on this bird is very unusual it does not lend itself to be done with the 3M stuff.

Next to get done will be priming the front of the cowl then spraying it insignia red. Rudder will then be done in insignia yellow.

Stars and bars next followed by invasion stripes.

some VERY subtle weathering which will be around some of the hatches and cockpit coaming then a wash of dark grey in turps sprayed here and there to bring panel lines and rivets into relief. Exhaust staining and turbo supercharger exit to be dirtied up a bit.

I'm depicting a restored version so it is kept very clean.

decals and nomenclature.

Lastly a coat of clear with some dulling agent to give matt finish. This will be applied very lightly so the thinner does not react with the enamel and decals. If you apply in a very light mist coat it works fine.
cheers

Hey Chris, Did the mounting pylons under the wings also come from Aerotech? I'm looking for a set. I've looked for Aerotech but can't seem to find their web site.

Got mine from aerotech as well as many other goodies back around 2005 I think. Not sure if they are still in business or not. Can't find them on google.

Ziroli might have pylons and other scale accesories.

Pete, I have had the Robart kit for about 5 years now. Did a little bit on it while we were in Bundy but it did not come back out of the box until recently. Then hooked in and got it done pretty quickly until a couple of things did not go to plan & held me up quite a bit. Just need to replace a leaky air ram on a retract & she is ready to go.

cool, mate you will have a stable of P47s!

Mine won't be ready for Bundy and if I don't get certified on the P51 I won't be going. You aren't a heavy model inspector are you?
