Getting ready to do invasion stripes. Coat of white first then the black stripes.
Too late in the day to spray now though.

thanks guys. Contemplating redoing the wing insignia with the paint masks in lieu of decals.

Fuz will be much easier with the paint masks which means the wing needs to be done that way too. I still have one complete paint mask and can fix up the top of the wing where I painted the blue. Just fix up the bar by raising that as required and reducing the lower part of the bar. Bit of sanding and re-painting.

Will then mark for the white star and the white part of the bars. Not that hard. I have the template of the mask to use as a guide.

Good call Pete, you have done too much good work on the Jug to finish it off with stickers. I reckon in the long run you will be much happier with painted markings.

Some news from our end, we are about to move back to Bundy. It sucks that I am going to have to pack up the workshop again ( don't really need to tell you that ), but looking at real estate there it looks like we will be able to get a place with an even bigger shed.

My thoughts too, while I could get away with the decals it would annoy me and be a constant irritation.

Hopefully they peel off without taking paint with them. If they do I'll be doing a lot of sanding and filling

Moving to Bundy? Bugger, that sucks. Hopefully you both have work there as well?

where will you hanger the plane?

Packing up the workshop, that is a nightmare though I have packed mine in 2 days working like a maniac.

Good luck with the move!

Corsair is all repaired though the new Lipos are significantly lighter than the HK ones, I had to add about 14 ounces of lead to the nose to bring CG to 100mm from LE. Booklet states 120mm but the flight reviews recommend 100mm and that is where the last one was set.

Vibration was one prop blade badly out of balance. ron came over and we balanced it, runs sweetly now.

cheers

Good to hear you are getting the Corsair sorted.

Being back in Bundy will be good, just not looking forward to the process of getting there. Hellen has been offered a great job that she is really excited about.
My venture into producing kits with Richard's molds will be alot easier being in the same town as him.
Re the full size it should not be too hard to get a hangar there & even if it has to stay outside for a while it will be no worse than it has been being outside in the chemical filled air in Gladstone.
Actually there is almost nothing I will miss about Gladstone.
it will be great having the Bundy club as my home field, at least I can fly big warbirds there unlike the tight & sloping field at Gladstone.
Cheers!

Yes the bloody thing. Basic checks. Should have known better.
That is good news re Helens's job. Enough work there for you as well?

can understand about those kits. Need a bit of a production process and drive to get them moving. Could be good earners if you can sort that out.

Up up in maryborough for 2 days then back home.

No real progress. The decals on the wing were annoying me as I had always wanted them to be paint masked. While I could get away with it I have no doubt I would be irriated by them. OCD perhaps hehe

anyway I have pulled the top one off and of course a little bit of paint underneath also lifted as well as leaving a lot of glue residue. I have cleaned the glue using metho and have feathered out where the paint lifted. I'll apply a think smear of blade putty and fix that.

Some of the camo area needs to be touched up as well.

Overall outline of the circle is ok, I'll fix up the bars section so they are in correct place, mask off and rub back the bottom of the bar and spray with the colour underneath. Mark out the star, mask and spray. Bit of fiddling about but will be well worth it.

I still have one complete spray mask left and will use that on the bottom one. That decal is sill to be lifted. I might be lucky and it won't lift any of the underlaying paint.

Was out at Gratton field for warbirds event on sunday, good flying day and flew the pants off the foamie corsair. CG was a bit too nose heavy so took a bit out and it is now nice. Wing that was repaired is noticaly heaview so on take off it drops. I'll have to check lateral balance and add some weight to opposite wing to correct. Not a biggie..

Took wrong battery lead for the Vampire so could not fly that @#$$%

2 flights on the P51, landings were a bit hot! All good though did tip it up on it's nose on last landing when it ran off into longish grass and I broke the prop, $90 bye bye

cheers

Well you know me I get distracted by things of the blonde variety from time to time

Sounds like the weather sucks where you, no twisters I hope.

Weird weather here, not overy cold and we are getting a lot of rain and humidity, almost Nov/dec weather without the heat.

Hoping to get a bit more done on mine over the weekend.

Still have to get a new set of kill markings done though need some clear decal paper for that.

The farmers are lovin this weather rain//heat/rain it as the crops are doing great. the really bad stuff is a bit south so no worries hear so far

This is a holiday week end, but have to work the 4th. but with luck will get out fri or sat with the 47 as long as the wind stays under 15/
Still trying to get the repaint done on the Corsair finally started on the color.

funny about that, they do get kind of possessive.

Crops around here are doing well too. Strange weather , at least I have not really needed a heater so far so save on the power bill.

At least you are still getting some work mate so that is a blessing. Hope that painting goes well.

I'm hoping to do more work on the 47 painting on Sat, as long as i don't get distracted by a blonde hehe

Bob,
at 83 and a half you are a bloody legend, I hope to be half as good at you then.

Sounds like you are making good progress on that F4U.

I have been trawling the net to see if I can work out how to create the german kill markings that I need. So far no luck and the new people at getstencils not that helpful

Have contacted a couple of other places so will see how I go.

Hay Pete

When I got mine I ordered from the show in Toledo a few years back try " flightlinegraphics.com " for what I got I thought they were quite reasonable in $$$ stars/bars nomenclature markings and kill marks.

I don't have a clue if they will send to OZ you might just give them a E-Mail.

Hope you find what you need

Now off to try to do some painting

Bob,
thanks mate. I got reply from orginal vendor - hopeless!

Got replies from 2 others and negoiating with both at present to get them ordered. Some vendors can't print white, specialised printer apparently.

Once they can confim a few things I will know which one I'll use.

thinking I might get a paint mask for the wing insignia as well, make my life easier.

cheers

wasn't joking when I said that I had cleared my workbench for you!!

Pretty sure I already have the German crosses arework already done on file somewhere.
Depending on size, we could see what would be the best option for you. Give me a yell when you want to come over

thanks

ahh sorry mate!

I got one of our designers here at work to create artwork but it does not have the transparent part.

The file is done but the problem is going to printing it. The background of all jpegs can’t be clear so when you print it will print white as well. The only way around this is to use a GIF file but Mircostation cant make GIF’s with a transparent background. But if you happened to hit up a sign writer or print shop they will have no trouble doing it up and printing it onto a decent grade sticker for you and its quite cheap. It is scaled 1:1 on the jpg.

Cal-Grafx have been very helpful and have the art work, have provided them the dimesions and will get an other wing paint mask done to make that job easier. Small $$ so will be well worth it. I have everything else I need.

Oz,

We had a good day here on Saturday. Little to no wind and fair temps in the mid 80's. 7 flights a record for me. I'm not a volume flyer usually but i got in 5 on the Top Flight P-47 before my gear tweaked and I took it out of commission. 1 on the FW-190 above. Only one gear came down so my buddy bellied it in for me and did a great job. And 1 on the new Top Flight Zero. Nice Airframe very nimble and fast tracked well. A club member let me have a few circuits with it.

Alot of dribble just to say. Once you get that P-47 commissioned you are going to love the hell out of it. I can't say enough good things about it. I struggled for a few years in the hobby and the P-47 has me captured. I'm ruined, it is very nice.
