Pete
Sorry to hear about the wheels, been there. when I sold my pick up truck with a F/G topper, went to a Dodge caravan that have the sto-&-go system, and have had great luck with them, but can't use my racks in it. So in the process of building new ones.
Thought I had the balance figured out on the 47 did a re check to day, and some thing is out of wack did it on digital scales and the number's, put into the balance computer prgm, and it came up with a goofy number so will go back to the vennsa rig.
Ps after wife being confined to the house for the past 2 1/2 week's, its a bit tense hear at the moment, but time will tell.
cheers Bob T

Sorry I haven't been paying attention to the thread. I stopped getting notification. Saw a guy on TV with an Ausie accent and thought of you (Pete). So I'm checking in only to find out that I've been missing out.
Been working 9 to 5 5 days a week. Trying to fly on weekends but nothing is working like it should all Summer long. Things are going wrong that never where a problem in the past. I'm going to try and fly some IMAC this weekend cause I need to get away a little. THe 47 and the Fokker have both been on the wall pegs all year. Never had a chance to get them ready for the air. I need to redo the gas tank and reglue the Ruder on the 47. Also went to a DX-18 and will have to reprogram the plane once again. The Fokker only needs the fuel line changed and the batteries charge and reprogram to the DX-18. Just don't feel like messing with them. I'll get out of my Funk about the time winter gets here. LOL That just means I'll have the 47 and the Fokker in the air first next Spring. That's it for now. Have to go to bed. Promise to check in more often.

Hey guys good to hear from you both. Bit down in the dumps worry about $$$ can't go for a fly or even to the damn supermarket for that matter. Tis a small one up the road a bit so ride up on my treadly for basic supplies.
Bit of progress on the 47. Late start as I had to get printer going. Windows 10 migration upset it.

Looks good Pete
I would help you with a set of wheels, but it would coast more to ship it than it is worth as the wife no longer drives so we have a second vehicle that jus sits.

PS one other thing I have a pair of 1/8 thick boards I use under the wing's to keep from damaging the flaps notched on each end to clear the edges of the wing, that way the lines don't slip off. I can post some pic's if you like

Thanks Bob, that does help. What sort of timber is that? Think on my rig I used a philips head screwdriver with a hole drilled in the handle as it was all I had handy at the time! I should go but a proper plumbob from the hardware store.
Had a bit of a stuff up on the bottom of the wing . . .
Got some good progress done on the 47 however stuffed up the bottom of the wing when I applied the white for the invasion stripes.
Normally I will give a light sand with 600 done dry to roughen up the base coat which was dulon auto acrylic then apply light coat of grey primer, give that a light dry sand then spray the top colour.
Works very well and the paint takes nicely to it, does not lift.
As the day was getting away and I was getting impatient I decided to just spray the white straight to the wing, no rub back, no primer. The spray gun wasn’t adjusted very well so it was putting down a bit too much paint. Front part took ok, but the back half of the area looked like a mess of treacle. It did not bind to the surface and pooled with bubbles thoughout – Yuk!
So got a cloth and wiped away what I could then dampened a rag with thinners and wiped more off. Once it had dried I started wet sanding with 800. Normally I would use 600 but I’m out of it and no transport at present.
Have to get about 10 sheets of 600 wet and dry. Will see if Ron will run me to Supercheap after work. He is picking me up from train station at 4 as I have a large ARF kit to post off and I have no way to get it there otherwise.
Need tape as well.
Once I have it rubbed back to the base primer coat I will remove the tape except where the stars/bar is and do a light edge spray for the grey top colour, mask off then apply the primer and finally the white but with lighter applications this time.
Regardless of the stuffup I still got the wing stars and bars completed and the fuz squadron codes done. Fuz is looking good! Very pleased with it. Still the invasion stripes to apply to that as well. Will take my time though!!

The lumber is 1/8 X 1 1/4 clear pine, some of the guy's have just picked up cheep yard sticks and cut them up as needed, length is wing width plus about 1/4, plus the notch.
as long as you don't slip them around NO Marks but I have thought about gluing on some soft cotton, but that is easy to forget after the balance is done.

When I did this it required a new cowl, dummy engine etc, So the new cowl got scuffed good and an added layer of 5.0 oz.cloth then at the attach points a layer of C/F and .3 oz cloth on top, I went with a cast dummy engine and a 1/8 backer board. all up the new cowl weight is 1,1/4 lbs
This helped eliminate all of the lead that was in the chin, my engine is soft mounted so the soft mount plate is 2/8 cold rolled steel then to get the balance right I had to take out a big chunk in the center.
The other advantage with the plate it seams to dampen the viberation a bit
It is now ready to fly just have to get my test pilot and my days off lined up.
Cheers Bob T

that was an ouch moment for sure!! We have all done them. I expect to need to put a few pounds in the nose of mine, will get the lead weights they fit to your car wheels to balance them and silastic them inside the lip of the cowl. Hopefully that will keep the extra weight to a minimum.
You are blessed to be able to have work and have the worry of lining up days off mate. I hope to be still working at that stage too, unless I win a few $mil in lotto !!
cheers

abut the lotto over 20 plus years I think I have spent more than I have won never more than about 50. $$ and I only buy a ticket now and then.
That ouch moment was caused by the 2 foot tall tassels on the corn you see in the background, clipped the last 4 rows, and you could see the ark made by the prop

yes can't say I have had much luck with lotto either. Those sort of things have a habit of reaching up and plucking your plane right out of the sky, natures SAM!
We had our Ekka Show holiday here yesterday. Ekka is a bit like your state fair. So had the day to play in the shed. Got all of the old white sanded back with 400 wet & dry paper used wet. Sanded it back to the primer base coat, masked it all up and sprayed new coat of primer.
We had a thunderstrom come through about mid after noon and wind was gusty so I packed it up for that day at that point. Around 4pm it was sunny and warm again but wasn't in the mood to start playing with paint again by then. Went for a 6.6km walk by the river instead.
Will get back into it Saturday morning. Aim will be to complete invasion stripes on wing and fuz plus a couple of other small jobs this weekend. Would be good to have it ready for the small amount of weathering I plan on doing. then top clear coat to be applied.
It's getting very close!!

I never thought I'd se the day when you squirted paint on that Sucker. That looks great. I wish you could see the smile on my face while I was looking at the pictures. It's been a long time coming but when you see the paint going, You know it won't be long now.
Nicely Done!!!
