Hey Pete and Others
Well done with the pitot tube and the landing lights.
For the interest of others just thought I would attach the Spitfire link from Saturday.

This was at the Watts Bridge Fly in I attended.

Bummer about the little Spitfire replica. Can't see any clear reason for what happened but I would hazard to say that he simply got airborne too slow and she dropped a wing. Sure didn't seem like he was going too slow though. Pilot was very lucky it didn't dig in a tip and cartwheel!

strong cross wind from the left, not enough bootful of opposite rudder and had only been flying the type for 2 weeks is what I heard plus as you say chad pulled off too soon without letting it build up speed and fly off.
My initial thought was that he had reefed it off far too soon. Very lucky, if the wing tip had dug in and it cartwheeled there could have been fatilities.

Re the Spit, I did hear that the elevator trim had not been reset to take off & was still at landing i.e. lots of rearward trim. Unless it is a 3D capable model it is never good when the tail wheel is last to leave the ground. These particular Spit replicas have nasty stall characteristics and have killed a few pilots, this guy was lucky..........

Hi all as I have an extra day off, I did a Google search on the spitty flight manual.
It tell;s you to use one click of down elev trim for take off, and two clicks of right rudder, and if a cross wind can not be avoided the pilot should hold aileron control into the wind,
Sorry I can't write it the way it was in the manual as I just don't have the brit flare.
Cheers Bob T

Hey Pete,
Great to hear that your back on 4 wheels. Seemed like they were quicker than the quoted 3 weeks?
anyways, the p-47 is looking great. Let me know when your ready to weather it and we'll sort out a play date.
thanks
dave

yes it is very nice to have wheels again!! New engine is purring, only has 12,000km on it so essentially a new engine. Now for some new Pirellis!! $1500 ...
I'm going to get a few sets of those Tamiya weathering sets, one has burnt blue and burnt red which will be good for those areas heated such as waste gates and the turbo supercharger outlet. I meant to order those last night and forgot!
Once I have them we can set up when you can come over to assist.
Still have to get a 12 ch Tx, 2 x digital servos for ailerons and 2 x HS-645 for the flaps.
cheers

Hey Pete, are you planning on going to the "Scale Muster" at Tin Can Bay at tne start of October? I would love to support a new scale event but it is the week before I am planning on making the long trip down to Luskintyre ( Newcastle NSW ) for the big event there. I might try to get to Tin Can for the day on Saturday, it's a bit easier to do that now I am in Bundy.
Only Moved yesterday, in a rental with all my gear crammed into a double garage. We are building a new house that will have a 15m x 7m shed ( thats 50' x 23' for you yanks ) which will be awesome, going to be hard to get much building done until then.

Hey Pete,
Thought you already had a 12ch TX?? Rx maybe?
Anyways all ready to go for sat. We can use the Stuka for training purposes if I haven't finished it by then. Speaking of which, what are you up to on Saturday Mick?? Two birds with one stone.
thanks
dave

mate would like to but after dropping $13k for a new engine in the Disco I wont be going anywhere for quite some time. Too many bills at the moment and need new tyres and shocks, circa $3k.
then have to put some cash aside for a 12ch Rx and a couple of good JR digital servos for the 47.
Sent the seafuty retracts & P47 oil damped oleos off to custom retracts Monday so that is more $$ to find. Probably chepaer to buy new retracts for the SF but its scale over and under oleos are ok. P47 oleos need a service as the oil has leaked out of one.
You will be strugging with everything crammed into a double garage, what is the build time on the new pleace? Assume you will get slab down for the new shed at same time they do the slab for the house? Wish I could afford to buy a place.
Hope the build and moves go smoothly for you both.
cheers
Peter

See you then.
I got the nomenclature done on top of the wing and on bottom last night. Need to make new gun numbers though as the ones I have are way too small. Will have a look at word fonts today.
Also need to make the flap deployment scale.

the next 6 weeks are full up, but after that I would love to catch up, still have not even started weathering my latest P-47.
Dave are you likely to get to the event at Tin Can?
Cheers

started playing with nomenclature last night on the PC. I have USAAF font in ttf which I have installed in MS Word.
Took a bit of playing with font sizing but the result is about what I need. The ones I got from getstencils years ago were too small though most of the others are ok.
I will apply the ones I can and make the ones I don't like the look of. Print out on waterslide decal paper once I have them all compiled.
Now the flap deplyment scale will be a bit tricky. I am going to tape a pice of paper in place, measure off 10, 20, 30 and 40 degree claibration marks and the dimesions needed. Will then get one of our designer drafties here at work to create the art work in microstation. Print it off on waterslide paper again.
cheers
