No real progress of note. Spent Saturday morning over at ticketec (Dave) place getting some tips from him on weathering. Have bought some water based paints and Tamiya weathering master sets.

Still undecided as to what technique I will use but intention is to try a few and being waterbased if I do not like the result a wet rag gives me a clean canvas to start again.

Slowly applying nomenclature to the 47. Some is missing, wrong font size so will get the rest applied then print off the others needed.

Given it has taken over 10 years to get to this stage I am in no hurry to push this along.

Headed out Sunday for the Warbirds at Grattorn field. Took the P51 and the 90mm EDF vampire. Vampire did not last long, was not getting up to speed but I tried to lift it off anyway, the predicable high alpha and tip stall with resultant crash occured. It is probably fixable with a lot of effort but I am over it. Gave it to a mate of mine who has a garage full of birds to repair!

Had 2 very good flights with the P51, really threw the old girl around the sky. Landings were a bit hot but still nice, especially the last one. So very happy with that and gave me a lot of much needed confidence.

My normal nerves and right thumb twitch wasn't there for once. Maybe it was the nevervous dump beforehand that helped hehe

Will keep working on the nomenclature during the week. By the way Dave is very impressed that I have finally leant how to spell nommie, nommmancl , nomnomnom, nomenclature!!!

cheers
me

About the same hear, on progress. We had out annual club picnic last sat, and managed to dumb thumb my 300 into the ground, really flat spin, not enough altitude to get out. But it is repairable and nearly done, will finish it and then back to the corsair, with luck may get the 47 out next week have to do an engine and system check, taxie test for tracking and with luck off to fly.

I really like the way your nomenclature is coming out. Now if the weathering comes out as good you should have a winner.

bugger on the 300 mate. At least repairs are keeping you out of mischief.

The flap decal is too large so will play with scaling till I get it about right, does not have to be super accurate but does need to look right if you see the difference.

Thank God, our God too not the goat shagging variety - it is Friday!! Yay. Couple of meetings during the day, crunch a few spreadsheets and head home at 2.30 today.

Warbirds up in Toowoomba on Sunday, will take the FMS Corsair and the P51. Really enjoying flying the Mustang now, put a 18x10 Bolly on it and the ST2500 really likes it! The model pulls off the ground on take off with great authority, has good vertical and man is it fast!!

My Son call me the OLD GOAT and now some of my buddies have picked up on it, So

By the way I picked up a Brothers label maker white on clear and black on clear and when I use a matte clear coat you don't see the shinny clear material and it seals it on. I am using the Nelson paints and find them vary friendly to use, once you figure out the spray gun, I have a nice HVLP that I am having trouble learning how to use, so when I get frustrated I go back to my old stand by tuch up gun

Never did like paint but I dislike plastic more .

Thanks Dave, it is coming along and learning as I am going. Cowl is done and I did forget to photograph that. The grey areas look like grubby hands hae been pulling the cowl panels off, a little heavier then I was intending but it does look pretty good.

Playing with greys, ochre, red and blacks on the inner wheel door as they are grubby on full size. Will post a pic when I am happy with it. Dirtied up in the wheel well a bit too.

Went up to Toowoomba on Sunday and went to the field out on the soutern road which is the field it is normally held at only to find it was at the other field!! !@#$#$&* Could not be bothered looking it up so drive back home.

Weathering and netflix on Sunday. Went and did some groceries and had a dizzy spell, had to hang on to the trolley and still a bit dizzy. Not sure what that is all about.

Not much to report, did not fly Sunday as I had been out Saturday night and could not be bothered loading up!

Anyway spent a few frustrating hours getting the PC to be stable enough to do some work on. Imported the flap deployment guage Callie sent me from .pdf into MS Word and played with sizing till just right. checked it on the model and all good so that got added to my sheet of nomenclature. I also created the little exaust stubb tightening procedure that you wind on the cowl and at end of the wing fillet.

Test print on paper and checked against model. Ok print onto waterslide decal paper, looks good. Quick coat of crystal clear spray. Dries in a few minutes. Flaps, step, project No. blah blah etc applied and looking good. Forgot to take any pictures as we had a huge thunderstaorm come through.

Picture of the sheet though.

yes mate they are going on quite well, very pleaqsed with it so far. Quite satisfying creating your own decals.

I'm working my way through all of the ones that need to be applied.

Wing top - completed
Wing bottom - completed
Fuz - port side completed
Belly and fuz staboard side decals to do next

Then I will get back into weathering.

Final clear coat to be applied and systems fit out.

Hope that nurses outfit looks good on you hehe

Bit of progress. All the nomenclature has been completed and back to weathering. I'm learning itnisn an art form and the model is a canvas brought to life as you go and try things. So far so good.

Have a a look and see. Details coming to life.

Looking good Pete! Starting to believe you might actually finish it.

I look forward to flying Thunderbolts together.

I made a Jug cowl today using Richard's mold, it's for a mate down south who will use it on a Top Flite Thunderbolt. I am off for a short 1200 km drive this weekend for the Scalefest at Luskintyre near Newcastle, taking both my Thunderbolts.

Mick

Thanks mate, I could not find photos showing the full scheme as done in WWII so elected to model the restored one which has a different camo scheme. I also have a book on that restored version which I have based mine on.

Looking fantastic Pete,
the nomenclature really makes it, your weathering is also coming along nicely.
Working on the pond Saturday and Monday but went out for a fly with the Ugly on Sunday, great day for it with a good show at the club.
Did you get out for a fly over the weekend?

I sorta hope you don't finish it too soon, would love to have a Corsair ready for your next project.

Good to hear Ron is going to Luskintyre, always nice to catch up with him.

Wouldn't know Duane if I saw him, never dealt with the guy.

Duane is a gutless !@#$, sad thing is he was a RAAFie too. He must be getting thin skinned again as he popped up on my FB feed. mmm stalking are you mate, better to come have a chat face to face if you have the guts.

yes I think Ron is looking forward to the trip.

Rx is ordered and should be with me in next week. Will get back onto weathering over the weekend.

Lets list them . . .

finish P47
Cub repair
new wing for seafury
refurb JMI 90" spit
TF Cessna 182
HD Spit MkVIII 96"
HD P40 96"
Vailly Tempest 105" (plans call it 96" but it needs extra 2 bays in centre of wing to make it scale span to make it around 105")
Holman Yak 3 96"

Think I'll be about 139 by time I complete that lot. But yes would like a corsair and a FW-190A
