RE: CMP Hellcat
Remember too that the body of the retract becomes part of the structure taking loads the spar would take. It's important to make certain the wooden blocks the grear screw into are very well connected to the spar.
And or add carbon fibre!

RE: CMP Hellcat
I just went on the Century Jet Models web site and seen a set of retracts for the Hellcat are these ones for the Cm Pro Hellcat here is the part no#36699. They are saying it requires minimum modification to fit this gear into the plane.

I have the new canopy painted and installed. Here is a before and after pic. The big difference will be more apparent when I get the plane outside for some overall shots, but it sure does look better. Thanks Luke!
Luke I am still interested getting those accessories for my Hellcat. I have started doing some work to the plane glued the wings together and made a former for my air tank order my Robart 615 retracts and set Robart oleo struts 663.

Well, on my progress my wing is almost done, I'll be laying out the panel lines after I attach it to the fuselage. I'll post pictures this weekend.

I’d like to show where I’m at on this thing, it’s looking like I might have it finished in time to display it at the Maxwell AFB Air Show on Saturday the 8th. I’ll try anyway!
The first picture shows the glassed and primed wing, I like to finish the wing first and then fit the control surfaces. You never know they may need extra sanding to fit properly after glassing the wing. This is when I get all the gaps as perfect as possible.
After the test fitting I covered the aileron and outer flap with fabric. I’m just going to glass the inner flap with thin CA and light cloth, then just finish it the same way as the rest, thinned spot putty and primer. One thing I noticed is that the –3 had no right aileron trim tab, just a thin piece of metal, only has a tab on the left aileron. The –5 had full working tabs on both ailerons.
Notice my tip light lenses, those are mandatory for a proper scale look, easy to do too.
Paint coming real soon! She is going to look so sweet, we’ll show those Hangar 9 babies!

Hey luke,
Here's a bit of trivia,
The -3 Hellcat did not have aerodynamically boosted controls. Thats why there were no trim tabs. The -5 in order to correct the seriously heavy aileron force and make the roll feel as light as the Corsair had servo tabs added to aerodynamically boost the ailerons, thats why the -5s had trim tabs.

Hey Dion, your wing is looking good I like the nav.lights.I got from you some parts for my hellcat and the gear doors are to small for my gear,I,m using the sierra gear with 4"wheels and my wheel well is about 41/2" wide.Do you have a little bigger set that will fit. They need to be about a1/4 wider on the bottom and about3/8 higher for the links, where the bugh is.The rest of your parts fit great.I have to check thoese numbers but they are close.Just asking for now.
thanks Fred

It is very easy to make a non-scale size door using the exact scale one's I provide. Look at the picture below: By adding a piece of flight skin or even 1/16" ply to the inside of the door you can increase the size to whatever you need. I still think 4" tires look to big for this plane, but if you must just make the doors wider at the bottom. To finish them off add filler and some light glass cloth to the outside of the door, I know you can do it Fred! I don't want to spend anymore time on this plane, so I'm not going to make larger non-scale gear doors, sorry.

I'll try and keep the pictures coming so you all can follow along (even people who say they stopped reading my posts a long time ago but somehow knew I was on vacation!lol)
If you cut the 3 inches or so off each wing half you will have to install a spacer at the leading edge of about 3/16†balsa. The wing has to sit in the center of the wing saddle, so you should have a small gap at the trailing edge also. Notice that I attached the wing with some plastic wrap to keep glue and filler from gluing the wing to the fuselage.
Next I added 1/8†balsa to the belly pan, I just needed to sand a little off on the front to get a good fit.
I glued the belly pan to the wing and added a little extra thin CA to the joint.
Then I mixed up some resin and Micro-Balloons and filled the gaps, both in the leading and trailing edge areas.
You know how it is, you have to set it up on the gear for the first time to see how it looks! The gear location looks almost scale to me, much better than stock if not scale anyway. I’m currently experimenting with the Hangar-9 3 ½†wheels, they are almost exact copies of the Robarts! Only difference is that the tire is much thinner and therefore fits into the wheel well very easily. 3 3/4" wheels would probably be perfect, but I had to get them to fit in the wells using CJ gear, not easy to do. I can almost smell the paint, getting real close!

Oh and a little heads-up for those of you who are painting yours in the early blue-gray.... mine dissapeared several times during my flights Sun. The only thing I could see were the insignia. And I do mean flat out dissapeared.... talk about good camoflauge.
