Hi Guys,
I ended up buying an RCG 26cc, rear carb engine from Hobby King. The price was $176.78 delivered by airmail to Hawaii. A buddy in our club has one, and its a nice running gas engine.
I'm looking for a tail wheel retract for this model. Is the Robart air operated, metal-larger tail wheel assy. to large for this kit. Is there any other tail wheel retract assy. I can use on this F6F. I've installed the Robart plastic retract tail assy. in a 1/7th. scale 10# T.F. P-51...but I don't feel that this same retract will work well on any model over 10#...and this one may tip the scales at 12~14#. I want to beef up the tail section, and since I'm going in there anyway...I want to install a tail wheel retract too. I may use a smaller nose gear retract to do the deed, but undecided as to what path to follow right now.
I'm thinking of stripping off all the covering and then using .6 oz. glass cloth-glass the wing.
Soft Landings Always,
Bobby of Maui

If you go back to page 38 or 39 there is a how to on building a scale tail wheel for this model
I believe the templates are there as well. just search throught the following pages. It will support this model just fine. you can get the pc board on ebay or mcmaster.com. additionally if you need other scale part please contact me or chad veich as we have designed and are kitting an 1/8th scale hellcat and have some additional parts if you are un able to locate them.

One other thought
.5 oz to 1oz cloth is suitable. to be honest the 1 oz cloth is easier to work with with marginal weight gain.
great choice on engine by the way i am interested in seein how it flies i am putting a RCGF 20cc in my hellcat with approx the same weight range. will let you know.

A heads up with using HobbyKing.com. Some how, my order was kicked over to PayPal. I canceled my PayPal account and I have nothing to do with PayPal...PayPal is a rip off in my opinion. I ordered from HobbyKing using my Master Card, but these folks some how got PayPal mixed up into this payment. I wrote back to PayPal and to HobbyKing that I want nothing to do with PayPal in any way, shape or form, and that I didn't orthorize HobbyKing to turn over my payment to PayPal. I have been royaly ripped off using PayPal in the past...and I informed HobbyKing and PayPal that if they do not return the payment back over to my Master Card...to cancel the order. I also instructed them to insure my order and ship AirMail-UPS...these orders where not followed in my receipt. I'll keep you informed as to what happens.

I'm wondering if you guys have found a decent size prop nut for the hellcat. I'm putting it on the DLE 30 with the prop hub adapter, allowing use of 10mm center shaft extension instead of the 4 bolt method. Where do you guys find scale prop nuts for this bird?

I'm looking for a 3 blade prop for my DLE 30. Looking at apc 15.75x12, graupner 16x8, G-sonic 16x10 as potential choices. Anyone has experience with these props?
I found that the 2-blade 18x10 will get too close to the ground on the CMP hellcat. I'm flying off grass too. Will be having prop strikes if using 18" 2 blade ones.

Hay check5,
The retracts from Troy did not fit well at all. The struts were way to big to fit and without a machine shop near to modify the struts, I ended up sending the retracts back to Troy Built Models. I'm still looking for a set of retracts that will fit this model...any suggestions anyone?

RE: CMP Hellcat
I just installed a set of ESM retracts in a CMP Hellcat that I am putting together for a club member. Like was said the struts are too long for this Hellcat I had to shorten them 15/16" then rebore the hole to slip over the stub in the retract and then finally drill and re-tap the the holes for the locks. It was easy to do but without a lathe I would say it would be impossible. Took about 45 minutes start to finish so not hard to do. Will let you know how they end up working but I like the design with the ring and pinion. I have them installed and the plane is ready just doing the weathering now so maiden is close and I have to do that also such the fun.

The retracts that CJM makes for Hangar 9 P-40 is exact fit. Found that out by accident since I have the hangar 9 P-40 retracts that CJM made for me. Mine was the prototype and still working great. Anyway, just had maiden flight on this bird with DLE 30 and swinging apc 3-blade 15.75x12 that you can buy from Tower. Spinner nut from Tru Turn also at Tower. Let me tell, this prop is perfect for this plane/motor combo. It's swinging the apc at 6800 and speed is very good. Trust me, I'm a speed freak. I like my warbirds to hit as close to 100mph as possible on a low pass.

RE: CMP Hellcat
I also used the ESM retracts in my Hellcat. Didn't cut the legs, but made a bigger hole for the wheels. The Hellcat flies very fine, and is easy to make smooth landings with

RE: CMP Hellcat
Ref to CMP F6F Hellcat-I've been out of the loop for over 1 1/2 years, and have not put together our Hellcat or Zero (both CMP ARF's). I know of some the shortfalls of either kitsespecially how the Sierra retracts DO NOT fit properly into the wheel wells of the wing-needing resultant spar cutting and rerouting.
COMMENTS (not too derogatory, please)-as I'm getting back with the program to BUILT these. My Dad is 89and an ORIGINAL crewmember of The USS Yorktown, Pacific aircraft carrier. (Those of you RCU folks in NYC, it's the sistership carrier of the USS Intrepid in NYC). The Hellcat will be emulating one of the Hellcats from either AIRGROUPS 5, 1 , 3, 9 OR 88 OF THE CARRIER.) i ALSO HAVE THE TBM Avenger by Easy Tiger models. I have all engine, gears and equipjust need time to build. I WILL BE DOING 3/4 CLOTH OVER ALLAND USING BENJ MOORE HOUSE LATEX. Again: Comments to help me expedite?
