I'll save you the job and paint a bullet hole on . Look you have got me going again!
Did you see my Spit crash? I had an engine cut just as I turned down wind and it fell like a brick. I am not very experienced with scale and I suppose this is all part of the learning curve []

RE: For those who love World War Two Fighters
[:@] I think there is a video of the event[:'(], not nice to see. The down wind thing is not good when the fan up front stops. My 1a like all scale spits has a tendancy to flip even though the B.T is built very light. Last time it flicked was at the Nationals in Clubman on the loop and yes you have guessed it at the top, right above the then judges, because of the cross wind, "it made them move rather quick" vacating their deck chairs and it made me create new muscles where I though could not be possible threw clenching[X(]. The spits a handfull even on the ground, but then its a spit and worth it.

Dear mR JoLLy
It is just not on a possible 5 spit's up against a lone 109e even if it is Gallant at the controls
So we will get some of the Coltishall 190's (before anyone says the 190 is not a Bob aircraft, I know) up on your side. We are used to odds of 4/1 against not for.
I was a bit worried about holding the Bob on a friday but the numbers are swelling nicely.
It is predominately Warbirds this time, I think most of the Jet boys are going to Germany.
And to hold it on the 15th which I am sure you all know is Battle of Britain day is wonderful.
Dave Johnson the LMA Chairman should be coming, if he does not have to pick his relatives up from the airport on that day.
Are you boys staying for the weekend or is it a one day visit?
Anyway thanks for supporting in my mind this important event we must never forget those
brave boys on both sides. I am really looking forward to it.
The scale thing if I can help you with any advice regarding flying the Warbirds I will.
It is a question of experience and the only way to get the experience is to do it.
You could help yourself with the Spit by making the tailwheel stearable.
I know it should caster but the order of the day must be to get these precious warbirds up and down in one piece. Before you start the take off run, you know the Spit is going to want to swing to the left, so hold some right in at the start.
As the speed builds the nose might just start to go to the right, just ease a little off but never
take all the rightrudder off as she will swing violently to the left.
It is little things like this that comes from experience.
Please don't think I am talking down to you I am only trying to help.
I just wish I could build and finish my models the way that you do.
Thank You.
Phil Goff.
Jugman if you are there, they are going crazy about your Spit on RCMF.

jugman80 yes the video is on my putfile site [link=http://media.putfile.com/MK923-Tip-Stall]http://media.putfile.com/MK923-Tip-Stall[/link] very ugly.
Phil you know I listen to people with more experience than me, you talked me through my very first scale model maiden at Colt, and most appreciative I was too. Would have been perfect if the goon that put the OLEO's on had locked the pinch bolts correctly!
That tail wheel is a problem and I am going to do something with it. While I am hacking the model I might as well do the wheel at the same time. As you know the take of on the ill fated flight was a little hairy but quickly brought under control. Can't have that.
The BT PRXI (when I get back to it) will have a very nice steerable retractable wheel [8D]. And anything I produce in future will too!

Dear All
The chap I mentioned in an early post who was going to put his Yt P38 on static for us.
Is or has lost his job and the P38 that has made a splendid job of making and finishing
is up for sale. How bad is that.[&o]
Regards PG.

Dear All
Just to say that free Food and Drink will be provided on Friday the 15th, at Coltishall.
Here is a link to put file, where you can see a short montage with effects of previous
model aircraft events at Colt.

Dear Mark
As always first class pics, I particularly like the one where the Lanc is banking to the right
where you can see the undersurfaces.
Thank you for your help today.

RE: For those who love World War Two Fighters
Hi there
A new thread seeker looking for spit info. I read somewhere the Douglas Bader flew a Mk IX. Saw it on the web somewhere but cannot find it. I would prefer to get info on the one he flew, rather than make "alterations"to my Mark IX PICA kit. Can anyone give serial numbers etc as I can then get some research going.
Thanks
ken

RE: For those who love World War Two Fighters
Dear Ken
I will look into it for you.
Douglas Bader was RAF Coltishall's most famous son.
He was Commander of 242sqn who flew Hurricane's during the Battle of Britain.
My avitar is Douglas Bader looking at a Hurricane with a picture of Hitler on it
with the boot of 242 kicking him up the butt.
Douglas Bader was shotdown/collided in I think August 1941 and he was flying a Mk V Spit, he was captured by the Germans. The Mk IX did not come into service until 1942.
So as you can see he could not have flown a Mk IX.
Unless it was after the war when he led a large formation over London.
Regards Phil G.

RE: For those who love World War Two Fighters
hi phil,
im the friend of graham buchanan, he mentioned me a while back, i hope to have my Ziroli hellcat finished and test flow before your meet at Cottishall, i will keep you informed of the progress, i also have a martin surginson bolt (same as micsuts) with a king 100 in it, i may take that instead, is there a limit to how many people can go? my friend Nigel I'anson who recently flew at the Max show may be able to come if i can persuade him to take a day off work!
i have a few other friends with large scale warbirds, let me know if there is a limit to the numbers,
thank you

Dear Dave
Yes I can remember Graham's post regarding your goodself, nice looking P47 and Hellcat by the way.
We are officially allowed 25 guests but we can manipulate that number a little bit.
So what I am saying there should be room for your friends.
Your friend Nigel, I am sure I flew with him in a Warbird formation at Baldock earlier in the summer.
I really do hope that you can attend the Battle of Britain at Colt we have superb facilities
and everyone is always made welcome. We also provide free food and drink. The models that you have are just what we are looking for.
All we ask is this, that modeller's support us when we try and retain Colt as our flyingsite once Defence estates take over.
As you have probably seen from an earlier post, I will need from everyone their names, addresses, tel num, car make type and registration.
On the day everyone will need formal ID, Driving licence or Passport will suffice.
Thank you for your interest in our event, I look forward to meeting you and your friends on Friday the 15th of September at Coltishall.
One of our new members at the club came up to me yesterday.
He asked me why Jets were being allowed at a Battle of Britain event.
I told him that it was nice to have a mix of both jets and Warbirds/scale.
He went away quite indignant about that.
What I will say is this, due to the Jetpower event in Germany the jet numbers are down on previous year's, but there will be several present.
The majority of the models attending are Warbirds(WW2) so that should keep our new member reasonably happy.
Regards Phil G.

Ken you will have seen it on the RCSCALEBUILDER forum. The BT Spitfire V thread that is WIP by Barry.
Phil is correct, the MKIX was flown at the mamorial by DB which had been decorated with his marks. Unfortunately I do not have any details on the Spitfire used.

We had the B-17 Sentimental Journy do a flew by on sat Aug 5th. Here are a few pics of that it really made the event something special for us warbird fans. The event is to honor the Piper airplanes but it is open to any and all planes.

RE: For those who love World War Two Fighters
We were then blessed to have a flyby from the B-17 Senimental Journy that was on tour of the east coast and had spent the last week just down the road in Williasport PA. It flew over sat Aug 5th around 2pm. Our little Lock Haven airport was just rocking when the B-17 did a nice slow wheels down pass and circled around and flew right over out heads!
