RE: KMP New Spitfire Mk XIV
Hi Christophe,
Yes, it was a good feeling to have two successful flights! I used full flaps on both landings...about 70 degrees. The flaps seem to make little diference in the pitch attitude when they are extended, and they slow the Spitfire very nicely for landing, you need to have the power on a little for landing as the flaps produce a lot of drag..
I added yet another 1/16th shim under the landing gear, moving the wheels forward a bit more.
My computer radio allows me to slow the digital flap servos so it takes nearly two seconds for them to extend and also two seconds to retract, that way the effect of the flaps on the model while in flight is not too abrupt..looks good too!

Retractable tailwheel:
Do you guys think the Robart retractable taiwheel could work on this model, even if it is only rated at 10lb max.
Please advise. as other models of retractable tailwheels is difficult to source in South Africa.
Regards
Carel

I'll give it a go. I'm just fashioning the fastening system I will use to attach each set of ports to the cowl. I've made a ply template to which each side will be screwed at three points. The ply has been coated to provide fuel and heat protection, and I will then silicon around each exhaust half with manifold gasket silicon to provide some heat protection and anti-vibration control. It should all fit together nicely in the end.

RE: KMP New Spitfire Mk XIV
Thanks for the input DVM100 Have you had to add any weight to the front for balance? I'm in the process of building one of these with the 120SP. I have a retractable tail wheel with gear doors and pull pull for the rudder as well as a hidden control horn in the fuse for elevator actuation. I have moved all the heavy servo's forward as much as possible but I know these planes are tail heavy. I'm hoping with all the previous plus a 4 blade articulating pitch prop (center hub is pretty heavy) I won't have to add any dead weight up front.

Aluminum overcast,
Don't think you wouldn't have to put any lead...
I don't know what weight is your hub, but with an OS 120 AX, 2 Nimh 2000mAh in the nose, i'll had to put 700g of lead just behind the spinner...
i' m very curious with your pitch prop.
Where did you find it? Have you pics from it ?

"Aluminum Overcast", excuse me but it seems to me that you have reversed mounted that propeller. If the engine spin counterclockwise sure it is reversed as the blades straight line are the blades trailing edge and if your engine spin clockwise, the curved leading edge faces rearward.
Even if your propeller have any pitch control, it seem excesive that it has anegative pitch when stoped. Please double check it and excuse me as I do not want to fault such an excellent work you are doing but only avoiding a possible mishap.
By the way, at my club here in Spain there are two of this Spitfire model and both -like the real ones- are very easy to nose over on take off and landing so (one of my club mates average one propeller per flight) , please, consider making first flights with a normal propeller till you feel confortable before trying the scale propeller.
Best wishes and good luck with your model.
