My 190 is about 2 weeks away from test flight. I used the Sierra precesion retracts(absolutely beautiful). I have a set of the Mackay retracts and I'll let you have them for $200 if your interested. No way this bird comes in at 33lbs. I haven't weighed mine yet, but I'm guessing around 40lbs. I have a 3W 120 up front with a scale FW 190 prop That I had PK Props make for it. Should be interesting.

Contact me in a few weeks and I'll let you know how it flies.

I used Sierra Precision air valve, PSI guage and Schrader type fill valve on my Ziroli P-38 and they are great. His 4-way valve pushes those heavy Robart retracts up and down with no problem while the Robart valve didn't move enough air.

A picture of your 190 when done would be great! Good luck with the maiden flight!

Mustang 51,

are the retracts that you installed in the fw 190, the same size as the valliancourt's, I have the vailly fw 190(not build), and have the sierra retracts, great product, but this kit is absolutely great, is this the same as the world models from germany?
regards.

It's the same kit. I had Darrell (Sierra Precesion) lenghten the struts by an inch to make them scale.

I have a set of Vailly retracts for an FW190.....

Where can I get info on the Stuart Mackay FW190?

Is there a website, or distributor?

Default Mackay FW190

branded,

The struts for the Vailly Aviation FW-190 are not long enough
for the Mackay FW-190. The Vailly Retracts could be modified
with longer struts if needed.

Here is the address for the Stuart Mackay web site.

http://www.moki.co.uk/fw190.html

Hope this helps,

Darrell

Is there a distributor in the US?, or do we need to by direct from England, it looks like this kit may replace my valliancourt FW 190!.
Is the saito 450 to small for this kit?

according to their website it requires an 8.5 hp (that's the low end goes up to 12) engine so the Saito 450 putting out 7hp may be a little weak... unless you find a way to make this thing 30 pounds instead of 40?

I have a 3W 120 in mine. I figured a 3W100 may have flown it, but I wanted a little more stink up front. Mackay claims the 5 cylinder engine he sells will fly the plane. I have seen this motor run and although the sound it makes alone warrants it used in a fighter of this caliber, it is WAY too much motor for this airplane.
I do think the Saito is too small though. He claims his Boxer 90 will fly it. MAYBE with no retracts, scale ANYTHING (cockpit ect...) and no paint, it might fly it. But there is no way this airplane comes in at 30lbs.

There is no distributor in the U.S. You will have to get it through Mackay in the U.K. I was very fortunate and happened upon this kit through RC Universe a few months ago and got a good deal.
Don't know your finances, but be prepared to pay around $700 just in shipping. This is one big\HUGE box\airplane.

-Mustang51

Incidently...

If you're going to build this airplane... You MUST get the retracts from Sierra Precesion. Darrells retracts are absolute works of art.
I did not realize it at the time, but he makes an airvalve for them.
Had I known it, I would have used his valve. I am using the Robart adjustable valve and it works just fine.
Darrell is now making a scale tailwheel retract for the 190. I have seen pics of it, and it too is AWESOME. He produced it after I had gone with the Robart unit, which is nice, but Darrells is more scale looking.

Thanks John. I'll let you know.
And that you Geistware. Once I finish her off and can get some detail shots, I'll be sure to post them.

On the weight issue...
I did a final weigh-in on the 190. 49lbs.
Bull Crap, 30lbs.
Now, I have alot of extras. Batteries and speakers for the machineguns.Machinegun strobes Light system, aircylinder for the canopy and entry ladder. take away all that stuff and you're still looking at a 40lb. airplane...39lbs. at the least.

But they say it flies great... We'll see.

Mustang 51,
The plane is awesome, you are not kidding it is huge!,I just read their site and you are right the saito450 is to small,AIRWORLD recommends the MOKI 90 BOXER.
I got the main gear and tail wheel from Sierra they do produce a great product!, I will look for their air valve.
Send more pictures when you get a chance!

Loucel...

If I may suggest...
Use the Spinner from Meister scale. It is the ONLY one out there that is the right shape. All other advertised spinners don't even come close. I also used Meisters centerline fuel tank, it too is the best\only one around. It also comes with the pylon, and though made of ABS plastic, it looks pretty good with some doctoring.
Be advised... The retrofit with the Sierra gear is not an easy one. You must completely rip out the mounts that are there and reinstall a set of rails that you will have to make. Trust me on this one. It was a pain in the neck, but well worth the end product.

If you feel I can answer any questions you may have, don't hesitate to ask.

Mustang 51,

Hey Thanks, I will keep you in mind!
I have Roy Valliancourt's FW 190, complete every option, including some MAISTER parts, Sierra retracts, etc.etc, this is my winter project, or may be was!!
I will do more research on the AIRWORLD model "cost will determine the outcome"
Tell me your model the A-1 version?

Loucel,

This is an FW190-A3 model.
Asside from cost $. Don't let the retrofit scare you. If you are capable of building the Vailley. You can do this.
As for the money? You'll spend about twice the amount building this one. Pricey, I know.

MUSTANG51, I have attempted to contact them to get shipping pricing....The kit goes for around $1800 bucks. It seems a reasonable price considering the quality of the kit.....

I know you said you were considering the 3w120 but have you looked into the 3w150? I have the opportunity to aquire one at a reasonable price but don't know if it will fit the cowl without modifications...

What do you think??

If it is any bigger (wider)then the 120, you will have to relieve the cowl. I'm thinking the 120 is going to be a good choice.

Default 1/4 scale FW190

Guys,

Thinking of getting myself one of these as a winter project. Quick question though, what size / quantity servos are you using on this size model. I've a few 35-40% aerobats with multiple servos per surface and just wondered what the deal was with a similar sized warbird?

Thanks,
Mark

A3W120 is plenty of power for this model. I had this engine in my 110 inch 52 pound Seafury and we clocked it at 106 mph...not bad for a round engine thick winged beauty....so there is plenty of power there for this FW. 4 friends of mine have this kit and it is a beauty...too bad I already built an enlarged 110 inch Vailly FW190. But, I will reaffirm that you should go with Darrell's (Sierra Precision) gear. He made the set I have for my 110 incher and they are the best retracts this poor modeler has ever owned.

I have a DA-100 sitting idle - what d'ya reckon, enough grunt or not?

Anyone got any close up panel line/rivet detail shots to show the quality of the mouldings?

Thanks,

I would not hesitate putting a DA100 in it even at 45 pounds. Fyi, I have 2 planes at 50 pounds that fly quite briskly on Quadra 100's. The key is the right prop. I ran a 28x12 on my 3W120 in the Seafuy. I'd say a 26x12 with a DA100 would be a good set-up, or even a 26x14 or 24x14 if it does not over rev the engine. On a warbird, the key is pitch over diameter to get the plane moving like a warbird. I started out with a 30x10 on my Seafury and 3W120 setup and the plane was a dog. 28x12 was the perfect set-up.

I plan to do a final C\G, all-up weight on my 190 this weekend, hopefully some engine tests as well. I'll take and post some detail shots when I do. Weather permitting... First flight will be next Wed. or Next weekend.
