LDM Please do....
Thanks...... I tried e-mailing cmp w/ negative results.... when I called GSP they said 20 degrees on ailerons and 15 degrees on elevator..... after looking at the instruction manual for the cmp hellcat and p 51 They average 15-20 mm on ailerons and 15mm on elevators...
What engine have you settled with???

I am going with the Saito 150 , can you suggest a good place to buy it ???
ALos give me until 3 tommrow and I will give you all the Pica details , will also review CG on the Pica considering the GSP seems sparce on details , I know they give CG but I just want to compare it to Pica .
Have you look at my elevator suggestion ??? looks easy to me to make scale with one cut

ok, getting started I decided to go with nylon hinges..... not sure how good c/a's will hold up on this size plane.... and the hinge area was too thin for robarts

cut my slat w/ a dremel, and counter sunk them with a cone dremel bit.. even added one extra hinge on each side so i had one every 3 inches. a little vasaline on the hinge line to protect it from the 30 min. epoxy ... done.... I don't think I have used a piece of hardware that came with the kit yet..... got better horns from greatplanes.... and using 4-40 rods on the servos.. total weight difference w/ better horns and hinges installed.....
.75 of an ounce

started working on the motor mount......
The anti-vibration mount that is included w/ this kit does not work on a saito... So I went out and bought a dave brown mount and crossed the two to come up with my own hybrid..

Then the engine had to be countersunk because if you raised the engine to give clearence to the anti-vibe mount you would throw off the spinner position.

with all these additions... I wanted to drop some weight.... so I dropped the drop tank... lol
so far I have added:
.75 - of an ounce due to nylon hinges, better control horns, and 4-40 rods/connectors
.80 - of an ounce due to plywood reinforcement and glue to motor mount
total = 1.55 ounces UP
Took of drop tank 3.2 ounces
so I am in the green 1.65 ounces

Finished my nose reinforcements..... the instructions only show that you add a small piece of balsa to the cowl..... nothing to the nose...... and where the nose meets the cowl there is only thin fiberglass.... nothing to screw into..... so I made my own supports.... and I reinforced the cowl with fiberglass around the edges with a balsa support.

got stuck on a few issues.... fuel tank placement, to pump or not to pump.... that was the question... cj air retracts are in the mail, hopefully tomorrow, motor is broken in, will post some new picks soon.... Plane is nice.... but has alot of issues that should have been solved at factory....eg tank placement, engine soft mounting, nose ring mounting, nose reinforcements, cowl mounting...etc..... but it is definately a nice looking and assembled plane.
