Byron P-51 Mustang Retracts
Question to those with the Byron Mustang with the sequencing doors. The instructions call for a 180 deg. servo that travels at 3 seconds. I'm assuming that this sets the timing for the inner doors to open, the gear to deploy, and the inner doors to close again. Easy enough, BUT, where does one find a retract servo that transits at such a slow speed?
If such a beast no longer is available, what are the methods you've used to operate your gear?
The instructions state that if you don't have a 3-second transit then to put a wheel collar on the line to slow down the doors. My question here is even if you slow the air down the retract spool is still moving faster than called for. Won't this cause the doors and/or gear to hang up?
Thanks in advance for your help!

You need to get a air valve by Ultra Precision. Can't recall the number, but get a call in to Iron Bay Models in West Virginia they have them. You'll also need two air cylinders for the inner gear doors. The old stuff you are inquiring about is no more. I've got this valve and cylinders installed in a Pica P51 works like the real thing no problem. Just don't run the air supply to low.

Dunno . . .
. . .yet. I'm getting the Futaba 9-CAP as an anniversery gift and I know you can adjust some channels for speed, but I don't know if you can do that with a retract servo!

P-51 flyr you may have saved my bacon! I was thinking of going the route of the Precision spool as well. I bought this kit from a guy that's had it in the box for years. My original idea was to build it as is but I didn't know of this particular "quirk". Thanks for the info. P-51 flyr you'll have "mail" in a sec!

Hi,
It was originally designed for the Byron retract valve, which was a double spool valve. The servo was a 180 degree Byron retract servo that was geared so that the transit time was around 7 seconds and used ACE mechanics. Still have 3 of them. Use the UP valve, the byron setup always leaked.

It's in the mail
Thanks for the address and offer Tim. The check is in the mail. Last question. Should I have to switch to the UP spool will I have to change to air up/air down, or will the valve work with the original set up?
