My 1/8 scale Sopwith Triplane
Scratch built out of coroplast from a three view; 40" span, OS 25 FP, 3 lb. 10 oz. Absolute joy to fly with a smooth take off every time and an amazing rate of climb. Landings are still a challenge with a wobble followed by a nose over most of the time. Construction is a little unorthodox: aluminum struts and cabanes, foam ribs attached with carpet tape, no spars, fuselage sections are sewn together with dental floss, coat hanger landing gear that bends easily but never breaks. I'm helping a buddy make another one, might draw up some plans for it this winter.

Nice job! thats pretty darn cool.
I have steered away from the triplane's because of the nose over factor, well that and the short fuselage makes the plane a little jerky for lack of a better word. Let me try and explain that, maybe this plane does not do it. But I have seen video of most the DR-1's and all of that wing makes them seem very elevator sensitive. Have you thought of extending the length of the fuse to keep it from tipping and also to make it fly more smoothly? Or does you'rs not experience that issue?

Thanks for the comments. I must of been lucky with this one, fuselage length is to scale and it tracks nicely in the air. The poor landings are likely due to the narrow undercarriage and all that weight above the fuselage. I consider a models shortcomings part of the WWI fun. This is my fifth 1/8 scale WWI design and they all fly differently, The EIII and DII have a hard time flying at all!

Love the look and the size of this WWI
We did the same last year and formed a WWI combat patrol all the B-planes are 38 - 42 W/S with the Monoplanes 48 W/S Engine used is a .25 or equivalent FS.40
After flying WWII big aircraft for the past 5 years I can say that WWI are the most challenging and fun models to fly!
Attached is our Dawn patrol!

Nice looking fleet. We have about a dozen pilots in our area that fly the 1/8 scale bipes and tripes. Truly a magnificent display with 7 or 8 machines in the air at once. We're constantly being asked to fly demos at the big fun flys in our area. Here's a shot from our Bloody April event this year in Oakville, Ontario.
