It sat there for toooo long, motivation was the Grandchild wanted it in her room. Well maybe the real reason was I wanted to tack up a set of plans on the wall and that was the best place to do it

Not the best examples but maybe will give you the basic ideal.
Devens, Those are pocket/ "scale" hinges.
Thanks for the pics Gary.

So is anyone flying thier Corsairs?
Pictures, Video's
I'm still waiting on Tape to do my panel lines so it looks like it's going to be a while before I'm done.
I know we had a couple people that did the folding wings but we have not heard about any flights so if you folks are still around give us some updates.
If your building one, post some pics.

Have a good one folks.

We had a great day at Warbird Saturday at the SMMAC field near Owatonna, Minnesota! Lots of flying but I was the only Corsair there! Here are some photos shot by Steve Mills.
My panel lines are not done, my canopy is held on by packing tape and my paint is chipped but it FLYS!!

Randy,
And the funny thing about it is,there up in your neck of the woods. Kind of strange they build a folding wing and then you don't
hear a word at all. it makes me want to wonder that it didn't do well. Or something else happened.

Not sure what your saying but anyway. There are a couple Corsairs here with folding wings and running Moki radials. One of the fellows was over at my place a month ago andshowed me what hehad done.I guess a guy can make it as complicated as he wants or just put in a hinge, a couple cylinders and there you have it.
It's a little more than that but you get my drift. MY reason for not doing the folding wing is that I lack the experience in this area so I will attempt it when I know exactly how I'm going to do it. I know too many times I get doing something and then drop it because I didn't have a clear path.
Once I get some panel lines on mine I'm going to hook everything up and fly it. If it fly's I'll finish it. If it doesn't perform like I want it too it will be firewood.

GaryM, I just notice thing's and wonder, such as what kind of toy bipe is that in the window.
And, Thank's for makeing me re-do my hinges. Scale hinge's never crossed my mind until the above post. Don't know why.

DEAD STICK:

I had a ball flying my Corsair this weekend at the Owatonna, MN field.
I got a little greedy and tried to stretch my flight time to chase my buddy's Yellow Aircraft A6M5 Zero . . . and I suffered for it.
The trusty Corsair screamed across the runway at 2' then I pulled it up into chandele . . . then silence . . the Corsair was at the top of the turn, over the oaks, with no power and little airspeed. I pushed the nose down to gain airspeed and try for the beans . . . no luck. The Corsair was gaining airspeed when she disappeared into the oak grove. Then there was the loudest CRACK, BOOM, BOOM as it made contact. It was heart-wrenching. We hunted in the buckthorn and thistles for over an hour before someone stumbled onto the wreckage. Now I have a rebuild project.

i have a spare kit i am using for parts, all of the cut parts are there, look on the sheet and let me know which ones you need. they will be more than reasonable as i bought the kit the same way. i know the sound you mentioned, it is sickening.

OUCH.
Condition is that the fuse looks sound, The landing gear is up and safe, Wing and tail repair and you are back in business
I sounds sooo easy, but it's flying season, not building season!

Sounds like the first [pages of a WWII novel! You may have a new career!
Get er done!

damn man! Looks like fire wood to me. I wouldn't chance fixing that kind of damage on a giant scale plane. I might be too conservative. Sorry about the crash.

FLY2XF.......I did about the same amount of damage in the same areas about 3 years ago....that is fixable......my bird is still flying..... the fix was just fine in fact I corrected some areas in the tail that I overlooked when I built it....My damage was due to a dead stick situation too close to the ground I had gear damage as the gear was down......I use the rule we are MODEL BUILDERS so we can take a broken bird and make it fly gain ,,,,just like we can take a box of balsa and ply and scratch build an airplane. I don't let it keep me from the flying field so I take my time and rebuild in spare time.. RCpilot78

Hopefully not firewood!
While I can't see the internal damage, It doesn't look that bad.

I have a friend that would take that out of a burning fire and have it flying again because he likes to save stuff.
At least two of his "Garbage can planes" have flown at Top Gun.

If it was stripped down and you looked at the framing that is left, you woud say its mostly done.
Most of it need not even be stripped
A fix here and there and recover it. A lot less work than a new kit! Then all back together again.
Time, patience, skill, and work. (Epoxy, CA, Glass cloth, wood and paint help as well)

Get er' done!

Thanks Guys!
I agree, it looks like a much simpler fix than starting a new kit.
Fiberglass is a wonderful bag to keep the parts in.

I'll gut the bird when I get some time and I'll try to do a rebuild thread.
In the meantime I have a second Corsair with a Sachs 4.2 that needs to be set up to fly!

Let's see your flying shots!

Here are some pics of one that my father built. Mods include, shortened the nose, widened the fuselage from the nose to the cockpit, enlarged the flaps, outer wing panels are fabric, increased the taper on the outer wing panels.[img][/img]

MMORG1, Nice looking Corsair!
Scott, sorry to hear/see your Corsair's crash. At least it happened while you were pushing the envelope and not some mysterious brown-out, loss of control, reveresed ailerons, or other seemingly common occurence. By all means, dig another out of the basement and get back into the air ASAP!

Hey gang, well I layed the 1/64th chart tape for the panel lines in the fuse and man I don't know about you guys but the tape I recieved from Graftix sure didn't want to stick very well. I put 3 coats of primer over it and then pulled the tape. I've never done panel lines before so I'm not really
sure I know what the hell I'm doing. I tried leaving the tape on to begin with and sanded the primer but found I was also sanding the tape which made it rather difficult to remove after so I decided to just pull all the tape and do my sanding. I am going over the lines with a scribe as I go to save the lines.
I'f anyone has some good ideas on how to do this please chime in.
I don't know if there is a better tape out there that I should be using or what. I can't find any tape in Canada tht is 1/64th.
Thanks

I usually get the plane ready for paint. then paint silver where the chart tape is going to be laid. put the chart tape on and paint the airframe. I leave the chart tape on but over time it sometimes will peel, hence the silver underneath.

Looking at your picture I have to say I like the mod to make it an F4U-1 with the bird cage canopy vs. the F4U-1A with the bubble canopy. That is a nice touch!
