I will certainly put up a thread but it's going to be down the road a bit. Too many projects on the bench already!
Thanks Bob! I actually had a TFGS Corsair kit many years ago but traded it off as I wanted to do something more scale. Well, the more scale Corsair is now stuck in limbo due to a lack of suitable retracts so maybe I'll just bang out this new TF bird for sport flying until I get the gear issue solved for the other one. It might be a nice change of pace to work on a kit with fully illustrated step by step instructions!

[QUOTE=Chad Veich;11862208 I won't be doing anything with it any time soon but at least I have the kit to use for reference when I get started on that birdcage canopy plug![/QUOTE]
I started on mine this weekend, slightly. Just a few parts of the horizontal stab, but it's a beginning.

Befor you get to far in to the tail feathers check with chad, if I remember right he has a set of plans and maybe parts for this size bird that would correct the problems witth shape and hinge line's
There was a group that were trying to get as close to scale as you could get for this bird and Chad was one of them, he may be able to realy help with some of the mods. That is if your interested. I know if I were going to build another F-4U I would try to find there old thread and use a lot of its info, maybe Chad can give the link to it
Cheers Bob T

Thanks, Bob. Since this is my first build in a quite a while, I think that I'm going to keep it sort of simple, with just a few scale touches. I'm going to do the wing mod to have simulated cloth outer panels, sliding canopy, gear doors, and probably panel lines and rivets. At this point, that might be as scale as this one goes, now it's going to be a long project, so that could change though. lol. If this build goes well, meaning my skill are decent and this bird turns out good, then I may do another that's scaled out.

So I got the box out today and started setting up for the fuselage project. ("I LOVE TOP FLITE DIE CRUSHED BALSA") My plan is to slightly shape the fuselage a little differently than the plans call for. First I want to get a little more scale shape to it so I started looking at some 3 view drawings and matching up to what I'm seeing on the top flite plans and the first thing I notice is that top flite has started reducing the width straight from the f1 former back. from what I can see from other drawings that I have that doesn't actually start happening till about the center of gravity. So I'm gonna change that ever so slightly. It's actually only about 1/4" difference but I'm trying to get rid of that tubular shape that the top flite corsair's have.
Next I have to start building the box and hatch. I like being able to open the top of the plane to access all the electronics. this will also allow me to move servos further forward along the sides of the fuselage to help with balance issues.

Grumman-Cats When I built my Corsair last year I ended up changing the sheeting to 3/32 as the 1/8 was very brittle even when wet. just something to keep a eye out for.

Admittedly, I have not made it through the entire forum yet (or the wing reference posts), only up to page 122, but I'm going to ask a question for future reference. Has anyone successfully modified the wing to have removable outer sections?

From my old notes I don't find anything hear, but I did find a thread titled Ziroli 124, I did not go look at it so best I can tell you is on the RCU home page at the search box type in corsair and I think it will give you a list of all of the old threads, and yea I know it is time consuming and a pain in the @#$.
Maybe one of the other followers of this thread will pop in hear with better info
Hope this helps
Cheers Bob T
BTW sence I built mine I have had 2 HD's go bad and one mother board so I am missing a lot of the info I originaly gathered

I have a question concerning the lightening holes in the tail feathers, Once you cover and paint do you still see the holes through the fabric when light hits it the right way?

Joe When I built mine and put lighting holes in the elevators about the size of a quarter, When I covered them using the flat Monokote colors and regular white on the bottom no holes were visible
from the top side or the bottom. if you plan on using fabric and painting you should have the same results. hope this helps. John Taylor Corsair Brotherhood #96

A lot depends on the fabric, paint type's ie: rattle can auto, epoxy or water base, then the colors, primers, and primer color etc,.
When I built mine did the mono-cot thingy, the blue did not show the holes/ now if and when I ding it next I will most likely, glass the wood and cover the feathers with one of the stitc meterial's from AC Speciality's in Ca. I like the easy out so I use rattle can auto primers and Nelsons paints.
Hope this helps

Shaped, hinged, and set aside until I get some 1/64 ply for hinge hiding.
Any suggestions for what to use to make lightening holes for a nice, clean cut?
