+1 on the Forstner bits. I got mine at sears for $30 . Never realized how much I would actually use them. All the time. They work awesome on balsa and ply.

Just remember 1 1/2 times the thickness, edge of hole to edge of part on ply and 2 times on balsa, to maintain the woods strength

Scott
Thanks for the recognition, but I have only tried to help with what I know, and there a lot of the guys that have been on/in this thread that know more about the Corsair than I do, my link to the Corsair is from when I was a kid during WWll and they flew over our neighbor hood on there way to NAS North Island

I hope to finally get started on my Corsair this fall. I have a G45 and a G62 available to use - what is recommended and what prop size should I use.

I guess I should start by reading the previous 9357 posts - thanks in advance for everyone's help. This will be my first large warbird.

From what I have seen of the TFGS Corsairs flying, I'd recommend the G62 with a Xoar 22x10 prop for your best performance.

I am with Scott\, a 62, and watch your weight do every thing you comfortable with to keep to keep the weight down, you would like to be under 30 lbs .dry and ready to fly

Thanks guys! I had found it in the thread not long after the post. so far, this is moving faster than I anticipated. since I don't have retracts yet to make sure that I mount then correctly for gear doors, I went ahead and started on the fuse Saturday. This was as of last night.....

I also modified the profile of the Rudder to look more scale. I still have work to do on both the elevator and rudder, lightening holes and hinge hiders, but it's coming along very well.

Cjray how was the density of the control blocks? This was a issue on the ARF's and I made sure when I built mine that the blocks were sutable for the controls. Most of the so called ply blocks
were not what I call ply. I'm mostly old school and have been building for over 40 years. Your work is looking good. If you can even add lighting holes in the tail wheel box that would help.

John,
They seem good, not ply but a harder balsa it seems. I'll probably shoot some CA or epoxy in there to harden them up to be safe.
Thanks! I'm really trying to do my best and take my time. My one concern is trying to keep it light, while keeping the strength up. I sure don't want it light but weak.
I had read about the gear box, and figured when I grabbed some Forstner bits, I'd hit that area also.

On a side note, I'm up to page 337 now and don't recall seeing, this(could be b/c it wasn't made at the time I've gotten too), but has anyone used the DLE 60 twin? I plan on using the Fiberglass specialties cowl, but was wondering if it might fit. Quick specs say it might. I just want to keep whatever I use contained inside the cowl.

cjray I don't recall anyone using the DLE 60 Twin. I'm reading through the thread trying to find info on Static display props. I have the ARF version now and have a RCGF 60 cc single cylinder
engine in it. Haven't started it yet the weather is turning to rain so will wait till tomorrow on starting it. you can check out BP hobbies for the RCGF engine line. John Taylor Corsair Brotherhood #96

Drop Dave Schwirian at Scale Specialties a note regarding static scale props (and dummy radials if you need one) for your big Corsair. There ain't none better, IMHO.

Will do. So you like the RCGF 60? I'm not familiar with them. The last gasser that I had was a Predator Heli (Zenoah 26) a few years ago, the last Plane was a GP Wagstaff Extra around '04 with a Fuji 64.

Jason, Just spent the afternoon trying to get the engine ready to run. Have to redo the choke set up as there was no way to prime it. Best thing to do is run it on a bench test stand. For me I don't
have one available so have to run it in the plane. So will make a tube so I can get some fuel into the carb. John T. Corsair Brotherhood #96

Chad,

Do you have any recommendations for a reasonable cockpit kit for this plane? I'd like to try and fit something that is not the standard Top Flight ABS.

Started sheeting. I see what some have said about hard balsa. One front section did not want to fold over, but I finallyl got it laid down. Forstner bits should be here tomorrow, then I will hit the tail gear box before finishing the other side.

Jason, When you get ready to do the top block you could use some foam and shape it. Then use some thin balsa to cover it. Size thickness is up to you. On my ARF it's only 3/32 shaped to the
top. It will save weight. John T. Corsair Brotherhood #96

Nordics

If you have the T/F cockpit and some good pic's of the cockpit you could build your own, and you can find some great pic's R/L and instrument pnl in a mag called "Flight Journal", also the T/F unit could work as a place to start and a mock up for what ever you build.

Just some thoughts
