Did you built the Pete from David Andersen plans?

Hello all,
I see a lot of you keep messing with the hinges for the flaps as I did for a while also, they I got totally disgusted, fed up. I then decided to use Dubro large scale hinges and installed them where the plans called for the hingeline and solved all problems
and the really nice thing is they work beautifully and you can't see them

JUST MY $.02 WORTH

Ctflyboy you are correct, but they are not as scale as some would like due to the big gap when down, and the biggest problem is in the curved section, the main key was to keep the pivot line in each flap straight.
It took me 3 tries to figure it out, there was another Corsair thread that got me going in the wright direction at the time, and from what I remember Chad ??? don't remember the last name but he was the one that had the information.

Cheers from an old gezzer Bob T

My Corsair is shelved again for the time being due to other projects, but the actual hinges seems to me to be the easy part. The hard part is cutting and setting the joiners between the flaps to ensure smooth, even operation with little friction but also no play throughout all three. I'm not sure the type of hinge used makes any difference on that part of the puzzle.

Hi Auburn
You are partially right, the full size has hinge points below the lower surface of the wing and curved radiuses on the flaps and closure panels with a slightly different radius in the trailing edges of the wings, that gave the flaps the foller air flow effect when deployed, when the flaps are up there is a plastic rub strip that seals off the upper surface.
When I did mine I ended up making a drill jig for the wing and another for the flaps on my first bird I did them as per plan on the second I used a piece of .010 G-10 glass board in a fan shape that slid out of the inboard flap as they went down this closes off the gap between the in board flap and the curved center one, and it was a lot of massing around to get it to work right.
Now if I could just get rid of the meniere's deisease thing I would/ could go fly mine.

Default Crashed

Hi Guys

Crashed my Corsair this weekend! Hit a fence post and punched in the Lh wing.
I don't have my plans or book any more as it's been a few years since I built it.
Does anyone have templates of wing ribs that they could scan and e-mail me?
Counting from the outter wingtip inward I need 5, 6, 7. I know these are not the same numbers that are on the plan, but that's all I have to go by.
Or maybe some one knows if they are available on line somewhere?
Thanks
Tom

Robart gear door hinges may provide a similar movement. https://robart.com/collections/contr...ar-door-hinges

Maybe use a contour guage and copy the shape from the undamaged wing panel?

Hi, There is a copy of the construction manual for the kit which shows the rib profile.
Here's a link, it may not be exact and will need blowing up and changing into a vector file to be any use but it looks like it may be able to show you where the ribs are and their general layout.
Hope it helps

Thanks Chad, ya33a and rt3232

I printed the page with the ribs and will see if I can blow them up to the right size.
I have been building and flying for 30 years and usually make back up rib templates and saved all plans and booklets. But getting more lazy in my older years, plus I did a big clean up a few years back and recycled alot of paper.
I think I can manage to fix this beast. The tail assy was snapped clean off too. That has been a challenge ! But I think I have that part beat.

Big heavy warbirds are very unforgiving to pilot error or mechanical / electrical failures.
Smaller , lighter warbirds may be the next step for me.

Default Use of Robart Electric Retracts-Separate Battery?

Hi all-

I will be using Robart 148E and 160WCE electric retracts.

The control unit allows for a separate battery to power the retracts on signal from the receiver. It states it will accept voltage of 4.8-9.0 VDC.

Anyone had any experience with this?

Being a bit conservative I would like to use a separate battery and am asking what is typically being used, voltage and capacity.

Thanks-

Larry

Hi John-

Thankls for the response--

I thought a 2s LIPO would do the trick. What size LIPO did you use?

Default Retract question--right or left

Using Robart electrics--

If someone can advise which way should the retracts rotate (or which way should the oleos point) so I can figure right from left-

I kinda found a picture in the thread but could not blow it up.

It looked like the oleos should point toward the center of the wing.

Any help would be appreciated.

Larry, You are right the oleos point to the center of the wing. Had to check mine to be sure. John T. Corsair Brotherhood #96

Hey John (or anyone else)--What did you use to mount the retracts---wood screws or through bolts with a lock nut?

My wing is still open in that area so I can go either way and am therefore thinking seriously of through bolts.

Thanks-

Larry

Larry, I used the wood screws. Since your wing is still open go with T nuts and 6/32 bolts with a drop of loc tight. just make sure you secure the T nuts. It will make repairs easier if needed.
