Thanks Randyman - the saito 450 cetainly seems to have a good rep for reliability and performance.  If I can't find a proven solution with 7 or 9 cylinders, I think the 450 will definately be the one to go for with quoted power of over 40lb of static thrust . . . . that should be enough or I'll be in all sorts of trouble anyway!!!

Your welcome. I didn't realize you were looking for a 7 cyl. motor. That would be an issue for sure I think. They are just to large and big bucks as well.
Short of you building your own engine I don't think there is anything out there in a 7 or 9 cyl. engine that would be approprate for ths plane. Having said that I'm not sure but I think someone in this thread or another Corsair thread bought a 7 cyl that he was going to put in his so I would do a search on a couple of the other threads. If I come by it I'll post it here for you.
If this is your first Corsair I'd lean to a smaller radial fornowso you can at least get the hang of it and well you won't have to worry about 5 grand hanging out the front if takes a dirt nap.
If you can afford it though. go for it.
Just me two cents.

Randy

I don't know if this one can be a choice for you, Horizon have a new line of radial engine
this one [link=http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=EVOE777#quickSpecs]7 Cyl 77cc 4 Stroke Glow Radial Engine[/link]
is a 77cc 7 cylinders engine, they didn't mention about the static thrust but it can swing a 22x12 to 24x10, 2 blades
and the price is cheaper than the saito 450

Thanks Guys

Randyman, you're comments make perfect sense.  I'll have to see if sense can prevail!!   . . . It should.  and no,  I don't have huge funds I'll be selling some of my other planes to help finance this build over time.  I'll check out some other threads as you suggest - if you come by it  thats cool, thanks again.

duber3, thanks for that - they are the new UMS (Indian manufacturer recently, of Seidel engines) engines being sold under the Evolution name.

Flies well considering 36 lbs dry & rebuilding after breaking wing in two at the main gear.

Pure pilot error.
Let it get too slow landing, typical Corsair tail drop & too much power/torque too fast & rolled over at 4' altitude.

Buckmeister - I take your point about glow + radial = mess . . . but they do look and sound the absolute business!

Sam - I have a parcel cleared customs (they only wanted £30/$45ish duty before they would deliver, thes*ds). Looking forward to a delivery tomorrow, gotta be a tailwheel assy. I'll PM you soon as its here - thanks very much!!

Randyman, Thanks for this - I believe the currently available version of the Seidel engine is the UMS 7-77. I have been looking ata Seidel 7-70 or a UMS7-77, hoping either wouldbe a good choice and I thank you for your post! I think this is the way to go - now to check out price and availability - oh, and sorting out some funding!!

DaddySam, Tailwheel assy delivered this morning - THANKYOU, it is superb!

Oh well, onwards and upwards (with a controlled downwards of course!)

Your welcome but if you do decide on HobbyKing DON'T buy it if it is on back-order. You could be waiting a year and out a thousand dollars.
Ask how I know.

Hello to all. It has been about a year since working on mine. I put it aside till Down and Locked had gear for it. Last I spoke with them still not ready. I really hate air(it's a personnal thing). Does anyone know of anywhere else I can get something similar.
It's ready for covering and I'm getting the itch to finish it.
Thank's

After experiencing flutter during my last flight with her in June, I had to do some major surgery to (re)secure the horizontal stab to the fuse. Not really sure what happened, but I hope it doesn't happen again. so anyhoo, stab secured, now its time for the resurrection. Got lots to do. Going to repaint and detail, she's a great flier, and I'm lucky to still have her.

Hay Fili

If you have not covered the horizontal as yet, I woukd suggest putting 2, 1/8 dowels thru the center section, and one not on the center line

Cheers Bob T

Is there a design problem with the horizontal stab?
