Yea there are some things I want to put on and work with which makes it my build I didn't drill wholes in the kit to lighten if it was meant to do so it would be in the instructions and I want this bird as strong as I can get it I asked him about the idea and he just shock his head the old balsa wing is a killer to build he told me we could of formed it in foam an would of been done a long time ago. So I'm going Robart electrics 148e. They will have there own battery A Dle 55 and Xoaro 22x8 warbird prop.. This is an old school build compared to the materials used today and I will chress this build for many yrs to come an not let it go from my hanger from all the hard work an yes mike will maiden this an it will be air whorthy or adjust all good I love all on this sight I'll keep posted. I finally pulled the trigger and ordered a Corsair from Tower today. It will be a while before I start it though because i'm getting ready to start a BUSA N17 build.
Am I finally part of the Brotherhood?

Guys I'll get my video out as soon As possible on my build with the mAster builder mike Barbee we glassed the fuse with .7 ounce fiberglass and used zap finish reason. With a touch of MEK solution Lol he told me your making a plane not a surf board propping is the key. You must sand the fill. Light drywall patch we did the fuse in 2 evenings now just add a second coat an we are done check for bubbles and get ready to prime and paint hope to put this bird in our swap meet show in 3 weeks

I know the thread is for the Giant Scale F4U Corsair, but I am not ready for one..........yet.
I have read through most of the thread and love the wealth of info and love for the hobby.
I am in the process of building the smaller version.
About 60% done with building the Top Flite 60 size Corsair GE kit.
I will be using a DLE20RA for power and the
retracts are the Wingspan 100deg rotating electrics.
Cockpit kit will be started this weekend and hopefully a
full figure pilot will be coming in soon from Matt in Fairport.
I would sure like to join the brotherhood.

Thank you George.
I am very happy to be a part of the brotherhood.
Winter still has a grip on this neck of the woods.

Hi Andreas
Welcome aboard. I agree winter is a great time for building and your bird look great, hope to see more pic's as you progress.
I don't know how much snow you get but we have 57" so far and still have the month of marchto go, and I am ready for spring

Thank you for the welcome, Steve & Bob.
Lot's of work left on my F4U. Just finished the belly pan sheeting this afternoon.
I will be working on the flaps next week. This is my first kit build other than a C.G. Gentle Lady
in the early 80's
Waiting for .5oz fiberglass cloth to come in from Thayercraft next week.
I am planning on doing the glassing in the Minwax polycrylic method.
I got onto it by watching a youtube video how to by Randy Carranza "Pimp your ARF" part 6
It's all a first for me, but lots of good info and pictures available here.

That .5 cloth is pretty good, I got a roll of it last year and just did the wing of my Corsair this afternoon. Also doing the Polycrylic method and it goes quickly, and so very nice. Its ready to sand now, and apply a finish coat then ready to prime. I got my flaps and ailerons done last weekend. They are pretty cool how they work. I think tomorrow I will glass the fuse and get that done too.

How are you covering the rudder and elevator. In order to glass it, you would have to add sheeting. Right?
But even at 1/32" balsa sheeting each side, It will be 1/16" total thicker than the trailing edges of the stabs.
Will this be noticeable? Can I sand the leading edge of the control surfaces down to match with the trailing edge of the stabs
once the thin balsa sheeting has been applied?
Or are you using regular covering on the ribbed surfaces?
Trying to get my head around this.

Scott,
From my research, I gather that: Silane is generally stiffer than Volan and Silanes are usually clearer (I guess it won't matter
after it's primed and painted)
I have opted for Volan in my glassing. Lot's of compound curves on the Corsair.
I guess it is personal preference though.
I'll find out soon enough.
Which are you using acdii?
