Just PM ctyflyboy and he will give you a #, it is great to see some new builds going, I will offer this Keep it as light as you can, and remember 1 oz in the tail = 6 added in the nose, and post pic's and don't be afraid to ask questions or for help.

Thanks for the help guys. I found Chris and emailed him. He said that he's been asked many times for that canopy and guesses that he should make one, but doesn't and does not currently have the time to do so. So still looking around. My kit does not show up until tomorrow, so I've got a long time before I get to that point.

After my last post, I did receive another email from Chris with him saying that since I do not need one soon(and he thinks that he could sell them), that he may be able to get a canopy done for me down the road, so the Birdcage may be in business.
Thanks, Bob.

Are you planning on glassing your bird, I would recommend it, when I built mine I assumed it would be lighter by gong with mono-cote, well it is not. if I were to build another there are lots of places to save weight and I would explore them all, so if you have questions as you get started just ask,and you will get some great suggestions

Got the Stab framed, the fin framed and working on the elevators now, Any problem with me not sheeting them at the moment? I would like to hold off for a wile so I can make sure my framework is solid.

Joe that should not be a problem. you might want to take a Forstner bit and cut lighting holes between the elevator ribs. About the size of a quarter is what I used on mine. John T Corsair brotherhood #96

got my vertical stuff taken care of for the most part. The horizontal stab is also done. will be starting on the fuselage next. still trying to decide how I'm gonna make the top hatch. I'm thinking of installing some release pins inside the canopy rails so there won't be any visible attachment screws. then I just have to worry about how close of a gap I can keep. this will allow full access from the top of the fuselage interior.
Hey how do you get a number around here.

Reefmonster and all
A good rule of thumb for all wood's except plys, when putting in lighting holes, is edge of hole to the edge of the part is the thickness times 2, on plys 11/2 times the thicknes this will maintain the structural strength of the wood, also the holes edges should be smooth.
Next the hinge line's on the elevator and rudder are not scale and doing them like scale is really a good idea as it helps with eliminating possible flutter, and with a little research it is easy to do.
Some easy mods as you are building is the top of the rudder and the shaping of the wing tips, and if you use the index in post #1 the info is not to hard to find.

A bit of inspiration for you TFGS Corsair builders, particularly those wanting to do a birdcage. This is one done by scale competitor Chris Spangenberg quite a few years back. Hard to believe that is a TF kit! I asked Chris if the canopy plug he used was still available but, unfortunately for us, he built the canopy up from flat stock rather than molding it. The only molded part on his was the bulged panel directly over the pilot's head. Definitely reveals that their is some real potential in the TF kit for those wiling to do the work.

Chad, that looks great! Yep, that's pretty much what I'm going for. Thanks for sharing!
Well, that stinks on the mold, but hopefully things will work out and I can still possibly talk you into making that canopy.
On a side note, I've made it through the first 60 pages of this thread and think that i am suffering from information overload. There is some great info here!

Will do, Bob. I've followed the links to some of those other threads, in the pages that I've covered so. I originally did not want to get too scale, but the more I see the fantastic work that people have done, the more that I want to do the same. Too bad no one makes a folding wing kit.
Thanks, Joe. Now, I have to get building and get caught up with you.

Well I have had the last 3 days off so been looking in a bit.
Cjray there is a thread about a folding wing for this bird, but as I recall it made the all up weight above 35lbs and based on wing loading that is a bit much, my first one was at 32 and flew good on my G-62, my current one is at 30+ and flies great on the 62, but still land on the heavy side, So Like I keep preaching look at every thing to save weight with out loosing strength.

looking for a canopy for the royal 1/5 corsair. IMHO they look the part considerably more than the top flite one does. I may have to make one myself but I would like to acquire one of the royals just to see how it fits.

I have apparently joined the brotherhood of TFGS Corsair owners with the acquisition of a partially built airframe. Wing is primarily framed and looks well done and the tail feathers were started but have been damaged. The latter is a non-issue since I will put a scale tail on it anyway when the time comes. The rest of the kit appears to be intact and unstarted. I won't be doing anything with it any time soon but at least I have the kit to use for reference when I get started on that birdcage canopy plug!
