acdii,
that's partially why mine is on hold. I haven't bought those yet, and know I need them first, of course then I got hung up on other projects.
Been there, done that. My Corsair is on hold until there is warmer weather so I can put the KK on the latex. Ran a small test already so no issues with pulling or wrinkling, but the smell, OyVay, the Dope stinks the house up enough, the KK is twice as bad.

Steve,
On that "TRADING PLUS MEMBER" you have to list a credit card for that to take effect.

Anyone ever see this? First time I have. I've used west system for a while now and never had it happen. Apearently my hardener didn't seal very well and it all seeped out. Should have been half full, but empty. Wasn't that long either since I last used it, maybe 3 months.

I have had the pump clog up on the hardener, but never had it disappear.

Exactly. I've only had to clean the tube out in the past. Apearently I lost the seal last time I did so. The pumps are a few years old. Maybe they need replacing every so often. I would of had to buy more before I started glassing this plane any how, but the rest could have been used for laying up gear doors and hatches. That's what I was going to use it for today was the hatches. I ended up using z-poxy which is a first for me. I've used it for fiber glassing, but not for making hatches. We'll see how it comes out.

Are you guys using the blue Robart valve to run the mains and tail like a tri-gear setup?that seems to be the easiest way to me unless I'm missing something.

Steve
On the valve I am using the red valves, and one right out of the package leaked, sent it to Robart and I don't know if they repaired it or jus sent me a new one. But I would suggest pressure testing what ever you get. Also I have heard the valve from seara is better, but no first hand knowledge.

About the hardener my original can was 5 years old and was in my shop that never gets below 40 deg's and yes the top of the can did discolor, I have always wiped the last little drip off when I am done, and never had it plug up, but I do twist the cap on tight.
One other thing when it ages it did turn a bit pink, but seamed to work ok/

I have had to disassemble the hardener pump and flush it with acetone. The balls got glue into the top from lack of use.

I find the Z-Poxy works just fine for laying up hatches.

Like I said, I normally only use the z poxy for small repairs, and mainly use the West. But it seemed to work good for me. I'm getting whatever I can done to the fuse whilst waiting for the brown truck to arrive.

RT,
On the Zpoxy, you must not have mixed up equal portions,I use it all the time ,as a matter of fact this is what I used to do my gear doors, and they came out very good.

I hear you on the mixing , first problem was it turned to rubber, never got hard was making small cowl cleaned the mold up tried again measured by volume in separate cups put them together mixed for 5 min and still turned to rubber. got rid of the batch 9recycle center), picked up a new set from my LHS, same cowl mold so this time I measured by weight on a gram scale did get a cowl but when the engine got warm the cowl would go limp gave the rest of the set to a guy in the club, and the next spring he had moved some ware south/ I just made a new cowl with good old polyester no more problems a year or 2 later wanted to do some repair on some wheel pants made with epoxy, so got another Z-poxy kit was mixing small batches so using the gram scale set to oz's 1 oz of each and still did not work the way I thought it should switched ot west and have never looked back the beauty with west is there are different hardeners for cure times.

That's my story and I am sticking with it, but that all happened 20 years back.

+1 on the West Systems. I have made a few molds and cowls now with it, and have not had a single issue at all using that stuff. I have had epoxy turn to goo while still in the bottles, mainly the stuff from Tower, so I stopped buying it from them, the Z-poxy 5 and 30 minute stuff though, have not had any issues, and they are several years old by now. Also the Bob Smith (BSI) glues are holding up very well too.

Sign me up. I've had a TF Giant Corsair kit collecting dust in my shop for too many years now. Time to get it built!
I've been spending hours on this thread and on the ARF/Custom by MRadu. A lot of stunning work by some very talented builders on here.
Looking forward to the build. Right now I'm leaning toward a G62 for power.

Welcome Steve

On your choice of engines! I have a G-62 in mine and it flies great at 32 lbs, but not a lot of vertical, it does nice big round loops and all of the other maneuvers a real one does so no real complaints. From what I have been told the G-62 is old technology (mine is the magneto type) in the porting, so there may be a newer engine that produces more torque, an example is the RCGF-62 I have one but not enough time on it to really tell, it's in a 22 lb Weeks bipe and it goes like a rabbit in drugs.

Bob,

That G62 with magneto is also going into my F4U. It may be old but I've got three of them and they are reliable and bullet proof. I really like them. Plus they are a great choice when a person needs weight up front.

I keep looking at the EME 60 with electric start. But, if I also need the nose weight I may go with the school of old and use a G62.

Z I can't argue that I have 2 one in my T/F Corsair @32lbs and one in my T/F P-47 @ 30+ and I love them but the RCGF-62 if all goes well I think after 2 or 3 gallons of fuel thru it, it will be a good bit stronger the G 62 are swinging exor 22 X 8 at 6900 to 6950and I have tried about every type of prop, these seam to be the best for me. The RCGF-62 the same prop @ 7K to 7025 and a 23 X 8 # 6925 to 6950 and on the weeks I have the ground clearance, but will have to see how this engine hold up.
I have often thought about sending the one of my G-62's to Ralf C in AZ to have him work his magic like he did on my G-38 it was like a different engine when I got it back, don't have a clue what he did and don't really care but it was great, it flew my original week great till I dumm thumbed it, but it's weight was only 18+ the weeks I have now is at 24 I think so we will see.

cheers Bob T
