Bob, cograts on starting page 400! and thanks for the flap idea.
Steve, I ended up not using Chad's design since I already the tail group built. I never printed the actual plans. I think I took the rudder detail from the .60 thread and just scaled it to fit. Then cut the pieces from 1/64 ply.
I'm starting to think Zenoah has stopped producing the G62 EI engine. Mine has been backordered since March 16. I called Horizon and they have no idea when they might get them in. Today I noticed Chief Aircraft's website says "not available, no ETA". The magneto G62 is available. I find it hard to believe they can't get the ignitions for them…just leads me to believe they may not be making them anymore..which doesn't make sense to me.

Why not run the mag engine? I know its old school, but easier in my opinion. I may go that route. Bob, for flap hinges, I usually mount them towards the bottom of the TE angled upwards, and the same in the LE of the flap. I find you get the most range of motion that way. Is that what your talking about?

There is also a dle 85 that fits, and the Rcgf 60 both are of the new porting technology and some thing to think about

The EI engines are not shown on the Zenoah engine website either. I've used DA100 EI engines in my Cardens and I'm just use to the EI and easier starting. That's really the only reason I ordered the G62 EI.
Well I must have done something right. This evening I installed the 2 wing dowels and lined things up. Centered in the fuse saddle I have the same measurement from tip to tail. Next I got out the laser level. First (pic1) I made sure the fuse was plumb from 12 to 6 o'clock position and level from the 3-9 o'clock. Then I raised the level to meet the center of the wing tip (pic 2) Somehow, I don't know how… it's perfect tip to tip. Pic 3 is just because it's a cool pic
and NO…I'm not leaving the wing tips square !!!

Hey RT,
I need to jar your memory, sometime back you made reference about balancing the Corsair something about an inch forward or back of the CG stated on the plan,if
you still have that info, could you share it once again.
Thanks in advance,

Hi George
You bet, The manual calls for 5 3/4 aft of the leading edge at the fuse. What I found with my first bird was it flew but was real tuchy, and as you know I lost it on the second flight due to engine failure at the end of a hi speed pass.
So when I built my current bird I put the C/G at 5 1/8 aft of the leading edge and after several flights I moved it back to 5 1/4 and that is ware it is to day and it flies great, with every thing dialed in, but I still have 1 click of up elevator, 10 % rudder mix with the ailerons, and 5 % down elevators with full flaps that make you work the glide slope on final.
Hope this helps
Cheers Bob T

George its flying season
I have managed to get out twice with my hog and my new extra 300 to get the thumbs working. Weather and my days off have not been working together so been spending a LOT of time in the shop trying to get my Corsair ready to paint, now ready for color,
One other thing IF I were to do it over again I would use a palm sander on the wood to get rid of more of the slight miss alignments etc
Cheers Bob T

Bob,
Your are right it is the flying season.
I remember when I was sanding my bird ,I got so frustrated I went Home D. and bought a mouse sander,
Just the other day was at Wal-Mart and saw a mouse sander with a dust pick up wish I had that when I did mine.
Here's an update
I am getting real close to the maiden flight, I got to add 2 lbs.of lead to the front end and I'm right on with a little nose down.
I remember telling Steve G. got to add 1 lb. did that just by feeling the lead, boy was I off, with the custom exhaust I did, I'm cutting lead strips to fit in between the
exhaust ports then I'll epoxy the strips and bolt it in,then I need to add my kill switch, then run the engine and seeing this is a new engine I will run 3 to 4 tanks through it
before it goes up

Hay George don't remember if you soft mounted it like the manual, so what I have done is replace the plywood in the soft mount with a pice of 7/16 cold roll plate cut to match the old ply piece, It weighs just over 2lbs and with the new cast dummy radial I will have to add some tail weight, then I will pull the engine and the plate and drill holes in it to match the weight added to the tail, by doing it this way I don't have any extra weight and due to the mass of the plate it dampends the vibs to the air frame buy a lot, and when you tighten the soft mount bolt's it is almost a solid mount any way. and for the kill switch I use the trainer switch programed to pull the throttle to fully closed. at this point I expect to lighten the plate by 1/2 lbs , but wont realy know till I can do a balance test.
No extra bits to give me fits
Cheers Bob T
Ps run that engine till you can get 6,800+ to 7 k rpm's on a 22 x 8 prop

Steve, we now seem to be at the same point in our builds. Only difference is, i have to build mine from scratch. ( along with about half this kit.) I just hope its all worth the effort and she flies like a corsair.

well Steve and Steve
Just keep working on them a bit every day and all of the sudden they will be done, I am hopping to have my rework on mine done by fall, I will be using Nelsons paints as they are vary friendly, will be spraying all of the seams and gaps with a lite coat I then plan on reassembling it and then do the paint, So we will see.
cheers Bob T

Making slow progress here. Ive been working on the tail blocks and finishing up the back end. The rudder is pretty much complete. I didnt end up going with the scale rudder mods for a couple reasons. 1, i dont care to have to rebuild the rest of the stabs to match, and 2, i came to the realization that im not going to have all the scale details i wanted. This was an already started kit that i picked up for cheap. I wanted a sliding canopy, but it just doesnt make sense at this point in the build to try and have that. So, in short, Im going to finish this bird up, fly it, and build another, incorporating every thing ive learned along this journey and building in all of the details i would like to. Up next, flaps.

Slowly chipping away at the flaps. Got the two inboards and the two outboards built, but not yet finished. I still need to glue on the top skins but am waiting till the center panels are done and the three are connected weather its by wire, as per the plans, or by plywood. Still undecided there. I know George,(Ctflyboy) used ply and i liked the way it looked. much stronger and more reliably than the wire, although i never had any issues with the wire on the smaller TF Corsair.
