Chad, if Bob wasn't able to help with the fuse plans I can make a copy of mine and send it to you. Let me know.

And Steve when you have a really difficult question about a Corsair Chad is the man to go to, as he has done a lot more research than I, But If I have had the same problem and I know a good answer I will try to help

well the flaps are have a strange effect...my hair is falling out...but that could be from me pulling it out.
I made up and wing trailing edge from scrap and cut some piece of stock to mimic the flaps leading edge but I'm not sure if what I have is going to translate to the actual air frame.
Bob, using you template and drill guide did you drill ALL the flap holes this way or just the middle section? The full scale looks like the middle flaps section is hinged this way but not the inboard/outboard. Obviously getting lots of deflection on the those is easy..it's the middle section that's tough and then to make them work together,,,,,
I'm going use the wire to actuate the inner/outter until I get it right then enlarge the hole for a ply disk.

Steve
From all of the info (books) on the corsair they all have extended hinges the inboard and outboard are like blades at the ends of the sections the center are also extended but those have a cover's on them as they stick down a bit farther. So for me what I did was use Robart hinge pins and I did use the jig on both the wing and the flap sections, the other thing I found on mine was on the center section lower radius had to be shaped different much larger right in the center of the curve to get the deflection to match the others.
Because the closest full size bird was more than a 1000 miles I was not able to get pictures to help as I built, so I relied on the info I had and just addlibed it to get them working and a down angle of 45 degrees
Be sure you anchor the wire on one end, if it is floating it can give you fits. Now due to 2 computer failures and no back up I have lost a lot of notes/pictures, but I will share with you all that I can.
For the disk I would recommend some styrene sheet stock on one end as it flexes better, just my thoughts
I will get the wind down and thy to get you a picturs

I spent a lot of time today hinging the left side flaps. I don't have to tell anybody here...lots of measuring, fitting, sanding, swearing..oops.
Anyway, the center section free falls about 60 degrees by it's weight. The inboard and outboard flaps are easier and drop 90 degrees.
I'm assuming 60 degrees will be more than enough flap deflection. I haven't tied the flap sections together yet but that is next. I only sheeted one side of the flaps so that it's easier to make that connection between the three and see how and where I need to make adjustments.
The right side flaps should go much much quicker now that I have everything figured out.
all in all...I good afternoon in the hanger.
Steve

PS.. I went back and cut a slot in the inboard and middle flap section and fit a piece of ply. I just tack glued it to the middle flap to see how it worked.. then i tried it tacked to inboard flap only. I'm not sure which flap should be fixed and which floating yet. Still tinkering. Since the full scale had no connection between the middle and outboard flap I'm thinking about just going with a piece of wire per plans for that side.
Any thoughts on this idea?
thanks

Hi Steve
I would say that's a fair plan, but remember just the inboard flap is driven and I think all you need is 45 deg's with all of them. That is what I get on mine. That said the web should be fixed in the inboard flap and the wire fixed in the middle flap.
I know your a long way from flying, but when I go to full flaps I have about 5% down elevator programed inand never with more than 1/2 throttle. Just something to put in your note book

that's what I was thinking Bob. I'm going to tack glue all 3 flaps in that manner and see how it works. How well do they work with control horn positioned per the plans? I was thinking an external control horn might be a better idea.

Steve, On the Top Flite Giant ARF the drive the flaps from the outer panel. and the center and inner are free.
I built the giant kit and hooked it up from the inner flap it worked ok but not as free as in the ARF. just thought I would mention it. john T. Corsair Brotherhood #96

Yeap and I think on the new kits there is a supplement sheet that tells you to do is that way. Mine is the old school way and with a lot of P&^%ing around mine work fine

it is kind of late for that since the wing is sheeted and built per the plans but it wouldn't be too much to add a hatch at the outboard flap.

HI ALL
I've come up with a problem with the cockpit detailing.it seems the inst panel from IFLYTAILIES is way to wide to fit this kit any suggestions would be great.

I have the same panel. I haven't tried to fit it yet but when I first go it I did hold it up to the cockpit and thought "wow, thats a lot of trimming".
I'll have to go back and look but I think MRadu used it in his ARF to scale project. Not sure if anybody else has used it.

Edit:
MRadu did use it in his TF ARF. Check post #8. In fact the entire thread is full of good ideas.

I used the T/F cockpit with a lot of modes, and when I saw the Iflytalies at Toledo I was amazed but as I remember you had to tell them kit or arf. the guy that had the cockpit down pat was Donny subackus (spelling) don't know if he is still in the member list but it would be worth a tryif you realy want a scale one.

But my memory is not what it used to be.

so Good luck cheers Bob T

ugh...that wouldn't be good. Their website only list 1/5 scale and 1/4 scale panels for the Corsair.
I got mine out the box and kind of held it in position. I think it will fit but it will take some trimming. I still haven't cut out the cockpit floor yet.
I just eyed they shape of the fuse vs the shape of the instrument panel.

If you guys are not in a huge rush I can probably make up a run of instrument panels to fit the TF Corsair. They are not as detailed as the IFLYTAILIES offering but they won't be near as expensive either and they will be the proper scale. Below is one I made for the Ziroli Corsair and the TF version would look the same. Patience will be necessary though as I am swamped at the moment. If I can get half a dozen buyers or so I would be happy to put them on the schedule.

Thanks guys for your suggestions..I got an email back from Iflytailies with a suggestion of using a set of instruments with a panel cut to suit my measurements which sounds like a plan.I've also contacted Chad V about his products and i'm waiting to here back.

I just measured mine and it's 6 3/4" at it's widest point and according to Iflytalies website that is their 1/5 scale panel.
Chad, thanks for the offer. It's a very good looking panel but I already have one and as you mentioned...it was not cheap! I'm going to try to make it work though it will be awhile until I get to fitting the cockpit pieces in place.
