I think that's the approach I'd like to take. The wing is fully sheeted right now, so I'd rather not open the bays in that area just to put Coverite on there. I like the idea of doing the glassing, tape off the area for fabric, then apply fabric and perhaps some simulated pinking? Thanks for the responses, guys!

I haven't seen a real Corsair in so long that I can't recall if the fabric is level with the skin, or if its on top of it.

Swamped, last night I had a rational moment thinking about my build of 20years past. What I actually did was to put the tapes in place and THEN glass the entire wing. There was some filling to do to the glass right where it spans over the tapes but it was relatively easy to accomplish.
By doing the glass over the tapes there was no need to worry about a border around the fabric.
Full scale plane has the fabric level with the wing surface.

These pics of the Museum of Flight FG-1D were provided to me by a friend. If you would like the original photos in much higher resolution they are available for the asking. [email protected]

well it's been awhile since I posted any progress but a lot has been made. Tonight I began to glass the fuse...finally!
I also put a deposit on a new aerobat being designed by Dennis at Carden Aircraft. It will be a 120" Extra 330s Pro.
Bigger than the discontinued 40% 330s and smaller than the 124" 300 Pro... and a 1 place canopy vs 2 place as on the 300 Pro.

well if your weather is anything like ours, you may be putting it on hold as our flying season is getting started, we are getting some nice weather over the next week or so, ( that is if you can believe the weather forecasters )
But keep up the good work.

Way too wet up here, it will take several weeks before the ground firms up enough to drive up the runway.

Those aluminum Robart door hinges. I either have too much gap when they're closed or they hit the wing sheeting when trying to swing open.
Thinking about trying a simple flat hinge but don't see how that will solve my problem.... I'm missing something

If you have access to rcscalebuilder try this link to the forum https://www.rcscalebuilder.com/forum...51&PN=1&TPN=29
Worked for my doors.

I used the flat plastic hinges, hot gluer (just enough to hold them in place) some temp stops for the doors when closed used 2 hinges per door and a long pin for alignment they are not scale but I have had no problems with them, and if I was ever to do another I would have to do a drawing or two to figure out ware and hoe to use the off set hinges as in the full size.
when I built mine if I had known about RC Scalebuilder
Hope this helps and if you need a picture I might be able to get a couple or 2 from my old file

That is probably the best write up I have seen for gear doors. If you don't install them in the correct orientation, then you will be frustrated beyond all hope trying to make them work. Did something similar last night on my Rascal, tried putting a hatch in using gear door hinges, could not make them work, mainly due to using 1/8th" balsa. I wound up using CA hinges instead, worked just as good for it's intended purpose, but would never work for this.

thanks... good info in that one. It may be that I dont have enough "overhang" of the wing sheeting. I add ply before sheeting the wings to box the wheel well.
I tried to do it following this thread.
https://www.rcscalebuilder.com/forum...35&PN=1&TPN=41

I tried them as they come from Robart and also turned around like they did on this build. Also part of the problem is the curved shape and the hingers operating on 2 different planes. I loosened them up but I'm still not getting it.
On the bright side the fuse is ready for panel lines... it's looking pretty good.
thanks for the tips

You will have to cut an opening in the wheel well ply where the hinges go also open the gap in the hinge slightly. It took a couple evenings of fiddling but, works nicely once you nail it.

I ended up using flat hinges and the doors work quite well. Right now I'm fabricating the operating mech. Copying the mouse trap type wire method as others have done. Should have them done and the wing ready for primer by the weekend. Then panel lines and finishing. woohoo

I made a hatch on my Rascal and used the CA hinges. The sheeting is 1/8" so they worked fine, and was able to open it up past 90*. I was surprised at how close I could make the seam doing it this way so think I will give that a try when I get back to the Corsair.

I have been following this one for a while! Count me in! This will hit the bench as soon as I have all of the desired mods mapped out.

Dino when you get started don't be afraid to ask questions as some of us old geezers might be able to help.

Good luck with your build

DINO That is a nice looking bird, Don't remember the name , but a few years back there was a rebuild of one at Oschush, we got to see it fly and it seamed the be a nice flying plane.

Cheers Bob T
