Hi P47flyer

looks to me like you have most everythig under control, those pic look great, I don't know much about your engine except it looks good and that ring manafold is vary cool, will you be rounding the fire wall off to provide better air flow?

Glad it helps Bob. As you see, nothing special in my video skills....There's also a tutorial in there on how to get around a messy shop room as you see[].

Love that Saito setup above there. Looks very nice. I've heard good things about this plane and engine combo. Nice Keleo exhaust ring. Cooling will be interesting for you I think. Have to probably figure out some way of ducting incoming air and getting rid of it. I like Bob's et al. idea on the firewall for you to get some space between the cowl flaps and firewall itself. This is probably the most effective and scale method of getting it done. Will the rocker covers fit in the cowl?

Rockers fit, but tight. I can remove about .100" from each for clearance but I'm leaning toward opening the cowl a little. It will not be noticable with cowl flaps open and will aid cooling air exhaust. I also like the radiused firewall idea.

P47flyer

What brand of cowl are you using?? In my search to hide my G62 I found that a Fiber Glass Specelity's there old stile was about 1/4 larger in dia. from just aft of the ring all the way back, than a stans cowl, and I have been told that the new FGS cowl made after Jan/ 2006is the larger size only with cowl flaps.

Just thought this info might help

Hello All,

Well, after tinkering with the gear doors and getting a little frustrated I decided to "back-burner" it for a while instead of forcing myself to continue and really messing things up. Got back at it and after a little more tinkering I seem to have something that works This is the one side and after a little cleaning up I think it'll be just fine. Applying what I learnde on the first side to the second it's going smoothly (so far) and should have both up and running soon. Here are a few pics and maybe a short vid, if it'll upload, of my gear door so far.

Cheers,
Dave

ps, thanks again to this thread and the helpful folks here. I wouldn't have even attempted this without everyone's help.

hhhmmm, can't seem to upload on this site. If interested go to http://www.calmdays.com/showthread.php?t=334 vid is uploaded to that site already.

[sm=thumbup.gif][sm=thumbup.gif] Nice job David. It's not a real fun task to go through, but the end reward is pretty good when you see all the doors dumped down there with the wing on. I saw fiddling with the mechanical hookup there vs. a servo driven one as a time killer, so just need to pick up some of the higher power mini jobs now......Looks like another thing to get at Toledo!!

Boy were you ever right about making jigs for the flaps, after messing them up and having to insert dowels and drill again, but, I did get them on the 2nd attempt.
All I got left to do are the middle flaps .

Bob, I'll have to get some servos first before I take some shots, so yes, let's meet at Toledo, and I'll let you see firsthand what I'm using .....we can even make fun of George when he's not there I sent you a PM about it.

Bob speaketh the truth about the jig not being just any of various lively dances in triple time, or a fishing lure with one or more hooks George.[sm=thumbup.gif]. Glad you got 'er dun.

It's alright Bob, George knows what's good for him. I'm most certain the arm twisting I would apply to him would result in a hefty amount of damage to his pocket book.[X(] I've already been a bane to his checkbook I'm sure. But then, I'm not aware of you having a dark-side fighter yet either......so there's always hope!! I fear the worst for my own pocket book should there be say a SisT D version FW on display there. My GI Joe and vintage toy liquidation sale isn't going to get me quite that far.....have to bust out the Johnny West set to reach that one......ebay here I come!

Hay guys

I hope you did not think I was twisting arms I haven't met you yet, that comes later, It is a great show but if it was any farther we probably would not go 10 to 12 hrs depending on trafic in chi town is all this old man can take any more in any vehicle.

According to Yahoo driving directions, its approx. 701 miles & a 10 1/2 hour ride, [] providing there are no detours, but, knowing my driving habits the way I do,

I'm going to leave right now (hehehe)

Wulf, I'll pick you up on the way

Good morning George

Well I am not holding my breath for those pic But I am looking fwd for them, the main thing is to have fun with your hobby, even thow ypu will and do make some bleeeep coments along the way , when the project is done, there is that warm feeling and that strange earge to fly that sucker

Clad to hear your flaps came out ok on the secound try, on my first corsair. as I remember on the right side I did them about 31/2 times befor I finaly got them stright and in the right place. Thats when I decided to make jigs for the rest.

Just about finished with the second gear door set-up. This one is much cleaner because I'm not going through so much experimentation. Fabbed up all the pieces, installed, filled the air tank and gave it a go. Surprisingly went very well , a little tweaking and all should be good. Will post some pics tonight or maybe tomorrow.

Cheers,
Dave

Hi Guys.
Finally, I can honestly say the flaps are done not pinned with the wire, that will get done in the next day or so, once I get to that I'll be able to post some pics.
Then I guess it's time to mount the retracts and run the air lines, WORK ON THE GEAR DOORS

George

Lot's of variables for this feeble brain to figure out. Finally after 3 weeks of tinkering got it to work out. The other side was done in about 2 days As you can see from the pics, it's a lot neater than the first side so I'll go back and tidy things up a bit. On the "gear-up" cycle, there is something binding slightly still. On the "gear-down" cycle, they're a little slow for my taste but, I'll get those issues worked out and life will, once again, be good.

Short vid can be seen here. http://www.calmdays.com/showthread.php?p=1514#post1514

Cheers,
Dave

Go Dave, Go Dave, Go Dave [8D]. Looks like you guys are pushing me to do a mechanical linkage instead as it's so well documented here now on the thread between you guys. Still like that servo idea as the 3 week time frame is what I see ahead of me on fiddling with that linkage unless I do servos.... then it's like 3 days.[] Good work David. I bought some Dubro wheels a long while back, and have been settling into replacing them with aluminum ones now that I've done all the other stuff....especially after seeing George's. Yet another thing to pick up at Toledo on Saturday......more and more $ []
