Tom,

Are you building the Giant or the 1/8 scale. I think the epoxy stopper would be to large for the 1/8 scale. What are the black ones on the wing. Now I get it so I'm going to go for it. I'll order the stuff I need from Wingspan Models Monday. Now I have to hunt for things to use in place of the epoxy bottle stoppers. The clear plastic pop bottle idea for flat lense covers is a good one. I guess I can even make round bubble lenses by heating the plastic up with my heat gun over something the shape I want. I'll probably make the molds out of balsa. I could also do this in place of the bottle stoppers.

Thanks Tom,

Barry

Tom,

Do you have any more of the epoxy bottle stoppers? I think I could use them in my 1/8 scale. Plus if you don't mind send me the lights in the colors I'll need if you have them. As you can see I'm in the holding pattern now until I order and receive my light setup from Wingspan. Heres where I'm at on the build.

Thanks,

Barry

First flights went well. At 34lbs dry it is a sled landing. No graceful 3 points with this bird. With full flaps let it get slow and it becomes a rock. No snap, no aileron softness, no warning, just drops straight out. The Saito 450 performed outstanding with the Solo 3 blade!!!!!!!!! Only downside is the prop torque is tremendous (aside from cranking 50 oz of fuel on board). Lots of rudder and gentle rpm increase on the take off roll is a must. Sound of the prop & engine is worth all the aggravation. Ring exhaust by KELEO works great.

Not right now. I need to scrounge up one more for the 3rd formation light.

cimara,

I'm not sure what your talking about. Post a picture so I can visualize it! Are you sure you don't want any of those angles?

Thanks,

Barry

this is the flash light if you take the end off you get the reflectors the small items in the pics mag lights are expensive so i would use the cheap rip offs of them they even come with leds and color lenses Wish i knew about those angles 3 weeks ago when i orderd 20 machiinest squares from enco but i ll pass this time thanks though the small one is about 1/4 inch indiameter the big ones is about 1/2 inch

P47flyer your Corsair look very good, do you have video off this beauty, so we can heard the sound off that motor.
I saw a video off a Zero with a Saito 170 the sound off that engine was awsome, so I imagine that the Saito 450
would be awsome too!!!!

nice plane you have, I'm finishing mine, and I'm very hurry to fly it!!

P47FLYER..I am wondering if you ran out of elevator....I forgot to mention in my test flight critiques..I had to increase the throws on all of my control surfaces...the published throws on the plans are way off... for instance up elevator is now 1-1/4 up and 1" down...ailerons are 1" and that is still a very slow roll..the rudder is set on my futaba 9C on the three position switch...first position takeoff is 1-1/2 right, left and... third position is 3" for taxi on the ground.....most of all is the elevator throw with a nose heavy airplane you need all the up you can get for the flair..do you think this will help it did for me...RCPILOT78

It's possible, but it appears to be nose heavy with fuel still onboard. I still had plenty of elevator left, it just quit flying.I'll move cg aft a little & try it again.

Treasure Hunt,

I went all over Janesville to finally get everything I think I need except the light system itself. I got the mini maglites and the key chain flash lights. I only could get .050 styrene but I'll use it for the box to house the landing light and chrome cone. I'll add 1/16" balsa backplates inside side of the wing and countersink the .050 styrene for the other wing lights. I'll just see how good I am at making circles, any thought's? I used the thick plastic package that the mini maglites came in for the rounded wing LE shape lense over the approach light. I need to make it shorter but with very little heat it took and kept the shape of the wing. With very tiny phillips head screws to hold it down it should look very scale. I will make a thin brass frame and paint it around the outside where the screws go. I think it will look OK.

Thanks to cimara and SMUGator for the idea's,

Gibbs

Oop's,

For some reason I doubled one picture and several didn't even show up. Well I'll show you when I'm farther along with the lighting system. Any more ideas let me know.

I added a little 1/8 ply reinforcement at the back of the LE where I hollowed it out for the approach light as well.

Here are a couple of additional photos. According to the Detail and Scale book, it's a whip antenna.

I am sheeting my wings. I am having a hard time with the portion covering the forward part of the top. It is the piece covering the front part of the retract again on the top of the wing. My only thought is to make a piece and put it on at a 45deg angle like the rear portion.
