The guy who has made cowls is in this thread. I got one from him last fall. Read backward in the thread and you will find him. He lives in Virginia.

What size engine do you think is the best for this plane? The field I fly at is not real big so have to keep the speed down. I started mounting a DLE55 but my son is having problems with his so I might change to a different engine. What about ZP38?

The DLE 55 would be too much engine for this airframe. It would shake it to pieces before too long. This plane is NOT built for the vibrations of a large single gas motor, and the 55 is a shaker.

I flew mine today with a DLE 35. It was PLENTY of power and speed, which I am sure will get better as the engine breaks in. I like fast warbirds and this was definitely not slow!

It took 10 oz of lead on top of the engine standoffs to balance the plane.

My H9 P-47 150 has a DLE 55. Even though I must agree that the DLE55 is more engine that this plane actually needs, itis a perfect balance with the DLE55 and does not need all the extra weight on the the plane to balance out. Another member at my flying clubg has a DLE55 on his P-47 too, but his has been fiber glassed. We have a small flying field so flying a 150 size with a DLE55 is not a big challenge keeping the plane in the boundaries and speed is not an issue since you can control it by the throttle. I say stick with the DLE55 if you have it and can get it setup past the issues you are having but a 30cc-35cc will fly it just fine just need a good deal of weight on the front. I have also flown my P-47 with a OS 160FX and it had plenty of power for it.

I too wish H9 still made the 150 P-51. I have the Version 1 with a Saito 200TI and it looking great in the sky.

I fly out of CCRC in Acworth, GA if you want to see our field dimensions.

Good luck on which ever engine you choose.

I have a set of struts, I didn't use. The guy I got the from said they were replacements made by Sierra.
They come with the retract servos. If you have an interest email me at [email protected]

I think it's the Robart 150's, but it's been more than 8 years since I bought them.

I am. Sold my first one with a OS 160 FX that was in great shape. Purchased a used one in rough shape. New one has a DLE 55 and I fly it as a practice flight before I take up my nicer giant scales

Sold mine to a friend. He flies it regularly. Original engine (Evo 35cc) and Robart retracts. Fantastic plane.

Picked up a second set of retracts with servos and wheels and have the mold for a replacement cowl done, and putting the repaired one back on. Just need to rebalance the plane, tune the engine and ready to fly again! This time no trees or trailers near the runway so I can avoid that hanger by a great distance, no more roof flips for me.
