Recommedatioin for Fw190-D9 1/5
Dear all fellow scale modelers,
Can anyone please give som leads on a project for a 1/5 scale Fw190-D9? I am aware of the meister 1/4, but is just a little bit to big for my car, the local airstrip and mu budget. At the moment I am leaning towards the David Platt 1/5 A8, but i think i remeber seeing something about a Platt 1/5 D9 as well, but I can not find it listed any where.
If anybodu has any information for a project like this it would be most appreciated.
Thanks very much!

oistein,
The Dave Platt design of the Dora, later marketed by Pica, is a 1/6th scale with a 65" wingspan. He does offer a 1/5th scale design but it is of the A / F model. Vailley Aviation also offers an FW 190 but like the Platt offering it is not a Dora version. Gee, does someone else here besides me hear a "need"?

Oistein--I was in the same boat, looking for a 1/5th scale "short nose" version---SisT will be coming out with one---I've talked to Stephan, the fuselage plug is nearly done, and molds should not be far off for the D9 in 1/5th scale.
Please check out his current model--it will give you a very good idea of the level of detail (incredible). The wing, and I believe the tail is essentially identical to that shown on the "A-8" version. I'd estimate similar pricing to the "A-8" also.

Oistein, If you want a great flying Dora, step up to 1/4 scale and get a Meister! Meister Scale models will literally fly the pants off of anything else around. They are not dead scale, but unless your a Scale Masters Judge, most folks would never know the difference. Also, they have a commanding presence on the ground and in the air! They have a 102" wingspan with a 2 peice wing...a 51" wing panel isn't hard to get around at all, of course the fuse is a different story, but it can be built with detachable horizontal and vertical stabs to make storage and transport much simpler. Also, they are EASY to build, an average bulder can have one framed up in less than a week. As for detail, that is up to you...as much or as little as you want. Meister Scale airplanes have held their own at Top Gun, etc. If you want to check them out go to www.aero-sports.com/aarc/ or www.meister-scale.com/index.html . Meister Scale was recently purchased by Dino DiGiorgio owner of Aero Accessories, hence the 2 web sites...Dino has some great products to compliment the Jug as well such as new retracts that are excellent!

My first choice would have been the Holman, but I ended up getting the IMP. I'll be starting building as soon as my builder's manual arrives. You can follow my build online at our neighbor, RCSB, under "other kits".

Hi Rob!
Great looking Meister FW. I just acquired a very nicely finished one from E-bay last month. I surely agree, the model has tremendous presence.
My model came with Spring-air gear and a G-62 for power. I'm planning to replace both. Can you tell me what gear you are using and how well they are working for you? I'll be flying off a grass field much like yours.
I'm leaning towards a GT-80 for power. Should just fit in cowl with cowl flap slightly deployed and weight will be just right for CG.
Thanks.
Lynn

Hi Lynn, Thanks! Yeh the Miester's are sweet birds for sure! I have a Quadra 75 in mine, and it flies the heck out of her! A GT-80 would be great too if it fits? As for gear, I have the older CJM's on this one. CJM will retro fit the new down link for I think it's $75 I just haven't gotten around to pulling these out and sending them in, maybe next year if I can afford it? You know, with all the crap you hear about CJM gear I still think that they are fine. I've had them in well over 20 warbirds and have never had a problem that wasn't my own fault...i.e. a not so delicate landing with a heavy cross wind...kinda put's a lot of stress on them!

Thank you all for the great response.
Conclusion are that I will try to get hold of price and availability of the Bob Holmann kit. I will try to order one in advance so on my next visit to the us i can take it with my. Shipping these things to Norway is expensive and then they want 25% VAT for it.
Anyone in knows it there are any retailers for it in Texas, around Houston area? Or do I need to order one directly from Bob Holman plans? Anyone has any idea of the price for the kit?
To you all suggesting the SiST model, yes it is a fantastic model. A friend of mine flying out of the same airfield just got one out of three who made to Norway. He had to wait about a year for it though. I have´t got time to wait for the Dora, plus I would like to buld during the coming cold winter we have over here.
Thanks again folks.
