Default Will build for food!

Gentlemen, It seems as if I've got some extra time on my hands lately as I'm only partially employed as a substitute teacher for this school year. Therefore, with building talents and desires galore, I thought I would see if anyone needs a builder for a warbird project they might not have time to work on.

Anyone who has been around the site a while will know I'm a trustworthy fellow. Building fees are respectively modest depending upon the level of finish desired for the plane. A few of my recent planes are in my gallery. I've got experience with everything but jets and choppers. I would prefer frame-up jobs up to ARC or ready to paint condition, but will entertain anything you've got, big or small. I also live in the Midwest making it a little easier for final delivery of the craft.

Each project is different in what it needs and takes to finish, PM me if you need something.

Mike

I have an F14 Great PLanes prop plane , would love to have it built to the covering stage only .
I would ship the kit to you with
servos , engine and retracts .
I would like a quote on finishing to the ARC stage with radio and engine and retracts installed to
the 17517 zip code in Pa
Please include shipping
If its cheaper to build and ship with the tail assembled but not attached then that can be an option .
Thanks
Lou

Default RE: Will build for food!

Thanks gentlemen for the replies. The last plane I put together was a Skyshark 109E for which I did a builder's diary here at RCU. This should give you a very good idea of what I can do with a simple kit. Search "Wilfried Balfanz Skyshark 109e" and you should find it. Following along on the dates for the posts also gives you an idea of how quickly I work through certain aspects depending on finish.

I've also built from plans, done composite kits, full balsa kits, ARF's, pretty much everything

I could probably easily do most kits to ARC stage for a few hundred bucks, working out details from this standpoint. Bigger ones or larger kits a little more probably. I can get a plane to covering stage pretty quickly and it will be both light and straight with the appropriate glues used in the right places, no corners are cut.

My main goal here is for anyone to think it's a good deal as I'm aware that most guys who have these planes will have the skills needed to assemble them, maybe just not the time, which I have more of now. I don't really know what other's charge, just kind of thinking what I would need to keep it at the level of a good deal for everyone.

I would even build as a "swap" for 1/5 scale warbird stuff, so if you've got extra stuff laying around that is interesting, and you need a plane finished, I would consider these options too as opposed to straight cash for a build as long as value might be appropriate for the task at hand.

I'll try to answer any posts through PM and post any broader issues about skills or abilities here on the thread. One thing is for sure. I know that there can be "the dance" that a guy can go through for something like this...."I'm going to get to it tomorrow", "This got in the way", "Waiting on this part".....it can go on and on. I am very good about updates, would insist upon keeping myself and the owner informed and can make consistent progress to avoid discouragement for all involved. As I become aware of any issues in a build, I would pass them along.

As I've been just a regular guy in the hobby, I've only built a few planes for other guys. But, all have been satisfied with the result. I would like to be modest as I know some really excellent craftsmen out there, so will only say that I have received many compliments on the planes I've built. I've been building stuff since I was 14, and at 38 now, I've got a good amount of building experience (25+ planes) and still some energy to do it. Thanks again for those who are asking.

Kind of an aside for a bigger project, but fun I find, is to keep a photo file of the project and set it to music in a slide show at the end of the build. Pretty easy to throw in a slide show set to whatever music you would want from the project as a little "extra" at the end to show the buddies at the field on the DVD player in the van.

I had no idea so many guys need stuff built! Thanks again for the messages guys. I'm trying to keep up. I have to leave for the weekend today, will return Sunday afternoon so please bear with any requests for me to answer until then.

I have agreed in principle to do a project from the post that may keep me busy for a while, but I would still listen to requests if you need something and arent in a hurry to have it this flying season. I'll try to be as honest as I can about time required to fulfill what's asked and where it fits into the schedule.

Guys, for an update, I've found out that my best flying pal will offer his services in the arrangement here. He has built several top quality, museum scale, top gun caliber aircraft and he's truly the best builder and finisher I've met. (Don't blush Chuck) I'll try to scam some pics of his planes tonight and post them up because they're not to be missed, simply fantastic. This could aid any requests time wise.

ExtraTorker is going to get one nice Ziroli Bearcat already, and as it's a first come first served basis, I would have to say ask now, as the requests have really been fantastic. So thanks to all, and we'll hope to do well for you with your needs.

Thanx!

Thought I would pass along some pics of some of the latest work. Still room for one more larger project or some smaller ones over the winter build season.

Here's a "special" project that is being worked on at the moment, a setup for my own larger one later on. We didn't like the stars and bars, so they're being removed and stenciled and painted on. Would be a shame to make it not right now.....

FULL UP for this season guys. Thanks so far to all who I've talked with about things and the compliments and interest.

I'll keep the thread up to date with posts and pics and will continue this process for next building season or during next summer, so if you have later projects to consult, that's fine. I know there is likely a lot of planning for things.

Watch for the build threads to follow on the builds. It'll be lots of fun....
