RE: P-6E Curtis hawk (build thread)
I would recommend goign to the for sale section and do a search of the P-6E adds that have expired. Send emails to any of the expired add guys asking if thye have sold their plane. That is what I did and was successful. I had several replies and was able to negiotiate a deal on one.

still can't believe they dropped this plane from production? The building days may be coming back the way arf prices are climbing !

I guess it was a time when the exchange rate was good, and less us not forget..... They are in the business of selling as many planes as possible....
I was surprised to see the hangar 9 p47 thuderbolt 1.50 to be canned as well..???
Only thing I could figure, is that all the little details that this plane entails, is just too time consumming and exspensive..... they just couldn't get the return they wanted off it.....
They make wayyyy more money on the spare parts anyhow!!! heck a rear wing and a fuse, and it is the same price as the whole Plane!!!

Hey folks,
I am in the process of adding a few details and I have a question. Does anyone know what the protrusion is under the lower wing? Is this a fuel tank? Has anyone every tried recreating this on their model?
Thanks,
Brent

It is 50 gallon gas tank. Model Airpane News published a book called "The best of Wylam, Book 2". There are tons of details shown. The gun sight for one, the location of the tail wheel, just tons. If you go back through the thread you can find referances to scale exhaust for 4 stroke engines. Nothing beats the sound and sight of 24 exhaust ports spewing smoke out. If you want more details, Google P6-E.

I think you are refering to the engine coolant radiator. I have seen photos of an external fuel tank to the rear of the cooler but what most people notice is the radiator. I use it on mine to duct air into the engine compartment for cooling.

GaGeeBees,
I have been following this thread almost since it's inception. I am lost as to where this was mentioned. Any idea on the post number(s)?
Thanks,
Brent

I know it was mentioned earlier in this thread but here is the link to the Smithsonian Air & Space technical drawings. http://www.nasm.si.edu/research/arch...tburg_list.cfm I ordered mine and am using them to detail the fuselage including scale location of the tail wheel. Requires a little algebra converting the scale planes to the model but it is fun.

RE: P-6E Curtis hawk (build thread)
I thought some of the hawk fans might enjoy these pictures. This weekend we took our Hawk to Sarasota FL for a warbird meet. There were two more Hawks there, one was not ready to fly but the other joined us for a flight. I have wanted to try some formation flying for a while. My son actually flew our Hawk and Jim McDivitt flew the other in formation. I thought you might enjoy the flight of Hawks, they seemed to be well recieved by the crowd. We were so impressed at the look of them flying by together that Jim and I flipped a coin to see who would have to change their aircraft number from 40 to 41 so we could do more formation flying at local meets. We are hoping to be at the Cape Coral FL meet with at least two hawks for some formation flying. Another gentleman with his Hawk wants to join us for a three hawk formation. He will change his to number 39. Should look pretty cool, all three of them together in flight. I would like to thank Mike Winter for taking some beautiful pictures.

RE: P-6E Curtis hawk (build thread)
I apparently still had the P-6E on my Tower wishlist and I got an email that it was no longer available. Has anyone heard if they stopped making it or??? I have one (I am still building) but was just curious. It would be too bad if parts weren't going to be availble anymore.
Disregard, I looked back in the thread and I see it was discontinued. Too bad.

F.Y.I. you can still get almost all the parts for P-6E through Tower. Some are on back-order.
I've had mine for a while now, and I just love it. It's my favorite. When Tower had them on "limited stock" I went ahead and ordered another one. The next day they were "Discontinued". Every now and then they come up for sale on the Buy & Sell here. Mike

Jack, I've got about 40 flights on mine so far. Started out with a Saito 125 on it. Had bit of a mishap, and dinged it, not bad though. If I would have a little more power I probably could have avoided the mishap. I'm running a Saito 1.80 in it now and it's got plenty of power now. I still get compliments every time I bring it to the field. Mike

RE: P-6E Curtis hawk (build thread)
Well yalll...
I have recieved a OS 1.60 Gemini and I originally was going to place it in a Giant superchipmunk but I may place it in this one./..
I know I am not going to spend 550-800$ for a saito 200Ti..... and I picked up this os 1.60 twin for a song..... It also hase C&H ignition.... which
makes running this engine just a joy!....
The Gentleman I purchased it from was just a wonderfull person who was supper maticuless to say the least.....
Yes I will have to make some cuts in the cowl, but I have some ideas as to how I would make it work well....
GEEbees....."I don't want to hear about it!"
I just think that the chipmunk is too much of a aerobatic plane, and I have my lightened zdz40f3A to go into that one.... and I could add smoke ect....
This plane just begs to be flown slowwwww and scale!.....
I have anouther cowl, if I change my mind that is, after..... I just want to get this bird up..... and flying....

LOL I wasn't gonna say nothin The OS 1.60 twin is a sweet engine. Even better on ignition, you lucky dawg. You'll have plenty of power to do just about anything you want plus the Gemini loves to run slow and just sips fuel at low speeds.
I've got one on an Aeronca C3 "Flying Bathtub" and love putting around at 1/4 throttle or so.

Looks like I am no tthe only one that loves this plane. I have to say, it is my favorite of all the planes I have ever had. I think Great Planes could sell a bunch more if they were to do another production run.
