Corsair with 3 bladed prop
Guys,
On 10/08/05, I took my Great Planes F4U Corsair "Candy" to the Hillsdale, KS. R/C Barnstormers flying field sporting a 12/6 Master Airscrew 3 bladed propeller, (tips painted yellow, of course). She used to have a Master Airscrew 12/6 2 bladed propeller, (looked terrible on her). Candy is powered by a Saito Black & Gold 65 4 stroke engine. I fired up the little powerhouse, taxied on to the runway, turned into the wind and applied power. She lifted off the ground and flew with ease. I put her through a bunch of fighter maneuvers and she did just fine. I took her to a bit of altitude, (couple of hundred feet) and put her through a screaming dive. What a great flying airplane. I think the 3 bladed prop made her perform and look better than ever before. I proceeded on base to final and brought her in for a perfect two wheel landing down center line, set her tail down, then turned and taxied back. I even did the zig, zag taxi maneuver. The yellow tips on the 3 bladed prop really stood out. Several of the other R/C pilots commented on how realistic the 3 bladed propeller looked on the Corsair. I hate to see a two bladed propeller on a Warbird meant for three or four blades. Give it a try.
Good luck.

Sounds like a blast! Any pictures?
I want to eventually build a a 1/5 scale F4U. For the prop I need a 32" 3 bladed prop (full scale was 13' 4") and I would not even know where to begin looking for one. Any ideas?

Try Solo in Canada. www.soloprops.com They have scale looking props with ground adjustable pitch, up to 32 inch diameter.

RE: Corsair with 3 bladed prop
Flak, you're right. Warbirds need more than 2 blades! I've flown my GP .40 Corsair (Magnum .80 4-stroke) with both a 2-bladed APC prop and a 3 bladed prop like yours and it screams and looks great..
Some say that a 3-bladed prop will (1) help reduce the effects of torque and (2) slow the aircraft down more quickly when the throttle is reduced. I can't say one way or the other for the torque issues, but I can tell you that the 3-bladed prop makes for a good air-brake when on final approach.
The attached photo is after I installed the 3-bladed prop and before I painted the required yellow tips.
These are nice flying sport warbirds. But I want a bigger one! Always bigger!

ROGER thanks for posting that address I`m going to display it in CORSAIR buffs thread, this is exactly what I am looking for ,for my,
F4U-5.Even the hub looks pretty darn good..The F4U-5 supposed to have a 4 blade jobbie on it, and the 2 blader ,just looks, sickeningly wrong.[:'(]. There`s a lot of warbirds showing the wrong screw on the front...MAYBE we can change that now..A pic of my front on my unfinished build .and a plastic model of what it SHOULD look like THANKS muchly..... Try here for a good range of props, The 32 inch three blader will run about $175. That is nothing compared to the price of the motor you will need to spin a prop that big, and the fact that you will have a hard time fitting one in a 10 inch cowl which is the size of a 1/5th corsair cowl. The new 3W-157xiB2-F should turn it at 12 inch wide and 9 pounds. My 1/5th has a g-62 which is plenty of power and flies with a 20x12. Not scale but just a good flying prop. by the way , a 12 inch three blade prop is scale for a 36 inch wingspan corsair.
Good Luck

RWright142,
I forgot to take my camera last time. I'll take it and try to get some good video next time to post here. Weather permitting, I'm going to drag a bunch of my planes out and photo them for your viewing pleasure sometime this week. Check my gallery for what's there now; real stuff, but cool to view. I don't own the B-25, but I do own the M3A1 Scout Car.
I wish Master Airscrew would make some bigger props. I prefer carbon fiber to wood. Carbon fiber lasts much longer. I have several 1/5th scale Warbirds that I will not be able to tolerate putting a 2 bladed prop on. YUK! Do you hear me Master Airscrew?!
