According to this site:www.ae.uiuc.edu/m-selig/ads/aircraft.html it's the Goettengen 418, but he's got a question mark after it, so it might not be absolutely correct.

Men, I have a question here, are the Balsa USA worth the money? I fly war birds and Bipes[Dreamer and CG Ultimate 10-300].Ive been thinking about a WW1 bird and was wondering if the Balsa USA are a little pricey.Tom ps the white bipe is a Sperry messenger that I built in 1970?

Hi Tom,
I have that same Ultimate!! Love that thing.
In answer to your question, it would be a resounding "YES". They are pretty easy to build, but you can add amazing detail if you like. I have thier 1/4 scale pup, 1/4 scale Fokker DVII, 80" Fokker Eindecker and thier 1/4 scale Fokker DVIII. Several friends have thier Fokker DR1 (two guys) Fokker DVIII (two other guys) Another Fokker DVII around here, a Nieuport 28 and a couple more Sopwith Pups are also floating around these parts. There are issues (IMHO) with the Fokker DVIII but all of the others are awesome planes to fly. The price is kind of steep, I usually pick mine up from others that are selling thiers for one reason or another or buy them from the vendors at airshows etc. I really would recommend Balsa USA to you though. If you have any questions about any of the planes mentioned above I can forward them to the guys that fly them. Hope this helps.

A few people have asked me for an update so here it is. With spring here (sorta) I pulled the DVII out of storage and fired it up. Last Friday I took a flight and had a great time, its an easy flyer and sounds great. Today the weather wasnt so good to go to the field to fly but I thought I would post a video of how this thing sounds. Here is a picture of the DVII and the Sopwith Pup that I also built this winter.

Hello Prop Nut
Nice looking D VII.
Here are some pictures from my D VII with a Laser 180.At the maiden flight he will crash into a tree, but nothing happened.
Only one wingstrut was broken. After the second flight I changed the engine to an Saito 220.
This engine must now break-in before i will do the next flight.
greetings
Klaus

Tom, RCU is having a problem with two of its four servers. this is a qoute "update...the 2 servers STILL are not fixed for image uploads. we had 2 developers look at this including the original developer of this software and they worked on this all day with me and will resume tomorrow and hopefully track it down. gotta love computers...thanks for your patience. "
I will try again;
Great looking DVII Nic, I have seen your other posts on your planes, you are really into WWI. Its an adiction yes?
Our warbird flyin event is still June 24th. In Greenville Michigan behind the Moose Lodge on HWY 91 just north of Greenville. If you can find your way to Greenville you can't miss finding the lodge. Primitive RV camping availible. I will also be at Balsa USA's Event on June 8th.

A flight video, you can really hear the sound of the engine. It purrs. The video is pretty poor but we didnt go out to make one, it was spur of the moment.

GoFlying, Mine is a bit underpowered, the Quadra 50 must move it like a rocket. I wanted something that flew scale, and I built it as light as possible so a less powerful motor does fine.
Bring yours over to Warbirds Over Michigan in Grand Ledge, we can get a flight of DVII's in the air Dont forget the 109's either.
Do you have any pictures of your DVII?

Here are a couple more videos. One of the Fokker DVII, the other my of 1/4 scale Sopwith Pup. I built both of these this winter, so I am having a ball this spring with the new planes.

Hi guys, I just got the Balsa USA Fokker D-VII kit. I thought it would be a great winter project. I have a Zenoha 38, that will fit inside the cowl, my question is. Is this too much engine? Also is there a web site that has several color schemes of the era. I am sure I will have more questions as I build the plane. I do have a lot of building expenience but why worry over a building process when one of you have already solved the problem.
Thanks

Thanks Prop Nut, I did locate the site. I read all the pages of comments (36) very impressed. I can't wait to start building the kit. I have a BUSA 1/4 scale Cub on the building board now. I only have 1 wing left to build then the detail work and covering. I hope to start the D-VII by Feb.
Thanks

hey prop nut, how long does it take to build the 1/4 sopwith pup? Is it hard to build? Is it hard to fly? I live kinda close to you, I live in lowell, MI and fly in alto, MI at the kent radio aeromodlers place.

The Pup builds very fast, and easy. I did mine in 6 weeks of 3-4 evenings a week. I am not a meticulous builder though. Take your time and be picky and you will have a show winner. We are having our summer fun-fly this Saturday at 10am. Our field is right behind the moose lodge on M91 north of Greenville (East side of the road) You are welcome to attend. I will not be there but there should be a couple other Pups there, both better built than mine. One of our members lives in Lowell.
