Zirolli Skyraider and Magnum 400 Radial
just wanted to post some pics of my Zirolli Skyraider with the Magnum 400 radial engine. The fun part of the construction is the finishiing wich Iwill be getting to real soon. I am hoping that the magnum will be enuff to get her into the air safely...we will see. Just iincase, I have a G62 on standby. The Skyraider has functional exhaust, nav lites and a sliding canopy. That magnum just fits in their snug....I had to try it.

Mugen, thanks for the encouragement and that goes for you to Kmot. Actually you are helping alot with your input on the 400. I to want to prove the 400 can fly warbirds other than the Aeroworks PT-17. The scheme I am using has come down to 3 choices and here are the pics.TT778 Bubbles n Bust , sock it to em and or TT014. I will try and get some video of the engine running and the 1st flight. Kmot already has video of the engine running posted here on RCU

You may want to consider Baffling the cowl so the air just flows over the heads of the engine. You have all that open area on teh front and little exit. I have a Saito 170-R and had a very open cowl. It statredto get a little warm and I lost a about 400RPM by the time I landed and I was flying on a 60 degree day..

By the looks of your pics, you simply do not have time to finish this plane. Bare studs, at least 2 unfinished airframes, simply not acceptable. I will bite the bullet and take this hindrance off your hands. PM me with shipping details.

Ty, thanks for that advice. I will look at making some type of baffle for the plane. I will need every rpm this engine can muster. Reincarnate....I amembarrassed by the # of planes I have unfinished in my basement. Istarted out last yr withover 30....down to around 20 and tryng to sell more. This is not a hobby but a sickness.

Ram-Bo,
I'm looking for a radial engine for my Beechcraft Staggerwing Bipe...The cowl would accept about a 9" dia. engine......the plane will weigh about 19#.. Could you give me some insight on availability, weight, cost, displacement, and possible power output. thanks

The cowl on the Z Skyraider is right at 9". The magnum as you see fits comfortably snug. we figured out that the power range is just under that of a G62 which is what the Skyraider calls for for power. I got my magnum off of Ebay foor about $650.00. The guy I got it from keeps listing them when he gets them in so they are still out there forsale. If you want more info on this motor there is a thread oin the motor sections under radial engines here on rcu. Hope this helps
