RE: Ziroli F6F Hellcat Builder's Diary
Yesterday my old Ziroli F6F is coming back in my work shop. Friend who bought Hellcat from me two years ago, finally come to start engine and made last checks...
Evolution wasn't fired up for more than two years, and we need some time to start it. But, when it start it work great...
Hellcat still look sharp...
We checked CG...
...and lights...
Dule made last adjustments on ailerons...
... wipe model...
... so Hellcat is now ready for airfield...
But before that we made few pictures of two ours Ziroli F6F...
And finally check out this "model collage"...
From the left - Meister Scale P 47 wing, next - Ziroli P 38, on the shelf - Meister Scale Focke Wulf, tail is from Meister Scale Zero, and on the table Ziroli Hellcat...
Regards
Mirce

RE: Ziroli F6F Hellcat Builder's Diary
Thank you guys...
Antonio, my friend who paint models for me use RAL tone card, so I find on Internet FS colors which code is in RAL system.
We paint my first Ziroli F6F (those with shark mouth) in FS tone, but I dislike dark blue and color in the middle. Dark blue was like NAVY blue, and middle color was to light. OK, maybe that colors was like that on original airplanes, but I don't like them...
So, we take picture of Hellcat and find codes of colors we think be closest. Unfortunately, I don't know now which code was that...
Dark blue need to be like plum, and middle tone is more gray than blue...
I will ask my friend if he have somewhere codes of colors we used on Hellcat...
Hope that will help...
All the best from Serbia

Little up date of this F6F topic...
Spring finally come, temperature is around 20 degree Celsius, so I made yesterday my first flight with Hellcat in this season.
Before flying, few days ago my friends and me, made little action on our airfield...
Now is everything ready for new season...
But as always before new season, I need to check my model, batteries, wires, clunk in the gas tank...
Everything was OK, I start engine for few times in my back yard, Zenoah GT 80 work great, so yesterday afternoon I finally was on airfield with model...
At the end, happy pilot and his machine...
Regards from Novi Sad, Serbia...

In my F6F is Zenoah GT 80. I need to cut two small holes for spark plug caps. To cower that holes I used small plastic spoon...
Engine is in 3/9 position...
GT 80 in combination with Xoar 23 x 8 is more than enough for this model. Weight of my Hellcat is 19,5 kg...
I try F6F with carbon propeller Mejzlik 23 x 10, but it's little "heavy", so I put back Xoar...

Hi guys- I just ordered a Ziroli F6F with glass fuse and foam wings and tail - I am trying to see anyone who has done a foam/glass combo on any of thiere birds online - I am hoping it will be lighter -
I got the wood wing as well but was thinking foam might be easier/faster - maybe ill build both wood and foam and see which is lighter
Anyone else done this combo before - im going to put a da 100 plus and understand cowl blisters will be needed
I am trying te keep it light ....hahahaha if possible
anyone who knows more about this or has links to more info chime in
I have a old 3w 140 but i don't think i can cram it in the cowl but I am going to look at possibly 6/12 configuration it it fits ill do it - i want the fastest Z hellcat ever

I am going with the DA120 or DLE 111 - i bet with thrust angle a small blister on on side and I may have to get creative on the other side but thats ok - It should really scoot with that-
I don't always fly warbrids .......but when I do they must be fast
I am choosing for both a bearcat and a hellcat - here is a compilation of data relating to choosing an engines and cowl for both
mvvs 116 - 300 mm plug to plug
DA-100 - 290 mm cap to cap
DA-120 - 302 mm cap to cap
DLE-111 - 284 mm cap to cap
FPE 105 - 288 mm plug to plug
new 3w 110ib2- 304 mm
old 3w 120 - 342 mm
old 3w 140 - 330 mm
GT-80 - 257 mm cap to cap
11.5 " = 292.1 mm
12 " = 304.8 mm
13 " = 330.2 mm
Ziroli Hellcat Demension
Cowl length: 10 1/4"
Cowl height front: 11 1/2"
Cowl height rear: 14"
Cowl width front: 10" 254 mm
Cowl width rear: 12" 304.8 mm
Ziroli Bearcat Demensions
Cowl length: 9 3/4"
Cowl height front: 10 1/2"
Cowl height rear: 12 1/4"
Cowl width front: 10 1/2" 266.7 mm
Cowl width rear: 12" 304.8 mm

Hey fella's finally purchased the retracts for the Z Hellcat. I started on this project 3 years ago then had to store it due to a job lay off, but that is all history now.

Thanks old man for the video. Care to share your thoughts on the new gear? They well may be the pair I choose for my 1/5 Jerry Bates build. I think a BME 116 might just squeeze in at 10.50 inches. Right now I have a GT40 converted to EI and inserts for CM-6 plugs. Probably enough power and enough weight that very little or no weight added for balance.
Thanks Richard

Richard, so far so good on the gear. I really like them and the fact i don't have to deal with all the air lines and connectors is a big bonus. I think you probably meant a GT80, that is what i am planning on using too, i just converted mine to EI as well. I tried some larger engines in the 100cc+ range but they have to be canted to fit in the cowl.

That's good to learn. Having a rats nest of plumbing and chasing down leaks would not be my idea of fun. Ah yes I meant GT80...Got it half right though ;-) . As an aside, I used to skydive in Seymour Indiana in the 1960's IIRC they were making the movie Goldfinger there at that time too.
Thanks, Richard

I remember it well...Whenever you happened to land on the concrete runway it sure would jar your teeth. Once made a jump from 21,500 feet there. I was looking at your B-25 sure was a nice looking aircraft. Too bad about the mid-air.
On my Bates F6F, I would like to make it with a three piece wing..It would be nice to have the breaks at the wing fold points...Any thoughts on that?
Thanks, Richard

Richard, the mid air was a heart breaker, that is for sure, i really liked the B-25, someday i will do another one. As far as the three piece wing goes, i would stick with one piece if you can. I almost with to a one piece with on the Ziroli but is just too much to go one piece.
You fella's that have built the Ziroli, the plans are not very clear how the landing gear blocks are to be mounted. Do they go perpendicular to the WS-1 brace and cut shown about where the tape is?

Here are few pictures...

Sorry language is not English, but maybe some pictures can give idea abut landing gear install. I change wheels, and put 5,5" instead 6" wheels. That help a lot...
