jojo....check post #283 I have posted pics..of the flaps and the 3 piece wing...you can see the bolt holes drilled through the top of the wing , through the wing tubes and into a T-nut mounted under the bottom skin...I removed some wing skin at the top and bottom of the wings and inserted and epoxied hard wood blocks above and below the aluminum wing tube for strength. like I said over 200 flights no problem....

Looks good did you epoxy or bolt the tube in the center section? I think I will go with one piece wing I have a trailer so space is not a problem.Did you have to drill out the holes for the alum. dowels so they would fit?

I have a question about CG. Is it inverted or upright. Also did you all cg from wing tip or spot clostest to fuslage.
I did mine inverted (I think that's easier on a low wing aircraft) and close to the fuselage. If I remember right they give you a measurement from the leading edage of the wing and another from the leading edge of the wheel wells.

This plane has a short nose so you want to keep the tail as light as possible.

I epoxied the tube in the center section... the tubes on my kit fit perfectly..don't know why everyone is having so much trouble with those tubes..you would think the manufacturer would check them.

received my retracts today from sierra giants. The Retract appears well put together. Was able to cycle them about 50 time and they are working excellent. I will be installing them in the AT-6 2morrow

I've been looking at this plane and I see there are three versions available. Silver, silver black & green, and silver red & yellow. They all have a glass fuse but the silver black & green one says that the wings & tail group is "Monocote-like covered" while the other two say " Wing panel, elevator & tail plane are painted over high-quality balsa wood". Is there a difference in these planes or is it just a type O. Is the outer section of the wings detachable are is this a one piece wing design? Looks like Sierra makes a set of retracts for this plane for $260.00 that drop in. Are these retracts the preferred ones to have and do you get the air tank, lines, valves, etc. when you buy the retracts? Any on the market any better?

Zippi the Sierra retract is a drop in fit for this plane. Are for the retracts itself, there appear well built. For 260.00 you just the retract alone. If you want the air tank, lines and valve that is an extra 80 bucks. I ordered the robarts retract starter kit from Tower Hobbies for 30.00 bucks

For the ones using the 26 sized engines. How overpowered is the plane? What are your thoughts on using a G38?

I just put the Sierra retracts in and they will not work. They will go up but not down,it seems they are locking in the up position and the only way to move them is to pri them out of the lock groove.I put some grease on the rails but once you retract them they are locked.........I don't know. I'll call them tom.

telejojo,

Did you install the gear door covers? I had to trim mine a little before my Sierra gear would go down all the way.

For the ones using the 26 sized engines. How overpowered is the plane? What are your thoughts on using a G38?
The 26 seems the perfect balance of size and power. It fits very nicely inside the cowl and has plenty of power. I don't think I would say that it is overpowered. The G38 would probably do OK in this plane. The weight is about right that you probably would not need to add any nose weight. My only concern would be if you want it to fit inside the cowl as much as possible it could be a challenge. Look through some of the earlier posts on this thread and you'll see that several guys used some pretty big motors in this plane successfully. The other thing about the G26 is that there is still enough room in the cowl for good cooling airflow.

Sorry for the delay Speedpro, see the image attached. I used these throws that came with the amendment. My normal flying is a flight mode with these settings and just a little more elevator throw. I did not use aileron differential and stuck with the higher setting. With such a short fuselage compared with the wingspan, it does not require a lot of rudder and you might want to stay at or under what they show here. When flying, any rudder corrections are very pronounced.

grs34...the g26..IS MORE THAN ENOUGH POWER..... the g38 is not only too much power but you are going to add way too much weight mine weighs 17 lbs and even that is too heavy for this plane.....but it does handle the 17 lbs ok but landing speeds have to be kept up all the way to touch down...

thanks, mine did not come with this amendment sheet . good point about the rudder ill watch that setting . im going to try the module under the cowl with cooling air flow to reduce or eliminate the need for added weight

I did not get this amendment sheet with my AT-6. Dave, is that the correct cg on the amendment sheet[145 mm to 170 mm]. The instruction I received with my AT-6 is 117mm to 125mm

I did'nt use the covers and I fixed the gear by dremeling some of the shoulder off the rails so they would not lock up so hard.I will probably have a test flight this week.It looks good for the money and balanced good with the OS 160.

i think the 117 to125 is taken from front of wing and the 145 to 170 is taken from front of wheel opening next to fuse

RCPILOT78- I'm putting in a smoke system as well. Is the 26 still going to have plenty of power?

Default RE: CMP 160 sized Texan

thanks SpeedPro that sounds more correct. Mine is ready to go, just waiting on my gas tank a buddy has. My power setup is a TGY 52CC swing a 20x10 prop. Most of the motor fits in the cowl but I did have to do a little cutting for the spark plug wire, muffler pipes, and carb. The TGY 52 was 4 oz heaver than the G26. My balance was right on point with the Sierra retracts and both batteries place right behind the firewall. Total weight is 15 lbs and 5 oz, so I am very happy with that outcome. I ran the motor a few time and it lifted the AT-6 wings up at 1/2 throttle. Hope to get my tank before Friday so I can get this bird in the air this weekend for the maiden fight.
